"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

You can just about spell his name "dave mathews" and it would be the same.

Say what you must and hate how you will, but I went and saw DMB last week up in Alphatucky at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, and I still maintain that they are one the best live shows out there.  They are some musically talented muthafuckas, from the best drummer of all time (Carter Beaufort) to the new guys in the brass section.  Amazing musicians.

Actually, any artist that sounds the exact same in the studio and on stage is talented.  His voice is strong enough to carry over the awesomeness of the instruments of his bandmates, and is always on key.  The guy can sing.  I recommend his live sessions with Tim Reynolds (just the two of them, and their guitars) as proof.

And you are certainly entitled to your opinion.  Although I tend to agree with you on the later stuff, vs. what they put out in the early to mid 90's.

 time...there's plenty out there, but this is a good clip of CB beatin' the shit outta the drums.  In this vid, he does his patented blurred arms move at 1:23.

You're missing my point.  They are certainly gifted musicians, as that clip proves.  Solos are quite different than the songs that they play, though.  These guys are wasting their gifts to play in a lame band.

No, I get your point.  CB does that kind of thing throughout each set he plays with the band.  Therefore, he's using his talents appropriately.  I think it's great that he mixes up his drum beats in live songs...it's like he never plays the same show twice.  What you hear on the studio album is not what's presented live.  This is not anything out of the ordinary for musicians, but I would hardly call his performances a waste.  If I were a musician, I'd much rather use my talents to play in a band and make great songs...instead of playing by myself.

Your arguments are typically better then the ridiculous stretch of the imagination posted here.  I'm not sure what you're listening to, but DM is not into yodeling.  Unless there's some underground black market shit out there that I haven't heard.

However, I've been known to sing along with "Time After Time" when no one is looking.

Cyndi did a song about chick masturbation.  She earned points in my book once someone told me what it was about.  Not musician related but you gotta' love chicks playing with the little man in the boat.

I still think you're missing my point.  DMB doesn't write "great songs".  They (well, Dave really) write schlock.  Lame schlock.  These musicians, and I agree that they are very talented, are wasting their talents playing Dave's lame music when they could be authoring mind-blowing, face-melting (ok, the hyperbole is a bit much) music with a quality songwriter.

I'm not advocating that these guys all go solo and never play with another musician.

I am in no way a DMB fan.  Like Wes, I appreciate they are all great musicians.  While I can't stand their sound, I acknowledge they have quite a faithful following and would imagine they're knocking down a large stack of cabbage.

I see this is going the way of the previous DMB arguments that War Eagle!!! participated in.

I think this, then, is the bone of contention.  You think it's schlock, I think the lyrics fit most songs they're written for.  But for me, the music is what sells me.  I guess it comes down to how each individual interprets art...and we interpret the finished product differently.  I'm happy to hear that you think they are each individually talented, however.

I am in no way a DMB fan.  Like Wes, I appreciate they are all great musicians.  While I can't stand their sound, I acknowledge they have quite a faithful following and would imagine they're knocking down a large stack of cabbage.

I read two weeks ago that they earn over $500,000 in just merchandise sales alone...and that's at each show, at the official DMB merchandise vendor booth-thingy that travels with them to each show.
