Of course, we all follow our War Eagles here, but with the season fast approaching, I like paying at least a little attention to what's going on with other teams and opponents as well. Just things I read or pick up on the ESPNs etc.
You guys know I love my preseason mags. Hot Midget Amputee Monthly is my favorite. But that goes without saying, doesn't it? One thing you always seem to see is a name on the Heisman watch lists that gives you a WTF pause. Remember Jacob Coker? Admittedly, he had a solid season, but before his year under center at Bama, I'm not sure the guy had played a quarter of ball, if any at all. But he was a preseason Heisman frontrunner. This year, it's Justin Fields at THE Ohio State University. Now, he may step on the field and tear it up, but as of yesterday, he still had not won the starting job over Kentucky transfer, Gunnar Hoak. Heisman?
In FUGA news, Kirby Smart dismissed LB/DE, Brenton Cox, from the team. He's now enrolled at Go Gaytah. Probably sit for a year, but if he just makes the claim, like Fields, that someone called him a nurra', then the NCAA should grant immediate eligibility. One thing I love seeing at FUGA is that they lost their top 3 receivers from last year. JJ Holloman was supposed to be the boy dog, but he was dismissed earlier too after it was revealed he went Upchurch on his girl. Kirby apparently didn't learn how to handle that issue from Lord Saybinz.
Speaking of Go Gaytah, they've had some injury and departure issues of their own. They lost 4 starting O-linemen. (I'm not sure, but next year I believe we lose 5. Not sure which ones, though) They lost a starting DB for the year along with a LB. Plus they've had a bunch of guys enter the time continuum transfuctioner. I'll be pulling for the U in a couple of weeks.
Up at Bummah, they lost a LB for the season due to injury. Granted, he wasn't a stud but he was a 5th year senior and expected to move into the starting role. Now, I'm reading several pieces that say he probably wouldn't have played....or they didn't want him...or he hasn't been on the roster since the Sugar Bowl.
News, gossip, scuttlebutt?

Miami QB Tate Martell transferred from tOSU to da U because of Justin Fields' transfer from FUGA to tOSU. Martell spouts off a tweet to fields before leaving for Miami that he better not wiff twice. (meaning at FUGA and now at tOSU)
Martell was supposed to win the starting job at Miami, yesterday he did not. Jarren Williams was announced as QB1 at da U.
Martell didn't show up for practice today.

Martell crossed.

Apparently, we are signing our fair share of sandy vaginas. Asa Martin transferred to the U. He's now entered the transporter again and is beaming elsewhere. Same for Calvin Ashley. Lasted a few months at FAU and now he's climbing back in the transporter again. Scotty gonna' have to get some extra dilitheum crystals to beam his big ass somewhere else.

This doesn't change anything Fields! I'm still an All-Pro quarterback with 2 Superbowl rings!

I predict that Auburn will run the twirly bird play thingy and will have a tiger as a mascot.

How much eligibility can old man Martell have?
Dude looks like he's closing on 30.

The whole Alabama/Clemson thing has taken the fun out of it for me.
I don't really care very much.

Reverting back to some AU foosballz, Oregon (they're just so fast) will be a quality opponent, no doubt. I'm thinking similar to Washington last year. They have 4 of their 5 starters back on the O-line as well as their big ass QB and running back. Defensively, they return a bunch of guys too.
They were 9-4 last year but that record is not very impressive. They started out 3-0 with wins over Bowling Green, Portland State and San Jose State. So, after playing 3 puppies, they went 6-4 the rest of the way with losses to Stanford, Utah, Washington State (by 14) and a woodshed beating from Arizona 44-15. In their bowl game, they finally faced a legit defense in Michigan State and squeezed out a 7-6 win.
If our offense can find it's way between now and kick off, I think we handle them.

Sounds like they've already found their way from all the practice reports. Which is the way straight to 3-9 and a buyout for Gus
-
Sort of....but not really college football.
Jarrett Stidham is killing it in the preseason. Yeah, they're exhibition games and most starters aren't playing. But he's still putting pieces in the Reese's.
-
I am finally starting to get excited about the season. I predict that will go away some time around 8:15 on Saturday, August 31.

tough night on the pitch for the Timbers. Lost 2-0 against Atlanta United.

We Play 6 teams in the pre-season AP poll that are ranked in the top 12

Back to our War Eagles for a sec. Or better yet, back to the Quack. Oregon had a scrimmage this past Saturday and lost a receiver, Mycah Pittman, for 6 to 8 weeks with a shoulder injury. Pittman was only a true freshman but was expected to start immediately being like the 15th rated receiver in the country in the 2019 class. Oregon lost last year's stud WR who had over 1,800 yards. Then, the 2 main guys set to fill that role are both out until at least mid season with injuries. Now Pittman is gone.
So, I guess I'm saying they'll light us up for 400 through the air.
Seriously though, I don't wish injury on anyone (Well almost anyone), but I hope they get better and ready to go about an hour after the final horn in Dallas.

I have diddly to go on other than the Spring game. Neither have any college experience other than a mop up, hand the ball off role for Gatewood in the bowl game. I thought Nix had a good bit more touch with his passes and he was surprisingly quick when he took off. The thing I like is this may be a long term dealio....if he works out.
Nix has basically been groomed for this all his life, growing up in a football family with dad playing at Auburn. Patrick has extensive college coaching experience including the OC at Miami. I would say his son has learned from a pretty damn good one.
Yeah, there will be growing pains, and playing QB under Malzahn may be the biggest obstacle of all. I think in the long run, he could turn out to be very good. Not making any predictions because I bought the Jeremy Johnson hype and thought he'd set records. Actually, I think he did. Just not in the areas we'd like. But, doesn't it seem like JJ had a lot more hype to him than 5* Nix does? I guess people are just being cautiously optimistic. I know I am.

We have the same thoughts with Malzahn being a built-in obstacle so let's hope the kid has enough resilience to overcome crazy play calling and misguided blame.

I predict Gus will have him broke by midseason. He will turtle next year before he finally transfers to Appalachia State in year three.
I hope I have to eat these words.

Normally I would agree except for the x-factor. His daddy won't let that happen. Shows me all I need to know that a True Freshman beats out the guy that has already been in the program for a year.

It's definitely going to be baptism by fahr. If he's still standing at midseason, we may have something at QB.
-

Also shows me that Nix wanted it more. Maybe perhaps Gatewood thought the job was his and took things for granted? Maybe not. Regardless, Nix showed up and showed out along with diddy I'm sure being very vocal. We all should have seen this coming really.

Gus had a full year to screw Gatewood up

Wanted more, took things for granted or seen it coming? Easy answer, NO, to all three.
-

Exactly...however I don't think Pat would let Gus screw up Bo at least that's what I'm hoping.
-
Go Gaytah's depth on the D-line just took a shot. They lost senior, Elijah Conliffe for the season with a foot injury. 6'4" 310 pound back up who played in 13 games last season.
I know that's a little more Jorts U info than most people want, but Florida has had some attrition in the off season and the schedules for a lot of the SEC teams is absolutely brutal. Florida's "meat" comes in the middle and with a stretch including Auburn, LSU, Sakerlina and Fuck Georgia, you need all the able bodies you can get.
Plus, it should be about 143 degrees Saturday against Miami.
-
Exactly...however I don't think Pat would let Gus screw up Bo at least that's what I'm hoping.
Agree. The shoddy treatment of Sean White exposed Gus and I think the Auburn faithful would go pitchforks and torches if the same is applied to Nix.
Found a few old posts elsewhere mentioning White's grittiness and Stidham's hesitance and how the combination of the two would be a perfect fit.
I can still see White playing hurt and desperately asking for a play while the sideline fuckery forces the wildcat.
Stidham knew what he was getting into and had a sense of survival about him which often angered us but then none of us currently occupy a roster spot with the Patriots. Good on him...he made it!
-
Plus, it should be about 143 degrees Saturday against Miami.
Oh my, that means the "feelike" temperature is gonna feel like 195.
-
Observations/Opinions:
The official opening of college foosballz is tomorrow. I love weekends that we don't play. No pressure. No skress. So, it's some high school ball tonight and have some peeps over tomorrow to grill some type of meat...to be determined. But it will include some Conecuh, the OFFICIAL SAUSAGE of your Auburn Tigers.
Random Thought: I hate Fuck Georgia. But, I've caught a few games on the SEC Network that they've been running from last season to lead up to this one. Seen FUGA a few times and one thing that stands out about them recently and over the years is they rarely have a big name in the trenches. Yeah, occasionally they do, but their defense always seems to be centered around 220 lb. guys who can flat out fly. Linebackers and safeties who will run your ass down. I truly believe we have our own right now in Owen Pappoe. The Corches are raving on this guy. Can't wait to see him on the field.
Another random thought: I saw where they are saying the Tulane game will be a white out. First off, that's racist. Second, I don't want to wear white. I sweat a lot and white really isn't flattering on my ample man-boobs.
Speaking of, I've been in search of the 2019 game day shirt. It appears it's down to a basic, sold blue Columbia. Simple and classic.

Some warmup ball tomorrow evening.
Mostly crap, but Gtech v Clemson and Utah v BYU could be entertaining.
Curious to see what the new-look Jackets put on the field. While exceedingly unlikely, it would H-I-Larious to see them knock Dabo off in week 1.

Yeah Tech is sort of that league's Miss. State. You're in a slugfest, put them on the mat a couple of times but they won't stay down. Collins seems like a good choice to breathe more life into that program.

GT is going to get beat SOUNDLY. It's nice that GT is trying to come on into this century of college foosball an all but they are trying to run an offense without any talent to run it.

Yeah, I was reading an article the other day from one of their own beat writers who was giving an abbreviated preview of the new look Jackets. He posed the question of what will be the biggest difference between last year's team and this one. His answer: Maybe a new deodorant.

And their offense won’t matter anyway.
Not after their D gets ass raped dry by Trevor, the twin tower wideouts and the best rb in the country.

Ok but you gotta admit it's an easier transition converting to a multiple offense rather than to the bone personnel- wise.
Oh fuck it, it's just Tech. Rather argue about potatoes or rice.

Best runnin' back in thuh mommy partry? Boy, you done loss yo' damn mind. Narjay Harris is hands down, thuh best back. An we gots 4 more jess like him.
Speaking of Najee, he's being punished severely for missing a team meeting, function or some shit. He might not play first quarter.

Are Stove and Hastings good to go?
If so, that makes us seriously tough to defense, even without Flash.

Most likely.
But, Clemson being anointed with a playoff position pre season may have them complacent. First game of the season... Who knows?
Just saying it would be glorious.

As talented as they are overall, you have to think there will be a drop off (To an extent) with that entire D-line off to the pros.

I still say Dabo modeled Climpsum after Auburn only he had sense enough to let his coordinators have their way while enabled Gus drifted further into megalomania and paranoia.
That's my professional opinion.

33 is a lot of points. If GT could just score 10 thats 44 Clemson has to come up with. Unfortunately 33 is just too many to give up in this one
-
It's generally OSU and Oklahoma that shell opponents by 50 in openers.
Clemson isn't quite yet the "chalkie,"
...although this year's Tech team seems ripe for a merciless beating.

Tech has an offense that could easily get better as they get the right personnel.
But its gonna be a long season for them.

Chip Kelly should have stayed in the NFL it seems. I actually felt bad watching his Jeremy Johnson prototype QB last night. I think he was 8-30 with 1 backwards pass.

UCLA was brutally bad for a Power 5 team. They kept trying to hype "DTR" as this badass QB and he was just awful. I think they would have replaced him with Jeremy Johnson if he was available.

They could have put Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady behind that line and it would not have mattered. Cincy beat them to a pulp all night. Luke Fickell was clearly not in the mood. UCLA and USC could start a combined 0-10.
UCLA schedule
Cincinatti - L 14-24
San Diego State - ain't no gimme there, that team can run
Oklahoma - the Jalen Hurts Heisman campaign gets and early bump
@ Washington State - may not be as good as recent Leach teams but they will carve that defense up like Michael Myers on Oct 31
@ Arizona - pure toss up; based on how awful the 'Cats looked last week, I wouldn't be surprised to see the final score 3-0 in double OT
USC
Fresno State - Good chance the Trojans get wrapped and slapped
Stanford - Cardinal ain't what they used to be but they are better than SoCal
@ BYU - They looked tough for a half. Maybe USC has enough speed to get by?
Utah - Nope. Not by a sight.
@ Washington - Uh uh. No sir.
TL;DR version - the two "Power 5" teams in Los Angeles are the sux

Just a bit ago, I'm in the Ford F-150 and heard Finebaum interviewing Todd McShay. Interview:
PF: Todd, the injury to Dylan Moses was a big blow to the Tide. Talk about what he meant to that unbelievable defense.
TM: Tide awesome, blah blah blah. Tide great. Drone on and on. Love me some Saban.
PF: With Najee Harris being out, talk about how great and deep Alabama's running backs are.
TM: Unreal depth. Saban great. Blah blah blah.
PF: How great are the receivers?
TM: 4 first rounders. Greatest talent ever assembled. Saban has huge cock.
PF: I know you're reeeeeally high on Tua. Talk about his greatness.
TM: Most accurate QB in the history of the game at any level. Smartest, fastest, quickest, best looking. Saban's butthole is gold plated.
PF: Now, let's move over to Dallas for the Game between Auburn and Oregon. Talk about Justin Herbert.
TM: Big, accurate. Saban didn't want him. Wears Tua Underoos.
PF: Todd, thank you for your time. Todd McShay everybody.
-
We will beat Oregon by two touchdowns. Bank it!

A couple of observations. Last night, Notre Dame QB, Ian Book, threw one out of bounds to avoid the sack. In doing so, he nailed a Louisville cheerleader right in the schnozz and broke it in two.
But earlier in the weekend, this happened:

I think LSU wins by a wider margin (10-17pts)
I would swap the Vandy and Mizzou outcomes
Neither Arky nor Ole Miss are going to approach those point totals. Absolute tickle fight. The O/U is right at 50. Take the under.

Yeah but you make picks based on scores, might as well go with your points and just assign the picks accordingly....or not since we actually don't play for anything.

So, speaking of points, why I got 7 picks right but only 6 points? Curious. I'm still on the learneth curve.

Finally...a meaty slate of football tomorrow. The kind of broadcast schedule that has you questioning your life choices. Like: why did I only set up three televisions? Or: will 50 wings and a handle of bourbon last until the last Pac-12 game ends???
It's not quite rivalry weekend...it's not even mid-October conference wartime...but there are a SHIT pile of games on tomorrow. I'll casually be monitoring:
Army/Mich
Cincy/OSU
Vandy/Purdue
WVU/Mizzou
USF/GaTech
Neb/Colo
SoMiss/Miss St
LaMonroe/FSU (for potential lulz)
BYU/Tenn (more lulzzz)
Arky/OM (endless lulzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)
Nevada/Oregon
Miami/UNC
Stan/USCw
I'm excited about:
TAMU/Clem
LSU/Tex
Aub/Tulane
What's on your schedule?
-
Interested to see:
LSU @ Texas
Miami @ UNC
aTm @ Clemson
Cincinnati @ tOSU
Mountain Mommmas @ Mizzou
Stanford @ USCw
and of course Two Lane @ Auburn

College Observation. Next September in Baton Rude, LSU fans and administration will have the chance to show the college football world why they epitomize the word, "class". Apparently, they were treated in a less than hospitable manner during their visit to Austin this past Saturday. The band was seated in the upper deck and they kept the AC off in the visiting locker room, among other things. Stupid. Childish. Mildly amusing. However, they also apparently have never been to Red Stick to experience that Bayou hospitality.
Urine soaked nerf balls. Children cussing your grandma. Cheerleaders (Females) X'ing you out after a score. Just good, clean fun. And hey, Texas fan. Maybe you'll get to learn a new song while you're there.

Observation: I was at the AU/Tulane game so I didn't get to see LSU and Tejas live. Watched the replay last night. First, one hell of a game. Back and forth, great athletes going up and down the field. Yes, this ain't your grandpa's LSU. I saw one running play in about a 10 minute stretch. This is supposedly The Saints offense and it's scary good.
Texas may not be "back" as everyone proclaimed, but quite honestly, I don't want any of that right now. They looked damn good. You might assume that it's two weak defenses but when high powered offenses are clicking, very few college defenses can stop them. But then, maybe it was just two mediocre teams making each other look good. Either way, it was an entertaining ball game.
Extremely trivial note here. Not that I give a shift about either one, but it's good to see two traditional powers stay true to traditional uniforms. Both look just like they did 20 years ago. I'm happy that Auburn has never done more than a tweak here and there. Still the same basic scheme they wore decades ago.

I don't relish playing them there with no run game and a freshman qb no matter how good he is, even against my grandpa's LSU. All this and knowing our defense with be tasked with scoring while staying on the field for as much as three quarters. Not a good thought.

Well, the good thing is that it usually took LSU about 3 plays to score, so our D shouldn't get too gassed out there.

I used to live close to Tuscaloosa. Kid went to private school there in a place that was probably 80% Bama fans.
One of the fundraisers we were expected to work as parents was the concession stand at Alabama football games. (This is another story but my horribly shitty attitude and refusal to wear their colors forced them to let me buy out of that obligation and only work it once).
So before working it I heard from hundreds of their dumbass fans about their amazing hot dog sauce and how it was the best of any stadium in the country. They’d tried it all but theirs was a secret mix and unparalleled.
So I’m working the stand and my the-opposite-of-chick-fil-a demeanor with the drunken rubes who staggered up to the window and sprayed halitosis in my face through their four remaining teeth as they ordered half full cokes and hot dogs convinces the guy “in charge†that maybe I’m a bigger asset if I work behind the scenes assembling. Shortly after halftime we run out of the magical secret hot dog sauce. I’m sent to the back to create more. Well, at least I will get something out of this experience. I ask for the secret recipe, expecting to find pre-mixed ingredients that give it the allure ive been led to believe it possesses. And the guy running the stand leans in and whispers “two parts ketchup, one part mustard.â€
Fools.

Quick JHS observation. Some of the game day changes were posted a week or two ago, including info about the new metal detectors. Word of advice, plan accordingly. It takes 3 times as long to get in the gate. They not only do the bag checks, but now you're in single file and everyone has to empty their pockets etc. So, if you do like a lot of people, including me, and say I'll leave in time to get in and see the eagle fly and pregame festivities, move that time up about 15 minutes.

Joey Gatewood should be the starting QB for Auburn. Whitlow and Joiner should be splitting reps at RB. Too bad Gus is stubborn.

Yeah we can just run the option with John Franklin III.
Agree on Joiner.
No way JG should start. But he should damn sure get more playing time. Nix is maki m so e good decisions. He's missing some open guys, but that can be fixed.

Would really like to know why Gus was so openly pissed with Nix after some nice keepers. Started leaving the ball high afterwards.
It was Kent State. Let's see what this offensive line does on the road against much better talent. Agree Gatewood needs a few series but we did all that in clean-up against a team that gave its all in the first half.

No.
We have opponents on the schedule that will require our QB to throw as much or more than Nix did vs. Oregon.
I'm not convinced our line can pass block any better than they run block.

In my opinion, it's a formula and system issue, fellas. Gus hates that people think all he's good at is designing an offense that is best operated by a mobile QB with either serious speed or brute force enough to negate lack of top-end speed. It's why we keep getting players (some good, some not so much, so with real talent) who are ham-fisted into a role that doesn't work best for their skills. Bo Nix has talent for days. Can he throw better than JG1? Yep, no argument. But the element of a big, physical, running QB along with solid RBs is Gus' calling card. Some of you are right to point out the offensive line issues and those there. However, I think we could work around some of those issues with the 2010/2013 Gus offense vs. all this other stuff. Getting super excited after housing a mid to lower MAC team is not something I can get up for. I'm prepared to watch Auburn get it pushed in a lot over the next two months.

Look I can imagine how Mississippi State would have fared if Mullen had gotten Cam Newton followed by Dak Prescott. Would have also attracted more talent.
Can also envision Bo Nix playing for Mike Leach. Couldn't blame him if he had gone anywhere but Auburn.
Our moronic coach had a shitty offensive line returning the year Cam rightfully decided to turn pro. Also why we failed to get Russell Wilson IMO.
Malzahn's done this before. It's why I've bitched about him signing 8 wide receivers and 3 midgets when we desperately needed offensive linemen, defensive linemen or linebackers. He is of the mind that he can load up on skill players while skimping on the big guys which is the foundation of a team.
And to your point those recruited by him turn into role players by being underutilized and undercoached...see Kodi Burns. We probably lost George Pickens for this very reason. Don't like how the kid did Auburn but I get it. And I've understood losing many others that should have been Auburn locks that went elsewhere.
But we live in the now and Nix has far more to overcome than just a piss poor offensive line.
-
I thought Nix was very efficient last night. I think he was 13-17. Yes, it was KentState but you have to be satisfied when your team does exactly what they should do against that level opponent. I also liked our pass rush last night. Seemed to get after the QB a lot better. Good stuff to build on.

I was actually more concerned with the way our defense played than the offense for the first time in like.....forever.
Also, am I the only one that wanted to drop kick Kent States whiny coach?

We are a 2.5 point underdog at College Station.
Against Clemson they held the Dabo's to 3 of 9 on 3rd downs.
Clemson scored 17 in the second quarter but throughout the game A@M was stingy against the run.

We will run the hell out of it then!
That's the spirit. Gus figures we can lure them into a false sense of security by pretending to get stonewalled up front all while keeping it close.
And of course in the end we will run roughshod through them and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
It's definitely a cunning plan and the Aggies will be none the wiser.

Observation/Opinion: Was listening to sports talk on the transistor radio and someone made the comment that we're headed into week 4 of the season. Next week, half the high school regular season will be in the books.
Didn't we just kick it off in Dallas last week?
To me, this is why football in general is the best sport on the planet. They don't play 162 or 82 games with playoffs that last 2 months or more. It's one game a week and you get to spend the first part of the week breaking down what just happened, and the rest of it analyzing what's about to take place. Good, bad or ugly, college football is also the only sport on the planet where at the end of the day, your chance to compete for a national championship is not just decided by wins and losses, but ultimately by the opinions of a group of people.
I love this time of year. Just wish it wasn't 100 degrees in the shade.

Wisconsin going in dry on that jackass Harbaugh.
28-0 at the half.
Michigan has 3 first downs and 96 total yards.

AU was a good bit better than A&M. Should have beaten them by 21+.
Interesting.
I hate Jimbo.
State and Ole Miss improved. MSU will give AU trouble Saturday.
South Carolina is a trash fire, rendering Bama's "big" win meaningless. I think Muschamp is done.
Tennessee is a trash fire inside a ring of trash covered in burning trash. I have a hard time forgiving Malzahn for losing to that bunch.
Florida? Who knows. Better without Fuckstick Franks.
Kentucky ugh. Vandy ugh. Arkansas haha ugh. Dumbasses. Fuck Arkansas.
LSU looks like the best team in the conference, but I need them to play somebody.
UGA -- overhyped again. Perpetual.
The Pac12 is a wasteland. The ACC is a ghost town except for Clemson (and they wouldn't be as good as they are if they played in a real conference)
Michigan. I used to like the Wolverines. Probably my second favorite team. They're ruining that. I loathe Harbaugh.
Don't care about much else.
-
LSU and Alabama have the best passing games in the SEC but neither can play defense for shoot.
Auburn has a sputtering offense and incredible defense. We’ll see how it works, Cotton.
PAC12, ACC- you suck.
Clemson gets a free pass.
UCF - lololololol
Ohio St and Wisconsin will be a fun BIG10 game Oct. 26. Otherwise that conference is meh.

Observation: How much better is the tackling these days under Steele? I recall going back to the days of Josh Bynes, when he complained in an interview about his own guys not wanting to tackle properly. He said that everybody was trying for the "thud" (I believe he called it) where defenders were just trying to knock someone off their feet with what basically amounts to a hard block. I think our guys, for the most part, have become much better at teh tackles.
There were a couple of exceptions where Tutt went in like a missile at the guy's legs and another time a DB did the same thing. Now granted, both wound up being successful, but I don't get why you can't still try to wrap them up at the same time.
This past Saturday, Mr. Mond impressed me. Yes, I totally get that A&M was in scramble mode being down 18. But we didn't go into a prevent and forced them to earn every yard. The frustrating thing was he continued to throw pinpoint passes with defenders draped all over the receivers, time and time again. Sometimes, you just gots to give a guy his due.

On a more serious note, MSU is 3-1. Their team stats on offense are about the same as ours, but we're a good bit better rushing offense. Their two toughest opponents are Kansas State, who they lost to, and Kentucky, who they handled 28-13 last weekend. All of their games have been at home.
This is not one to look past. They beat our ass last year; however, this isn't close to the same team personnel wise. Our D has basically won 3 of the 4 games we've played because we're not exactly an offensive juggernaut at this point in the season. A 10 point win would make me moist.
-
I would Auburns defense are drooling to hurt him

Quite a coaching accomplishment to finish consistently strong every year with what is perceived as 3* talent.

For us, the one thing we can never fault Malzahn for is the level of recruiting. We have had years where you could look at every single position on both sides of the ball and point to the fact that we have a 4-5* guy playing. Talent-wise, we can match up with just about anybody. Obviously, there have been other "issues" that have kept us from consistently playing at the level we recruit at.
As for Wisconsin, this year may be a bit of an anomaly in that to this point, they are very balanced between running and passing. However, I think they have, in a weird way, been the beneficiary of not evolving with 90% of college football. They've traditionally developed very talented backs and had them punish people behind mammoth O-lines. It may seem simple, but I think most teams just don't have the capability of stuffing true, smash-mouth football. It does look like they're opening it up a bit more this year, though.

They have a four or five loss season every 5 years or so...much like us but they have over a 75% winning percentage the last ten years and I for one fucking hate playing them.
What I want is for us to snatch some of their drive blocking prospects out from under them. Same for any wishbone programs that consistently road grade opponents.

Yeah this one is a senior which indicates the gene pool will live on for several generations AFTER MY UNTIMELY DEATH, or timely considering the circumstances.

So this is the guy Derrick Brown and company need to swallow up to make the Bulldogs one dimensional and force throws against us. By the same token, we need to establish our own running game while gunning for the big payoff.

Interesting look at the role recruiting plays in getting to the top of the mountain. And, for Paul Chryst, how it doesn't even fucking matter.
Also, crazy to think that >50% of our scholarship roster were 4-5*.
I saw a week or two ago that 247 has some kind of talent index for every team. Basically ranks their entire roster talent wise minus attrition. Auburn was around 8th or 9Th if I remember correct. We got talent. If Gus does nothing else right, the mfer could recruit.
-
Are you not entertained? That was total domination from start to finish. I'm sure there are some minor things to quibble over, but MSU will still need a proctologist to remove Gus's footwear from their lower GI tract.
Gus is spouting some nonsense lately, though: “He did a good job,†Malzahn said of Whitlow. “And we tried to give other people the ball —you saw running backs…. We tried to let some other running backs touch it. We understand the long-haul journey and the volume of hits and everything that goes with it with running backs.†Who is this guy wearing a visor on Auburn's sideline?
Clemson looked imminently beatable. I liked Mack's decision to go for two, but the play ran too wide and too far in reverse to be successful.
Otherwise, yesterday's slate was mostly yawn-inducing. Surprising the Arky/A&M game was the most dramatic.

I liked Mack' decision only I think (like the NFL) you want to isolate a quick slant or pick play which never gets called when a game's in question. A run play is an okay option for a last ditch shot at a field goal, but you don't run your favorite play that your opponent prepares for all week...not for the nuts.
-
I'm on the other end. Hated the call to go for it. Said his team was spent. Bull shit. You played the straight up for 4 quarters. You're no more spent than they are. Take your shot. Who knows? They didnt run you over for 3 hours. Why do you assume they suddenly will dominate you now. Weak sauce.

I have nothing about which to be unhappy in regard to AU.
1) Auburn did not play particularly well, honestly, but still thunder-clubbed Mississippi State. Evident from the first snap that AU was the better team. No bumble-butting around, nothing but "we are going to kick your ass and make you like it." Confident, business-like. Yeah there were fumbles. So there are things to work on, but if anybody had told you 56-16 what would you have said? For the record, I refuse to acknowledge the pissant score with less than a minute left when they had their starters in against players who weren't even on the media roster. I also laughed heartily at their bulbous Bert-looking coach claiming they "made a few mistakes" and didn't change their gameplan at halftime because it wasn't that the plan wasn't working, they just weren't executing. Still, the passing game looked much better. There were routes in the middle of the field for the first time since 2004. I don't think State is a bad team (they will give LSU trouble and they'll beat A&M) but they were not prepared to get hit in the face.
I do have some complaints overall.
a) Who the hell was Nebraska for that to be some sort of defining win for Ohio State. South Alabama would have beaten the Hushers in Lincoln if they'd known how to win. The Jags looked like the better team then and Nebraska's done nothing to remove that perception since. The clowns LOST to Colorado, beat the same Northern Illinois team a shitty Vandy just annihilated and squeaked by a significantly mediocre Illinois. They're hot garbage and hardly some massive test for the overrated Suckeyes.
b) Tua Turdblower. What? I don't understand the hype. I don't understand the foregone conclusion that he's this franchise resurrecting generational talent that's going to revolutionize the NFL and bring the tanking Dolphins back to relevance. He builds up stats against creampuffs. I swear, I could complete the slants and screens he does to receivers that consistently have a five-yard cushion. They're always running almost alone on his deep balls. He's hardly ever pressured. I just don't think he deserves the constant knob-jobbing he gets from the press. And one other thing. I've seen them run that stupid slant/pick play for a 70-yard TD in almost every single game. Can somebody PLEASE catch on to that? If you take that motherfucker's head off and knock him out of his cleats when he strays his narrow ass out in the middle of the field, that would put an end to that.
c) For the record, I like Jalen Hurts a lot better, but I have the same complaint about him. I think he's currently a better QB than Tinkle Trotterfish is, but I haven't seen either do anything but pad the statline against teams that are no better than the WORST team on Auburn's schedule so far.
d) Clempson. That turtle-turd coach of theirs is lucky. North Carolina was the better team. And NC isn't very good. Clempson will hurdle the rest of the gruesome ACC and make it back into the playoffs, but this isn't the same kind of team they've had before. Just not good. If Mack Brown hadn't called the dumbest two-point play in the history of the game, they might have lost.
e) Harbaugh is still a losing proposition for Michigan. Don't care what the Wolverines did yesterday. Leach is a clown show. I think he's reached the end of his career and burning his players as "fat and dumb" when he's the one with the problem is a really bad look.
f) A&M. They're going to shit on our strength of schedule. My guess is they lose a minimum of four more games this season. 6-6? That's what you pay Dumbo Fisher 84 kabillion dollars to do? That pack of overhyped butt rangers would have lost to Arkansas if the Hog coach wasn't dumber than a sack of toast. Call a timeout on a fourth down play with the game on the line and come up with THAT discombobulated travesty? A second straight 0-8 SEC campaign is looking more likely than not. If they don't beat Kentucky after an off week, I'd wager that's their destiny. That would make Arky 1-23 in the SEC over the last three seasons, the one a one-point miracle over the last of the cheater Ole Miss seasons.
g) Polls. Why in the bubbling yellow hell is Notre Dame still in the Top Ten? And Texass 11th? Why is Michigan in the Top 25? Why are there four Pac12 teams in the poll? I hate polls.

I rewatched a little of our game. We got some really good breaks on penalties that kept our drives alive. Yeah, that's part of the game, but without a couple of those, we punt.
I wonder how that would have affected the overall momentum.
Just to nit-pick...

They also gave MSU a fumble after the receiver had gone down, rolled onto his back, gotten back up, graduated from college, gotten a job, gotten married, had kids, retired, had grandkids and yelled at some kids to get off his lawn.
And then they upheld that travesty on review. We could have let that derail our momentum.

Liked! I laughed a little.

I'm concerned mostly with our secondary in coverage giving up the big play. I forget who it was that got beat at the endzone. Even though the ball was overthrown, if wew do that shit against bama, Fuga or LSshoe, it's as good as a TD. Also, I don't see how in the hell we get a push against that offensive line of Fuga. Those SOBs weigh well over 300 a piece and our dline is somewhat smaller (maybe our quickness will overcome). Fuga's RB is the real deal, and bama will give us problems. LSshoe, well who the hell have they played? They do look like real contenders for the CFB champions this year. I truly believe they will push in bama's shit. Fuga, still up in the air.
Bo is improving but he is not polished. Receivers did a damn good job. RB did well too, as did the Oline.
SP has improved immensely.
I'm happy with the way we won the game.
Ona side note, Clemson ain't shit.

While I was totally pissed off at that one, it has no bearing on penaltlies artificially sustaining OUR drives.
Without a couple of well placed penalties, our drives would have failed. When we play a team that does not commit those timely penalties, will we be able to sustain drives in the same manner?

Creed. "Ever to conquer, never to yield." I believe it pisses off the players more than us which, in turn, motivates them.

Tua folded against uga and Clemson last year. They got pressure on him. I agree - he’s vey good when all is ideal around him and he has that nfl crop of wrs to throw to. When he gets hit some and has to bail? He looks not so good.

Ever occur to people that penalties are penalties for a reason? Most of the time they actually have an effect on a play. Maybe miss state should cheat less.
As as far as the fumbles go, miss state was as aggressive as I’ve ever seen to the tune of selling out all else on d to punch the ball out. I haven’t seen a team do it to that degree that much in a long time.

The UGA and Bama teams later in the schedule that look so daunting aren't much different overall than those we beat in 2017.
LSU hasn't played anyone which is to their detriment. Gonna be a test especially Baton Rouge but I think we can hang.
We need typical clock eating drives to limit their number of possessions. (Think Oregon 2010...that bunch scored in about 90 seconds with every possession except for that one time.)
But next up is Florida.
One at a time.
This schedule is brutal but has sort of graduated by degree of difficulty.
The off week seems to be coming at just the right time too.

This has nothing to do with what I said. On one third down play, we come up five yards short. Except they tackle Boobee out of bounds. Now we have a first down instead of punting. That was a gift, not earned. If a good team eliminates those types of penalties, can we really make enough first downs to compete?
I find it to be a concern. Not a huge one, but a concern none the less.
-

We were 6 of 10 on third down. Basically did anything we wanted regardless of the down. Did State see something on a prior down that allowed them to stop us a few times?
No doubt but we took their lunch money kicked them in the balls and ran over their slew footed, slobbering, grunting, imbecilic beast.

Got to drink beer and talk
music, booze, football with Snags. He's not ready for some of those categories.
I like the attitude of this team. The defense seems unsatisfied and the offense seems to be getting better every game. Both sides of the ball seem confident without coming off as cocky.
I think they can win big.

The first level of the defense is nasty. The second level is not far behind.
We are developing a chip on our collective shoulders and I like it.

Personal fouls on 3rd down - yes stupid and nothing to do with the outcome of a play. But those are the exception not the rule. Most penalties have everything to do with sometimes WHY A play didn’t gain more. Holding, PI, block in back. Many of those penalties MSU committed were exactly why we were stopped. Take them away and we still club them to death. Quit worrying. Our concern should be holding onto the ball tighter. Teams are gonna see what MSU did (punch the ball) and attempt it.

Gonna take a truckload for some of us. I will admit that I am starting to believe this season. Starting.

I will admit I feel a lot better about going into Gusty Gaytahville than I did at the start of the season. They look very beatable after a pathetic early season schedule, while we seem to be improving every week.
The D has been as advertised. Salty, veteran bunch. Still think they're missing that quarterback getter afterer that can burn it off the edge, but overall, you gotta' love what they've done.
I see a couple of things that have changed on offense. The line, which was, well...not good last year and really, the first couple of games this season, has become a solid unit and are run blocking much better and keeping folks off of Nix. That will be the key Saturday, IMO. Gaytah does one thing well and that's get after the pass thrower.
Also, with a healthy group of receivers, who have a great mix of size and speed, it seems someone got in Malzahn's ear and told him the middle of the field is a place we might want to tap into. We're now seeing those slants and crossing patterns we've all complained about being missing from the passing game. It just looks to me like Malzahn has opened things up in all areas of the O and teams really have a lot to prepare for, which wasn't the case early on.
-
JHS Observations: Saturday night was hotter than a Bushman's balls. JHS was not quite at 100% capacity because MSU simply didn't travel. Otherwise, that stadium was as loud and crazy as I've heard it in a long time. I think part of it was excitement over what's going on with this team. The other may be that there won't be another game there for over a month. But overall, I'd put that game night atmosphere up against anyone in the country.
My Get off my Lawn observation continues to be the Mega-Transformers-Jumbotron XL 6000. I get Fan-Cam, which they have going 84% of the game. That's fine and gives everyone a cheap thrill and a chance to do that flossy dance thing in front of thousands. But when the band is playing, please, please, pleeeease shut the fuck up.

Gatah is down to 6 olinemen. If brown and Davidson can’t put trask on his ass early and often in this one, they won’t be able to against anyone. Their OL is bad. No real run threat either. On paper it’s strength vs weakness.

The dot I am a gay twerker that has no balls!!!! I also have no idea how to use the quote function to post stories, so I annoy the piss out of others. I like male genatalia in and around my mouth. always puts out a piece on how former AU players that transferred out did that week. This one caught my eye.
Tyler Queen, West Georgia TE: Started at tight end but did not record a stat during West Georgia’s 44-10 loss to Florida Tech.
Season: one reception for 1 yard, one carry for 10 yards.

And zero HAAAY QUEENS from Sani

Hey, wait just a damn minute. That's not what I wrote. I would never misspell "male genitalia".

It’s taken you 5 years to figure out how to spell it?

Just a note:
Hback Harold Joiner didn't play Saturday.
Tight End Luke Deal returned after long rehab from knee injury.
Normally we start seeing some discussion about redshirting by the 4th or 5th game.

Yeeeeaahh....he's day to day. We'll look at that and see where it is later in the week.

There's no doubt about that

I'm not ready to stand up here and say..... well....anything.

Didn't Joiner take a RS last year?

Yes, he's listed as a RFr. His stats show he's played in 4 games so it looks like he did sit this one out, for whatever reason. Probably banged up because with the way the rotation has been going, he was most likely up for those carries in the 4th that DJ Williams got. However, glad to see him get some totes because he looks like he's going to be a good one.

General Observations/Ramblings: Being an old dude like I am, having Florida on the schedule brings back some memories. Growing up, Florida was a fixture on Auburn's schedule. I just saw a piece on the dot I am a gay twerker that has no balls!!!! I also have no idea how to use the quote function to post stories, so I annoy the piss out of others. I like male genatalia in and around my mouth. that pointed out the two teams having played every year, from 1927-2002. My parents had some great friends that lived down in Pensacola who were Gator grads, and for quite a few years we would go down that weekend and stay with them. Good times....yeah....good times. Until the SEC broke up into East and West divisions, you could count on us playing Tennessee early in the year, Florida around Halloween, then FUGA and Bama to finish up the season.
Another change, one which I don't care for, is there was always a bye week for both Auburn and Bama before the Iron Bowl. That seemed to hype it up even more because fans had two weeks to think about and break down the game. The problem was having to go to that shit stain called Legion Field to play the game. SEC Network is doing a show I believe called Saturday in the South. (Something like that) They had a whole segment on the Iron Bowl and Pat Dye getting it to Auburn. One thing the show made no bones about was despite the fact that the tickets were supposed to be a 50/50 split in Legion, it was clearly a Bama home game every year. I've said it before and will probably still feel this way til the day I die. For quite a few reasons, the 1989 Iron Bowl is the greatest sporting event I've ever attended. In the aforementioned show, one of the Bama players they interviewed said the QB would try and audible but it looked like he was just mouthing some words. I do believe the first Ted Nugent concert I went to was the only thing louder than Jordan Hare Stadium that day.
Back on the AU/UF rivalry, to point out how good it has been, Auburn leads the series 43-38-2. Here's to making it 44 this weekend.
Ramble off.

I was lucky enough to have friends that at the time had the Skybox on the 50 yard line and got the invite to sit in there for that 1989 game. When I sat down, I was straddling the 50 yard line...and there was prime rib at halftime. Best Auburn experience I have ever had. The only drawback was that I couldn't truly appreciate the crowd noise.

I've said this before but the thing that was almost surreal was that it could be early in the 2nd quarter, Bama with the ball on their own 32. Second down and 7. 10-7 ball game. You know, when everyone is kind of settled in taking in the game.
You absolutely couldn't talk to the person next to you. No use. No way you could hear anything they had to say. Everything about that day was just years pent up frustration for Auburn fans being unleashed. Alabama was NOT going to win that day, no matter what.

The blue haze in the second half was a sight to see too, from all the shakers mixed with the delicious bourbinz coming out of the student section that day.

Sad for me to think that I was risking my ass getting shot off in the Philippines while some of you were there cutting good bourbon with fucking Coke.

50 yard line. ROW 1.
Not the best seats in the house, but I was there!
And yes, we were LOUD!

My sister was there in the student section. I wish I could have made it, but work trumps all.

See you kids at Hardees in the morning.
