Franklin fired today.

Quote
Tony Franklin has been fired as Auburn’s offensive coordinator a source close to the program told the Opelika-Auburn News on Wednesday afternoon.

Franklin was hired in December of 2007, just a few days after then-AU offensive coordinator Al Borges was let go by head coach Tommy Tuberville.

Franklin, who spent the last two years at Troy, was brought to Auburn to run the spread offense - or the “Tony Franklin System” which has been installed at high school programs across the country.

Franklin’s offense hasn’t lived up to its expectations this season, as the Tigers are 4-2, 2-2 in the SEC.

The offense is near or at the bottom in most offensive categories in the SEC and the country. Auburn ranks 104th in total offense (309.2 yards per game), 105th in pass efficiency (104.98), tied for 111th in red zone offense (65 percent) and 112th in third-down conversions (29.7 percent).

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Guess What, Posted by Brian Matthews in the Bunker...so that is a pretty solid thing.  This is going to be bad, if we lose this weekend Tuberville will be gone.

Franklin out as Auburn's offensisve coordinator
Posted by Charles Goldberg, Birmingham News October 08, 2008 3:01 PM
Categories: Football
Auburn offensive coordinator Tony Franklin was relieved of his duties Wednesday halfway through his first season of directing a spread offense that never caught fire.

Head coach Tommy Tuberville will meet with his team at 3:30 to tell them of the dismissal.

Tuberville said he will take a bigger role in plotting the course of the offense. Tuberville said he'll decide in the next day or so who will call the plays in Saturday's game against Arkansas.

Auburn is 104th in the nation in total offense.

Any word on Chris Todd's whereabouts?

And for the record I am sad that it didn't work out. I hoped for a better result. But when Franklin hitched his wagon to Todd and refused to unhitch I knew it was doomed.

Why?  for firing someone who obviously could not or would not do their job?  That sounds like someone in charge to me.  It may happen over something else but I don't see this in and of itself.

Everyone knew a change needed to be made.  In what capacity that change comes...we don't control.  At this point everyone faces forward and moves in that direction.  Look for an added spark on Saturday.

depends on how the offense starts out against ARK.  if we go back to what works best and pound the ball on the ground, we might see that spark.  plus, the defense might actually get to rest during the game.

should be interesting who starts at QB.  i know AWK will disagree with me, but i think Todd, will (surprisingly) still start.
