Auburn Bowl game possibilities
« on: November 16, 2009, 11:46:51 AM »
So we look like we will likely be 7-5 to end the season.  Sure, anything is possible, but 7-5 is looking likely.

However, in this years SEC, that doesn't mean a bad bowl.

Going through the remaining games and factoring in that anyone can beat almost anyone left on their schedule, this is how I'm guessing the year finishes up.

Florida  - BCS
Alabama - BCS

Georgia - 7-5
Carolina - 6-6
Kentucky - 6-6
Tennessee - 7-5

LSU - 9-3 (10-2)
Ole Miss - 8-4 (7-5, 9-3)
Auburn - 7-5
Arkansas - 7-5 (6-6)
Miss State 5-7 (6-6)

Looking at the likely (possible) finishing records, we aren't necessarily relegated to the Independence, Music City, or Papa Johns Bowls.

Go down the list....I assume we are still likely to get one of the top 4 bowls (Cotton, Capital One, Outback, or Chick-fil-A).

College Football News still has us going to the Cotton.  Who knows?

I don't see Cotton.  Just basing it on your projected records...

UF/Bama BCS
LSU - 9-3
Ole Miss - 8-4
Georgia - 7-5
Tennessee - 7-5
Auburn - 7-5
Arkansas - 7-5
Carolina - 6-6
Kentucky - 6-6

I see Music City.

Could be, but I'd think we'd get just as good a look by a bowl at 7-5 as Ole Miss gets at 8-4.  Remember, if a bowl gets "SEC #4", that just means they get 4th choice, not the 4th place team.

Ole Miss' fortunes could change if they beat LSU.  LSU is still in the top 10 and if Ole Miss finishes strong, they'll look a little more attractive than Auburn getting beat by UGA and Bama down the stretch.

We just need to beat Bama and all will be right with the world...again.

Knowing Nutt and Ole Miss, they'll probably beat LSU and then lose to Miss State.

You're right though, if they can beat LSU and Mississippi State, they'll get over us easy at 9-3 and the strong finish.

These four games will determine everything in the bowl picture:
Ole Miss vs LSU
Miss State vs Ole Miss
Arkansas vs Miss State
LSU vs Arkansas

I believe we will go over ole miss due to them playing 2 FCS opponents.

I think they base it more on tv marketing, how well will the team travel, and selling tickets.  I could see usc, ut, ole miss, and arkansas getting a better bid.  I just think Music City or Liberty fits Auburn better with travel and marketing.  I think more would show-up to Atlanta, but I think losing the last two (and 5 of last 7) puts us out of that conversation.

In his first news conference as AUBURN'S head coach in 1981, Pat Dye was asked this question:  "How long will it take you to beat Alabama"?  To which he responded, "Oh, about 60 minutes".

I'd love it.

The Peach Bowl (whatever it's called) is my favorite non-BCS bowl to play in.  Hell, not considering the preliminary requirements, I like it more than the Sugar Bowl.  That was a New Year's Eve to remember.

Fingers crossed for the Cotton or the Chick-fil-A....yes, I'm selfish...those are two I think I can probably swing.

The Cotton is still possible.  We need Arkansas at 6-6, Ole Miss definitely no better than 8-5 (preferably 7-5).

Then maybe it goes LSU to the Capital One, Tennessee to the Outback, Georgia to the Peach-fil-A, Auburn to the Cotton, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Miss State to the other lesser games.

If we win out to finish at 8-4, we may pick a boll of that cotton. If we do that, we'll be on a 5 game win streak to finish the season.
I won't be surprised if Ole Miss loses their next two. LSU will knock McCluster out early to solve that problem and the rout will be on.

I went to the 98 Peach Bowl when AU played Clemson. I was with one of the marching bands that performed at the halftime show, so we were around the locker rooms when halftime started and then again when AU came out of the locker rooms. That was pretty cool.

Its kind of sad, I've never been able to make it to an Alabama game, but I have been to an Auburn game.

This statement epitomizes Alabama fandom at its core.

"I've never been able to make it to an Alabama game"

Never been to an Alabama game.

Never been.

Speechless.
