Since Wench done r-u-n-d-o-f-f-t, someone has to start one.
My O's won a game Monday, and yesterday. They win today and we have what you call a streak!
I still see it as a Rangers and Cards series. They are just too dominant. Although the Bravos of Hotlanta and the cub bears of Chicago should give the Cards fits this season. Rangers.....well, no on in the American league is even gonna get close. Should have 120 wins by the seasons end.
-
Well, I'm looking forward to the season. The Cubs have made some nice moves in the offseason.
-
Rangers have already blown two leads and I think their bullpen has given up eleventy billion runs.

Just a temporary problem. They will start kicking ass before you know it.

Maybe, but of what I have watched they aren't making plays that they should be, and (wos) or at least what I hear is the Spring training was more of a screw off, play time.
But it is early.
-
I'm expecting a Cards/Red Sox series. They are both just too deep.
Don't count out the Bravos though, now that Frenchy is back.

The Bravos are the dark horse, sleepers of the National League for sure.

Your pathetic reverse baseball karma gods smack will have no effect on the Braves this year. 105-110 losses guaranteed. They're by far the worst team in MLB. The 2nd place hitter is Ender Inciarte. That's right...Inciarte. Just try and pronounce it. Go ahead. Their "closer" is 58 years old. Their catcher is 158 years old. Their centerpiece first baseman, which is the only non-pitcher they decided to keep and build around, is in his 7th season. He's a career .284 hitter averaging 17 HR's and 70 RBI's. He's average.
Their #1 starting pitcher is 40-30 for his career. He's okay. Their #2 starter was 3-11 last year with a 6.72 ERA. Starting to get the picture? In all the years I've been following this sport, I've never seen a franchise tear it down all the way to the ground like this. Maybe the Marlins years ago?

Understood. You will be happy with nothing less than the NLCS.

You know, in years past, I'd be downplaying it and taking the reverse karma with a grain of salt, secretly thinking this team could get on a run, add a piece here and there, get to the playoffs.
I invite...no...I insist that you pull up the roster for the 2016 Bravos and then decide whether you should waste the keystrokes on similar nonsense to what you posted above. This year, your musings have no effect on me whatsoever. I am a downtrodden and beaten man. Just wait til 2017...2018...2019???

Funny how Wench has "r-u-n-d-o-f-f-t" and her Disastros are relevant and started the season with the reigning Cy Young winner on the mound.

Pretty sure she is really busy with life, job and all that stuff.
I keed about the Braves. I imagine they unloaded everything and will waste seasons and then spend bank to open up the new stadium with a kickass roster.

Doesn't work. Ask Jerry Jones. (yes, I know Jerry is the problem)

It looks like that's the plan. In recent years, teams like the Cubs, Mets, Stros and even Giants to a certain extent, have torn it down and built around their young prospects. A little easier to do when you have a fire balling staff like the Mets and studs like Rizzo and Bryant for the Cubs. I keep hearing that the Braves farm system is suddenly loaded, but I don't see any help for the immediate future, meaning the next 2-3 years.
-
You'd be surprised at how soon they can turn it around though. I remember going to Fulton County Stadium in around 1991 and seeing tens of die hard fans there just painfully wishing for better days. Then 1992 happened.

Braves/Cards begin series tonight to determine who will be last in the NL this year.
Through 3 games, we have struck out 14, 12, and 10 times.
45% of our outs are by Strikeout. Is that bad?

Not if you're a pitcher.

Meanwhile, the Cubs continue to crush everything. 14 runs on 14 hits last night. Starting left fielder, Kyle Schwarber, had a scary collision with the center fielder going after fly ball. May be out for a while with a bum ankle and maybe a knee problem.
-
The Braves are an afterthought here in the ATL.
Erybody waiting on the new digs!
Best pizzaburger around I hear!

Kyle Scwarber out for the season. Fuck!

Hey, SkozlozhopP is still hanging around. Since he seems like he'll be here for the long haul, I PM'd him my card info for a 6 month supply. Damn, half a year of Bob-like boners. I can't wait for that generous swelling of pride.
-
And the Braves move to completely punchless 0-4 with a 12-2 beatdown at the hands of the Cards. This team could set some records, folks.
-
Dear Dave Roberts,
What a bone head move.
VR,
AUT1
Meant to post this earlier, but damn. You don't pull a guy with one out in the 8th when he is throwing a no-no. You deserved to lose that game but Stripling didn't deserve to get yanked.

Cubs Pitcher Arietta hits a HR. :haha:

Dallas. She hates him.
But wait, she is my friend on the bookface. (or was?)

Can the Braves go 0-162?
They have a chance.

Just setting them up!
Sad part is, Freddie will get fired because he couldn't make chicken salad out of chicken shit!
Not that I like him or thought he was a good hire, but damn, he got dealt a raw deal.

I'm with you to an extent. Freddie talks a good game but he's been the collapse king even when they had a full compliment of talent. I really don't think Freddie is the right guy going forward.

Not to pour salt on this thing, but y'all know that basket the Braves leadership put all their eggs in? Looks like it just busted.

Right.
He should be canned. But nothing to do with 0-8 or anything this year. Honestly should have been gone 18 months ago. But I'm almost thinking he was kept around on purpose to be the scapegoat for this seeing as how they were going to probably fire him anyway.

BRAVES WIN. BRAVES WIN!!!!!
Okay, so it's official. 1-161 is the worst they can do.

In addition to free admission, Ferguson residents will be provided a concession stand they can loot during the 7th inning stretch.

Don't forget, fans, that next week in Chicago it's Die Hard night. Free admission to anyone who was alive the last time the Cubs played in the World Series.

Fire Freddie G.
Are MLB managers scared of pissing off their own players? Or have they just become too lazy to apply Baseball Strategy 101 to their decisions? This used to frustrate me to no end with Bobby Cox and I watched it again last night with Freddie Gonzales. It's the bottom of the 8th. Score tied at 3. First batter is AJ Prierzimininski who strokes a single to right. What do you do? Hey, they're putting in a much faster pinch runner. Sweet. Kelly Johnson coming to the plate. Surely he's going to square around and bunt. Let's see if he can lay this one down the first base line and move the go ahead run into scoring position.
I won't go on with this. Obviously, he never went up there with the intent to move the runner into scoring position. He swung away from the start and flew weakly out to center, as did the next two Braves. Is bunting just no longer part of the game? In that situation, laying down a bunt is the ONLY option. There's no thinking about it. No other strategy.

The Cubs are clearly the best team in baseball. They should win that division by 12-15 games and cruise into the World Series. May set a record for wins.

And while we are at it, can we change the name of the Cy Young Award to The Jake Arrieta Award? May he have a long career, free of Tommy John Surgery, and ACL injuries.

McCutchen...hit 3 hrs last night in 4 ABs. it has taken the Braves 364 ABs to do the same.
57 players ...yes players not teams have hit more home runs than the entire Braves roster combined for the season.
America's team.

So the hell what! The Bravos are manufacturing runs and losing games the old fashioned way!
-
Just an observation on the Braves. Yes, they suck. No doubting that. They gutted the team from the top down and they're taking their lumps and getting what they deserve. Took down the Mets tonight in NY 3-0 with Matt Wisler pitching a 1 hit shut out. Correction, bullpen pitched the 9th. The only positive is that we're actually starting to see some of the young talent get some real playing time and getting some positive results. Like lead off hitter, Mallex Smith. Fast as hell. Great in the outfield and had 2 hits, including a HR off Matt Harvey. Anywayz, with a 7-19 record, there's not much to take solace in....except...
They swept the Marlins on the road earlier. Big deal? Nope! Except when you think about the rest of the schedule to this point. The Braves have started the season against the best of the best in the NL. For the NL, it's been murderer's row. Washington Nats (18-7 and 1st place), Chicago Cubs (20-6 and 1st place), Boston Red Sox (15-10 and 1st place), NY Mets (16-9 2nd place and last year's World Series) L.A. Dodgers (13-13 tied for 1st place), St. Louis Cards (13-13), Florida Marlins (12-12). The NL elite so far and not one team with a losing record.
Don't know what they'll do. Pretty sure they're destined to lose 100+ games. Should with that line up. But I'm a sucker. I'm still watching and trying to find some positives.
Edit...yes, Boston is in the AL.

The inevitable World Series Champion Cubs, have a pitcher doing some fairly remarkable things. Maybe you've heard of him...Jake Areola. Right now, the best pitcher on CLEARLY the best team in baseball (You know, the team that's going to win the WS)is 6-0 with an ERA of 0.84. The one stat that I heard today on Mike & Mike is in his last 26 starts, he has more no-hitters (2) than losses (1). And that loss happened because Cole Hamels threw his own no-hitter against the Cubs that day.
I think you can already pencil him in as the World Series Day 1 starter. It will be good to see him pitch that ONE game in the World Series since the Cubbies are going to take the series 4-0.

The rest of St Louis would kill me to say this, but he's entering in Gibby 1968 territory.

It's gotta be the PEDs that Stephen A. Smith has been providing.
-
The rest of St Louis would kill me to say this, but he's entering in Gibby 1968 territory.
That was mentioned too on Mike & Mike. The difference in Gibson and Arrietta is if you got a hit off BG, you could be pretty sure on your next at bat, you were getting one about 95 in the ear hole. Mean sumbitch on the bump.
-
Speaking of "Hoot", here's a quote from Dusty Baker. (wiki's so he said it for real)
"(Hank Aaron told me) 'Don't dig in against Bob Gibson, he'll knock you down. He'd knock down his own grandmother if she dared to challenge him. Don't stare at him, don't smile at him, don't talk to him. He doesn't like it. If you happen to hit a home run, don't run too slow, don't run too fast. If you happen to want to celebrate, get in the tunnel first. And if he hits you, don't charge the mound, because he's a Gold Glove boxer.' I'm like, 'Damn, what about my 17-game hitting streak?' That was the night it ended."
-
The rest of St Louis would kill me to say this, but he's entering in Gibby 1968 territory.
Or in the juiced ball era, Maddux
No not because he was a brave but what he did on the mound at a time when people were blasting the ball is amazing.
Agree that Gibson year could be best all time.

That's one of my favorite Gibson stories.
Also, when McCarver would come out to the mound, Gibson would turn to him and say "What are you doing out here, the only thing you know about my pitching is that you can't hit it." And then McCarver would go back to the plate.
-
Or in the juiced ball era, Maddux
Not a Braves fan, but anytime he was pitching, I would watch. Proved that you don't have to be a 95 mph fastball thrower to have success. It's location, location, location, and he could locate with the greatest.

Agree that Gibson year could be best all time.
In 1968, Gibson threw over 304 innings! Not only that, but in those 304 innings pitched, he allowed 38 Earned Runs. his translates into a 1.12 ERA. He pitched 13 shut outs as well as tallying 28 complete games. He led the league with 268K’s and an unheard of 0.85 WHIP. It may have been lower save the Intentional Base on Balls (6) and the hit batsmen… which were most likely intentional as well.
Not only did he lead his team to a World Series berth in 1968, he was the MVP, Cy Young award winner and topped it off with a gold glove. A true dominant performance in every sense of the word.

Sad part is I think this was by design. Although he isn't a great mgr, no mgr would have done much better with the hand he's been dealt. But again, I think that was the plan. Tank the team, rebuild it and as a side, they'll be bad enough to warrant firing Freddie who I think they regretted hiring after a year or two in.

Agree with this. You can't gut the entire team and start over with basically a AAA squad and hold the manager accountable. Also agree I don't think much of him as a manager but at least let him ride this disaster out. What good does replacing him do?

On the lighter side, Mr. Bautista got beyotch slapped the other day. I did not see the whole thing that led up to this, but from what I've heard from the talking heads, Bautista got plunked...began running his mouth when he got to first...and as you'll see on the "slide" into second base, tried to take out Odor.
Now, I'm old school when it comes to the biesbols. The hard slide into second to upend the fielder is just part of the game. But, the rules have been changed to the point that it's a no-no. And to be fair, Bautista didn't really even start his slide until he got to the base. And from listening to Buster Olney this morning, Bautista is not a very well liked individual among MLB players anyway so he guessed Odor got many a congratulatory text from around the league.

Bautista got on first because he was hit by a pitch. The he slid into second and then he got bitched.
Seriously, it took them 10 minutes to get both teams back to the dugouts. Hell, even the managers were about to go at it. This has been brewing since last years post season.

It took them long enough. But truthfully, this is on management, not coaching. (not that he was that great)

Another baseball fight. Between Royals and Os. All of these talking heads can say what they want....you throw at me twice hitting me in ribs/back area with 100mph fastball after you shook off the fucking curve ball, if I'm about to charge the mound you better be ready for a fucking fight.
With that said, 100mph in the back and I'm in the dirt.

Machado is a little bitch. Plus he plays for that shit city of Baltimore. That city showed its true colors last year. Whole place can burn. So can machismo with getting his feelings hurt. And his manager. Babe Ruth and the others must be laughing from the grave at the butt hurt girls these guys have turned into.
-
This little blurb from an ESPN article on the dust up. Ventura Beaned Machismo last year and brushed him back twice in his first at-bat in this game. Manny jawed at him after that so you knew this was coming. Two Latin hot-heads.
For Ventura, this marked his third career ejection. In addition, he was suspended seven games last season after an angry exchange with the Chicago White Sox's Adam Eaton led to a brawl between the teams.
Yost was asked whether Tuesday night's fifth-inning pitch, if it wasn't an accident, was a sign of immaturity.
"How can I answer that question, too?" Yost said. "I'm not going to answer that question. I mean, you're telling me if it wasn't a slip, you want me to make an answer. I'm not going to answer that."
The ejection was Machado's fourth of his career. Despite the pre-at-bat warning, Showalter said he was not disappointed by Machado's reaction to being hit. Neither were his teammates.

Great night at the ballpark, even though it was as hot as balls that evening. I'll add pics later when I can get them off my phone.
Busch Stadium is first class, and the fans I met around me were knowledgeable and nice. Got a bobblehead, so at least I can see what it looks like when you win a World Series. At points though, we were more interested in the live stream of the ladies' softball game against the bulldawgettes. Followed that up with 4 days of building in West/Central Illinois.

I was so pissed the Braves did what they did in the off season. This was a complete gutting of a franchise. But there's some part of me that thinks there's a method to the madness. They knew enough about what they were doing to put a relatively competitive team on the field. Not expecting much. Not even .500 ball. But a product that said after what....60 games?...that I can see what they're trying to do.
Fuck me. This team is 18-42. They change line ups drastically every 3 games. They do shit that nobody does. They walked 3 in a row last night to lose, including walking in the winning run. They were down 3-1 tonight...bottom of the 9th...got the bases loaded with no outs...strike out, double play...game over. Holy fuck, this team is shit....with a capital SHIT!!!
18-42. Who does that? And yet............I've watched more Braves baseball this year to this point than I have the last 2-3 years combined. I'm not a glutton for punishment. I just keep hoping to see some guys that 2 years from now will be some of the same guys the Astros and Mets and Royals and other teams that have gutted and built with. And the truth is, I've seen several like Mallex Smith, Inciarte, Beckham, Wisler, Fontenevixchivixchew, Flowers etc. But they seem to change the line up daily and 3 out of 4 nights, it's the same shit as tonight..and last night.
I hope these fuckers have a plan because so far, this has been an abortion of epic proportions.

I can't watch!
-
And the truth is, I've seen several like:
Mallex Smith - will be traded for a 37-year old closer
Inciarte - will not match his free agent offer of $8 and a bucket of fried chicken and will sign with the Cubs
Beckham - benched after a member of the 2004 Red Sox is signed out of retirement.
Wisler - sent to the A's for a load of paving blocks and a player to be named later
Fontenevixchivixchew - moved to the minors to make room for a catcher with two bum knees
Flowers - traded for Dan Uggla.
But they seem to change the line up daily and 3 out of 4 nights, it's the same shit as tonight..and last night.

Break up the Braves. I was wrong in my earlier rant. They weren't 18-42. They were 18-46. Now, suddenly they're 24-46 with 4 of the 6 straight wins coming on the road.
Like I said, for some strange reason, I'm watching more of the Braves now than in the last 2 seasons combined. But it seems a little easier because there's zero on the line, like all those years I watched them growing up. This season is all about who is going to step up and be somebody the club can build around. Again, like the Cubs, Mets, Royals, Astros etc. have been doing in recent years.
They're going to continue to suck. Probably be 30 games or more under .500 by season's end. It is what it is. But we're starting to see some guys that could/should be kicking ass the next 2-3 years.
-
The Cubs are teh suck.
-
The Cubs are teh suck.
This is good for you guys. You don't want to be the 116 game winners that bow out in the divisional round. I think you have to play some meaningful games in September, or you won't be sharp for the post season.

And the Cards haven't scored against him since 2010... So when we don't make the wildcard, the Cubs won't have to worry about that streak being broken.
-
Speaking of pitchers, Cubs pitchers to be exact, why was Jake Areola on ESPN pitching nekkid the other day? There was some segment breaking down his mechanics but for some strange reason, he was flapping in the breeze. Now admittedly, I was slightly aroused for a short time, but I just found that a tad odd. Did he need to be nekkid in prime time?

The amazing thing to me is that the Cubs were able to make this move without losing Schwarber in the trade.

May the Schwarber be with you.

The amazing thing to me is that the Cubs were able to make this move without losing Schwarber in the trade.
I would have really been pissed if they let him go...especially for a guy who's going to be a free agent at the end of the season anyway.
The Cubs of old would have traded Schwarber, 3 great prospects and a player to be named later for much less.

I've watched more of the Braves this year than the last 2-3 years combined. As pissed as I was that they blew everything up and started over, it's been kind neato keen watching some of these young guys develop and you get an idea of who they'll build the future around. Plus, there's no pressure or expectations.
Kemp was a good move. His previous teams are paying a lot of his salary and all they really gave up was Hector Olivera, who they had no plans to keep after what I believe were domestic violence charges.

Where things stand with a little less than 40 games left.
AL: Blue Jobs and Red Sox tied for 1st with AU1's Baltimore Gloryholes 2 back. Baltimore leads in the Wildcard race right now, but too close to call.
Cleveland is up by 7 1/2 games and look to be in control. Solid club.
The pride of WE!!!, Walker Texas Rangers are up 5 1/2 on Seattle but the Mariners have been killing it.
NL: Washington is on cruise control and up by 8 games.
Holy Cow has long since run away with their division, up by 12 1/2
L.A and San Fran in pretty much a dead heat. St. Louie leads in the WC.
BTW, I watched the Steve Bartman special again the other night.
Carry on.

With the month September left to go, it looks like the MLB playoff picture is getting less hazy. The Cardinals could get the WC spot if the Dodgers or Giants take September off.
NL East - Nationals
NL Central - Cubs
NL West - Dodgers/Giants
NL WC - Dodgers/Giants
AL East - Blue Jays/Red Sox
AL Central - Indians
AL West - Rangers
AL WC - Blue Jays/Red Sox

Two WC teams. So it's safe to say the runner up in the NL-W will get in. So last one is between Cards, Mets, and Marlins.

I got a text from one of my buddies who is a Giants fan yesterday, telling me that normally, he would tell me that he hates me for the next three days, but the Giants have been so shitty, he doesn't care if they make it into the play in game. I kinda feel the same way.
Congrats, Buzz. Maybe you'll get a WS Bobblehead to go along with the Waino/Molina one.

I'm stoked Bartman that the Cubs jinx are in the playoffs alou. I hope they finally curse get that ring interference that their fans Bartman have been waiting so long for.

Note to Ex-Braves fans. You need to come back or at least get a look at the nucleus of what looks to be a promising future. This franchise has found some guys that can play. They're over .500 since the All Star break. They have one guy, Matt Kemp, that is over 100 RBI's and will hit 30+ home runs. Freeman is over .300 and has a good shot of reaching 100 RBI's. Their lead off hitter, Ender Inciarte, has the most hits in MLB since the All Star break and is one of the best center fielders in the game. For reference, watch ESPN Top 10. He saved the game with a 9th inning leap over the wall to take a 2 out, winning HR away from Yoenis Cespedes of the Mets, who by the way, the Braves just swept in NY. Say thank you St. Louis.
They've solidified 3rd base and SS with Adonis Garcia and Vanderbilt's, Dansby Swanson. Both incredible up and coming players. I've stuck with them all year and suddenly, they're playing great ball and they're pumped like it's the playoffs.
Look, I know I'm pimping a club 30 games under .500. But I'm telling you, you can start to see a method to the madness. You add a couple of solid starters to the rotation and a couple more veteran sticks, and this team is going to be really fun to watch next year.
-
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Bleeding stops in about 8 games!

I'd be worried if I were the Cubs having to play the even year Giants. Winner of that side of the NLDS will win the NL pennant.
Cubs take first two going to San Fran. That will be a Bumgarner/Arrieta match up.

Dammit. The Braves are done for the year. Shut this forum down!

Not many had the Blue Jays over the Rangers either. I was hoping the Cubs could get a sweep of the Giants to get an extra days rest. Nope.

BOOM! Nice come from behind win for the Cubs to take the series right out of the mouths of the Giants.

Not looking good for Cubbies advancing to Series with the bats suddenly going quiet.
Conversely, the Jays have the bats to put up
some runs in mutiples and I like them to get up early ahead of the Indian's shutdown bullpen and stretch it to six or seven.

Do they trade Donaldson? It's his walk year. You could argue that he was the lone bright spot for the Jays in the ALCS.

Would say they keep him, add another bat and some pitchers but I've been wrong about everything else.

I can't see them trading Donaldson nor Encarnacion. I might LMAO if Batista was traded to the Rangers.

You know, I was watching some of the MLB shows and they were all over the Cubs cold bats. I thought to myself, I hope the Cubbies are seeing this. Apparently they were.

I believe in the "City Curse"
No matter who wins the NLCS, Cleveland will win the WS. The Tribe will likely be down 3-1 and come back to win in epic fashion.
It's Cleveland's turn. I blame LeBron.

Anybody see Mike & Mike this morning? Holy crap, they were dogging Adrian Gonzales and his lack of speed. They were having fans twat "AG is so slow..." jokes and some were hee-larry-us.
AG is so slow, he started rounding 3rd during Vin Scully's very first Dodger's broadcast.
If he raced a pregnant woman, he'd come in 3rd.
I was watching the game when AG walked in front of the TV. Missed 3 innings.

He put the pieces together that broke the Curse of the Bambino and propelled the Red Sox to World Series Titles. If he does the same for the Cubs it will be hard to argue.

I think so. I truly believe the Cubs have a large edge in talent on the mound, in the field and at the plate with the one lone exception of middle relief. However, I also think the Indians have the managerial advantage, which makes up a lot of ground. I really like Maddon, but I believe Francona is a better manager. He was great back in the day when he managed the Barons here in the Ham.

It really pisses me off that the two guys I wanted the Cards to hire when LaRussa resigned are now in the World Series. Maddon, the life long Cards fan, and Francona, who is one of the best in the game.

Haven't read anything about him having any minor league stints. I have to wonder if this will turn out to be a good or bad move, all things considered. I hope he can contribute as a DH, but I wonder if his timing is there.

Scouting Kyle Schwarber’s Arizona Fall League Appearance
by Eric Longenhagen - October 24, 2016
Hours before hell froze over in Chicago in Saturday, Kyle Schwarber was added to the Mesa Solar Sox taxi squad and immediately cast into action as the team’s designated hitter that night at Sloan Park in Mesa.
His presence in the lineup was significant in a way that’s unusual for the Fall League. Most of the participants here are prospects benefiting from extra developmental time against reasonably advanced minor-league competition. Schwarber, on the other hand, is more or less auditioning for a a place on the Cubs’ World Series roster. When he stepped to the plate on Saturday, it represented his first place appearance in a professional game since suffering a knee injury on April 7. That injury was originally characterized as a “season-ending†one. But the Cubs’ season hasn’t ended yet, and Schwarber remains a candidate to contribute to it.
Below are my thoughts on his performance.
Schwarber went 0-for-3 with a walk, the 0 consisting of two weak ground outs to the right side and a well struck ball to the right-center-field gap that seemed destined for extra bases off the bat but was robbed by Rockies prospect Noel Cuevas. The least flattering aspect of Schwarber’s evening was his timing. He was out on his front foot against offspeed stuff a few times, which led to some of the evening’s weak contact and he missed a few other hittable pitches.
Physically, Schwarber’s bat speed looked fine. His swing lacked explosion during the game, but he was putting a charge into the baseball during batting practice, and I think his in-game issues were probably more a result of ill timing than physical discomfort. If you have a tinfoil hat nearby, you can put it on and wonder if Schwarber was apt to get his weight forward onto his front foot so to avoid putting weight on the rear knee (which is the one in which he tore ligaments), but even when healthy Schwarber is often caught out on his front foot. One of the things that makes him special is his ability to adjust and use his strength and hand-eye coordination to make solid contact anyway.
Schwarber didn’t run hard on either of his ground outs, nor on the ball he hit to the outfield (which you can see in the video above), but it doesn’t make sense for him to push his knee in exhibition and if he’s added to the Cubs roster it will be because he’s capable of hitting. After the game, he stood on the field and chatted with the media before walking to a golf cart beyond the outfield with a trainer. He then rode the cart to the Cubs offices, where this ensued. Nobody seems too concerned about that guy’s knee in that video.
Based on what I’ve seen so far, I don’t think Schwarber is physically or technically back to 100%. That said, he took quality at-bats — despite some mediocre swings — and has quickly regained feel for the strike zone. I think most of the power is already back, he’ll just have to regain his feel for hitting to tap into it. Whether or not he will is difficult to say; I’ll be looking for progress on Monday afternoon when Schwarber is expected to be in Mesa’s lineup once again. I think he’d already probably give the Cubs better at-bats than either Jorge Soler or Chris Coghlan have so far this postseason, to say nothing of the potential impact he could have if he finds his timing quickly.

This is shaping up to be a really fun world series.
Mike Napoli, Jason Kipnis bring Jobu back to Cleveland Indians' clubhouse
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Jobu is back in the Indians' locker room.
In the movie Major League, Indians fictional slugger Pedro Cerrano prayed to Jobu, his voodoo statue, so his bats could hit the curveball. It's unclear what real Indians Jason Kipnis and Mike Napoli do in front of their Jobu shrine, but one has been built in the empty locker between them in the far corner of the Tribe's clubhouse.
A sweater with a picture of Jobu and the inscription, "It is very bad to drink Jobu's rum. Very bad," hangs in the locker. The also contains two Jobu statues with small bottles of rum placed between them.
Not sure if there's a connection, but the Indians were wearing "Party at Napoli's' T-shirts for batting practice Tuesday.
Napoli said his agent gave him one of the Jobu statues and the sweater in spring training. Kipnis recently added another Jobu statue to the shrine, that was recently constructed in the Progressive Field locker room.
"We've had Jobu there for a little bit," said Kipnis, after Tuesday's 6-0 victory over the Rays. "He's been working. He didn't like the first airport vodka we left him. So we tried Bacardi (rum) and that seems to be working.
"Right now it's working so we're not going to mess with what works."
-
That is awesome. Hey bartender! Jobu needs a refill!

I have no dog in this fight. None at all. If I had to say who I hope will win, I'd say the Cubs. Why? Because I stepped off the L-Train and saw Wrigley. That's the extent of it.
That being said, those picking the Cubs to win this better pump yo brakes. Cleveland is damn good. Solid in every single phase. I see this going 7. And a dog fight in every game.
-
To quote Rossy, "That guy's slider is nasty."
-
Why is Miller in so early?
-
Why is Miller in so early?
I thought he was always the setup guy.
I think the fact that the Cubs actually were able to hit the guy will help them in this series. The more they can see him, the better.
-
Here it is folks, game 7 of the World Series. Should be a goodn. Hendricks vs Kluber. Read earlier that the Cubs will use Lester in relief if needed.
Edit:
Just read an article that the Cubs bullpen will be standing room only. I would imagine the Indians will be considering the same.
-
If the Cubs lose this one, look no further than the manager. Hendricks was dealing. One walk and he brings in Lester, who promptly screws the pooch to give up 2 cheap ones. Nothing against Lester but Hendricks owned them.
-
Tied at 6 each at the end of the 8th.

Free baseball. Win or lose, Maddon coaches the worst game of his career. Freaking awful pitching decisions.

I did not like the pitching decisions either. Maddon should have let Hendricks at least finish the inning so Lester come in clean. Probably should have let Hendricks go one more inning after and THEN bring in Lester. Chapman was gassed after one inning.

It was a bad decision on both Hendricks and Lester. Hendricks was dialed in and looked like he could have gone 2-3 more innings. He was only throwing about 10 pitches per inning. Once Lester got past that shaky start, he was the same. On cruise control. Maddon pulled him after a little squib hit. But, it worked out. Happy for Ross.

I count 5 runs the Indians would not have had (assuming of course) if Maddon would have trusted his pitchers a little more. Of course my next MLB game to manage will be my first. Cubs still won and that was because the Cubs bats were on fire. Hell, even Fowler broke out of his slump to have an MVP type night.

But then there would not have been any dramatics to the game.
A world series that went down to extra innings. Nice.

Our local sports talk show has Pat Dye on every Monday morning during the season and Gene Stallings on Thursdays. This morning, the host asked him what he thought about that Game 7. Stallings said, and I quote, "Didn't they tie? What happened?"

And that is the silver lining. That was a game for the ages folks. Although I'm a little sluggish this morning, I loved just being able to watch history in the making. Freakin awesome! ......to have one of our own hit a homer and walk off into the sunset with a WS ring. Freakin awesome!
Also, the Cubs haven't won the WS since 1907 & 1908. 8+7=16...as in 2016 (that is Maddons post game comment on MLB Tonight). Also the final score of the game? 8 to 7.....as in.....

So, Maddon and Chizad are related? Who knew?
Yes, and my Red Bull hasn't kicked in yet.
-
At one point last night I told Joe Maddon that he was dead to me. Not sure if he heard me or not, but I felt better. Starting with Tuesday night, pitching Chapman for 2+ innings up 7 runs was dumb. Pulling Hendricks for Lester with a runner on was dumber. Asking Javy Baez to lay down a suicide squeeze with a 3-2 count was bad too. Luckily the Cubs won despite their manager.
-
Oh, and War Damn Rossy!
-
Congrats, Buzzy! Now, you better get your ass to a softball field on November 26th.

So, Maddon and Chizad are related? Who knew?
Ok, so I went back and listened to this bit again. What Maddon actually asked the MLB Tonight crew was when was the last time the Cubs won the WS, 1908 & 1907, then pointed at the score 8 to 7.
-

Oh please. Dude's a steal. He's only got 7 more years to go on that $184,000,000 contract with a deferred $20,000,000 signing bonus. He's definitely giving the Cubbies proper bang for their buck.
I mean, the guy hit over .200 didn't he?

I think he can technically opt for free agency in 3 more years, but if he looks at the market and knows he won't be making north of 20M a year, he'll stay with the cubs. I remember being really pissed with he signed with the Cubs, but after the season he had, I don't feel so bad.

I've watched the ESPN special on Bartman several times and each time it makes me hate Cubs' fans more. JK Buzz. I really felt for the guy and that crowd literally wanted to kill him. As many times as I've seen that replay, I still don't think he did anything wrong...or at least anything different than 100% of the fans would have done and those around him tried to do. I would have tried to catch it. You shittin' me?

Well, it was borderline and the ball was inches from Alous glove as Bartman reached out to grab it. Tough break for both really but Bartman got the raw end of that deal.
As of 2013, Bartman still lives in Chicago and works for a financial services consulting company. He still declines interviews and, while he is still a Cubs fan, has never returned to Wrigley.
Now that is a true fan.
