McElwain is new head coach at UF.

Excuse me while I try not to laugh.

Not a bad hire.  Probably not the championship caliber coach they'll want.

If I had to make a prediction, I'd say Florida becomes the new Georgia.  A good 8-9 win season each year with the occasional SEC East championship when other teams suck ass.

Agree, it actually isn't.  Still though, it's UF, thats the type of hire I expect from Ole Miss.

Gator relative asked me what I knew about McElwain yesterday and I couldn't say much. Since Saban doesn't let them talk to the media, you don't know much about bammer assistants, even living in Alabama.

It doesn't wow me but I think it's prob a solid hire. He has done a good job at col state.

Well FRICK!!!!

Not because I think this is a homerun hire or Go Gatah will suddenly be a MNC contender.  I do agree it's a decent hire, though.  It's just that no matter who the gusty Gatah are playing, we'll have to hear 50 times a game how he is a Lord Saybinz disciple.  Never played or coached anywhere else.  He learned everything he knows from LS.

Wait, that may be a new drinking game.

Much the same was said when they hired Meyer. Not a homerun hire....until a couple of years later.

I think McElwain is a good coach and this is an underrated hire. What he has done at CSU is pretty impressive. Solid but not a flashy hire.

Disagree Meyer had been to multiple programs and had turned all of them around quickly.  He was a big get for them, he was a hot commodity at the time.

Again, probably will turn out to be a good hire but totally not what the "experts" were predicting.  All you heard was they wanted a wide open offense and a great offensive minded coach.  Now granted, he was the OC at Bama and they actually did put up some good numbers under McElwain. But the style was more grind it out, play action and win with D.

That being said, was that more a function of LS dictating that as the way he wanted to play?  Anyone know what kind of O he ran at CSU?

Stoops was supposed to be the splash when they hired Urban. I almost remember there being slight surprise amongst the gator nation when that happened, although like GF said, it was also a good hire in general anyway. So maybe this will turn out the same way for them. Foley has been known for hiring out of left field.

Seeing as how I hate the Mutts in the east, I am rooting for both McElwain and Jones to be kicking UGA's ass on a regular basis.

Ehhh, he used Sabanz as a stepping stone. Wasnt there very long. And was somebody before and after Sabaynz. Of course the media will say the Saban stuff often, but I do think McElwain is solid. I just hate UGA. Things are bad for them when Tenn and UF are better.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.
