It was also the same when Wiley got into the game against Washington. It seemed they were trying to force the ball inside and it messed up the offensive rhythm. I didn't watch last night, but hopefully that will get better as Wiley plays more games as we will need an inside force to compete with the big boys.

They still look to shoot the 3 too quickly...but it's hard to fault them for that since so many of them are pretty good at it and I like their tendency to look for the extra pass.
I like that they didn't start the game in a scoring slump, rendering the rope-a-dope unnecessary, and love that the defense is smothering. I admire a team full of shooters that so obviously loves playing defense as well. Having one or two of those guys is a luxury. Having a starting roster full of them is a goddamned embarrassment of riches.
Horace Spencer is the most improved player on this team. From his first minute to helping seal this win, the guy has steadily gotten better. Really happy for that guy and hope that his last season is memorable.
Jared Fucking Harper: sharp shooter, assist machine, supersonic speed freak and DUNK MONSTER. That fucking guy has balls the size of monster truck tires. He's a harassing defender while at the same time flashing down the court to put 2 on your face. Give him Bryce Brown and the outside is deadly.

UNCA took 80% of their possessions down to the final seconds of the play clock, sometimes not getting a shot off. They slowed things down as much as they could. Combine that with some poor shot selection by AU in the first half and you got a low scoring affair.
The offense was spotty and I think it's because they knew they were so much more talented than UNCA that they were trying all sorts of schoolyard plays. They'll need to be more disciplined against Dayton...and the rest of the schedule.

I know it sounds crazy complaining about anything concerning AU basketball when we're 9-1 and top 10. But, I'm still less than impressed with the offense we run. It basically comes down to the first open 3, by the first open man, regardless of who it is. The only other option is Harper or Brown driving the lane to shoot or dish it. Harper was the only guy on his game Saturday and he saved our ass.

Again no panic but something is wrong and generally a good way to get back on track is with some good old fashioned gritty defense. Might take a few ugly-assed games to find it but what else can you do?

They average taking 31 three pointers a game. I understand that's their forte but with Spencer, Purifoy, Okeke, McLemore and Wiley ranging from 6'7" to 6'11", you have to establish some inside presence. The breakout (this season) star of the game, though, was Anfernee McLemore. The kid is back and he has shaken the gremlins that accompany recovery from an injury as gruesome as his. - today is zion vs Taco Bell Kajibuto fall or whatever his name is. Guy is a foot taller than Zion (7’7) and swears he won’t let him dunk. Ucf is also coached by Johnny Dawkins who played at duke with jay bilas when Jordan and Kenny smith were at unc. Just an interesting game all around.
- unc plays a team we creamed back in dec. we get the winner in kc next week so here’s hoping the huskies find some magic today. I personally believe unc is the best all round team in cbb. I know our tiggers aint skerrd of no goats but still....would rather have Washington.
- the tenn women got an 11 seed. Never thought id see that day. The tenn women also got bounced in the first round. Badly. This seemed unimaginable only a decade ago. I think summit was an even better coach than any of us realized.

My sister was able to go to the game and after the heartbreak of ours stayed for the TT vs MSU game (GUNS UP!) When she got back to the team hotel who do you think was hanging around in the lobby thanking all of our family that made the trip? That's right, coach Pearl.
