This just in....
Nebraska hires Oregon State Mike Riley as coach
Quote
Nebraska has hired Mike Riley as their new head coach, the team announced Thursday.

"It is truly an honor to join the University of Nebraska family," Riley said in a statement. "Though we love Corvallis and Oregon State, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to coach at one of the nation's most storied football programs and I can't wait to get started. My sincere thanks to Chancellor Perlman and [athletic director] Shawn Eichorst for their confidence in me and I look forward to becoming a part of the Nebraska family and building upon the great history and tradition."

Riley has spent 14 seasons (over two tenures) as Oregon State's coach, and also coached the San Diego Chargers and the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Oregon State collected 93 wins under Riley and had a 6-2 record in the postseason.

Nebraska will introduce Riley in a Friday news conference.

Riley replaces Bo Pelini, who was fired Sunday after finishing the season 9-3.

Ha ha Gators out headlined.

BTW I think Nebraska just got trolled.  How is that not a monumental fail?

Go from Pelini who always won 9 games or more to Riley?

I don't know. When Riley has had the athletes, he's put together some pretty dang good teams. As Nebraska, he will get better athletes.

So I cannot deem it a fail just yet.

Oh c'mon.  It's not like they hired a coach who was 5-19 in his last two years.

Over Peilini it is, Riley's best season at OSU was 10-4.  Pelini never lost more than 4 in his tenure at Nebraska.

And Riley while respectable had every opportunity to turn OSU into a contender in the Pac 12.  Never did.

In fact, I think his only real big time win was the 2006 win over USC.  He's beaten Notre Dame in 2004 in the Insight.com bowl and Missouri in the Sun Bowl.  He did beat Boise State in 2005.

He hasn't beaten Oregon since 2007.  I think he's only beaten them twice.

I'm surprised he left.  He had plenty of opportunities to leave in the past but always seemed happy in Corvalis.

Not a Peilieieioni fan but when 9 win avg isn't successful, expectations may be a little over the top.

I know they have a strong tradition but that seems a little like the famous Bill Curry firing--which eventually worked out.

Nebraska has a habit of firing coaches who average 9-10 wins since Osbourne.

Not me.  His lineage is enough for me to actively hope for epic failure on a grand scale.  0-12 implosion.

So did you also think Pat Dye was a bad hire because of his Bama lineage?

True they hired one that went 12-13 vs the one they had that went 18-7

He does.

But things are different now.

When Muschamp left Saban, he was just another coach on Saban's tree.

Now the coaches that coach under Saban and leave are extensions of his fingers.

Nope.  But Dye was a Georgia man first.  And when he came to Auburn he became an Auburn man for life.

McElroywaine is, to me, like Dumbo Swinney.  He's a fucking bammer first, last and always no matter where he goes.  He could be at Florida for 40 years and he'd still be a bama fuck at heart. Same with rawwl taahhhd Dumbo.  I hate that sonofabitch.  Kirby Smart is another.  A Bama fucking lifer.  Boo on his ass.

I don't feel that way about Muschamp. He's not truly a Saban disciple nor is he a Bama fuck at heart.  He's a Georgia guy and I can handle that.

Like Tracy Rocker. He may coach at Georgia or where ever, but he's still an Auburn man.  Vince Dooley even is to a degree.

I'm sick of this whole effort to tie every coach in the world to Saban like they used to do with Bryant.  Coaching tree my ass.

You want a coaching tree?  Look at Tommy Tuberville.

Muschamp
Rhoads
Petrino
Chizik
Mazzone - Still an OC
Borges - Recently at Michigan
Art Kaufman - Still a DC
Neal Brown - HC at Troy
Eddie Gran - Current OC with Tuberville

His lineage is more consistently successful than Saban's bag of shit.

Back to the news of the day.

The Florida hire is underwhelming to say the least.  He's not a well known name, he hasn't really 'broken through' like Urban Meyer did and he's not the horse anybody was really chasing.

Why this guy?  Because he served under Saban who's a clone of Belichick who was mentored by Bill Parcells who cut his teeth under the hand of Ray Perkins who was a favorite son of the sainted Bear.

It's like Five Fucking Degrees of Bahr Bryunt up in here. I mean seriously, you knew that's what this whole thing was with Saban, right?  You can tie him directly back to the dead drunk.

Will McElroywayne be a good coach for UF?  I don't think anybody has a clue. He's done okay against crap competition in an inferior league. If Auburn had hired him I would be apathetic at best.

The Nebraska hire is similarly yawn-inducing.

His first coaching job Louisville and then Michigan State. He didn't catch up with Saban until 2008 after he had been with the Oakland Raiders and then back to college of Fresno State.
