I expected this to be about a Law & Order episode featuring a former, never-turned-his-head Auburn defensive back.

I am disappoint.

I'm always willing to give things a chance.

I've got to say, however, that sometimes I think people live on completely different planets than I do.

I gave every song at least one minute before I went here.  I'd like to find something new and interesting. Still looking.

She has a decent voice but not anything outstanding. It's derivative of a hundred other folksy singers.

The songs were essentially indistinguishable from each other.  All had the same basic structure and uneven flow. They often lacked melodic hooks.

Even her tonal bends were repetitive.  It's also very reliant on what I consider to be other people's sound.  It's like Stevie Nicks and Taylor Swift had a baby and it was raised by Edie Brickell and the Indigo Girls.

Bad Luck wasn't the worst song I've ever heard. But it wasn't what I'd call memorable.  I've already forgotten it, actually.

The absolute worst part of it all was that almost every single song on that list started out with some weird distortion, scratching, screeching, plinking or plunking.  None of those sounds had anything to do with the song that came after, they were just bars of odd noise.  No purpose to that.

So.  Since we can't/shouldn't talk about politics I'd like you to sell me on this.  What about this makes it fantastic?

EDIT:
Or you know what?  Don't sell me.  You like it.  Your choice.  I am curious as to what part of it you consider fantastic, but that's not my parade.

Vocalist for the New Pornographers, primarily, but this is her 5th solo album, I think.
For K's benefit: I enjoy her lyrics and vocal tone.  I like that she's an actual musician.  As a fan of her group, I like to find her "sound" woven into the band dynamic and finding the areas where she soars when allowed to write by herself.  Specific to this album, I like:
1) The quirky melody of Hell-On
2) The fluid chorus of Last Lion of Albion
3) The story of Sarah and her various facets
4) The girl-group homage of Bad Luck
5) The autobiography of Curse of the I-5 Corridor
6) The oddball imagery in Gumball
7) The intimate duet vocals/lyrics of Sleep all Summer

Diff'rent strokes.  I'm just leading horses to water, drink or not.

Music is very personal. Why there are so many genres and artists.

I hate opera.

I hate jazz.

I hate most rap and rhythm and blues.

But I love blues. Love classic rock.

I like some folk artists so I don't hate this above. Also prob don't like it like you either.

One of my favorite bands is Lord Huron. Most prob think "who?"  So I get it.

Like K said you do you. I ain't gonna knock it.

Is this the point where I mention my appreciation for KISS: Carnival of Souls (which even they semi-disavow?) and encourage you to drink from that toilet?

I'm like GF and others.  Certain music just works for me.  Other doesn't.  But I love music.

I abhor everything about the "country" music of today.  Documented.  Flip side, I enjoy zydeco and some bluegrass.

I don't mind jazz if I'm in a spa getting a happy ending.  Even if it's a home spa.

Like most disco but there's a limit to that.  Techno?  Nope.

Like rock, but there are limits there too.  Gwar is at the outer rim of what I can tolerate.  Speed/thrash?  Nope.

Big band and that era has a place.  I'll sometimes chill on the 40s channel just to recalibrate.  I even listen to Louis Prima sometimes because I like his flow.

Rap?  There was a sweet spot where there was just enough rawness mixed with rhyme and beats to work for me.  Most of the new stuff stinks. They've confused vulgarity with creativity.  "Imma blow my load in yo Oreo, blast some skeeze in yo weaves, bitch, open them gums and taste the .... "  That's just not lyrically solvent.

What doesn't work for me?  Skiffledy bee doo riffing by Dave Matthews.  Noodling.  Ugh.  Folk music that's essentially just playing music and singing a story.  A song -- to me -- needs to have basic parts.  Intro, bridge, harmony, hook, etc.  It's why I have a hard time with stuff like Le Mis but not as much with Grease or a Disney movie.  Just because you sing something doesn't make it a song.

I'm not sure there is any good music any longer.  We're in an musical desert now, IMO.  When people like Garth Brooks, Taylor Swift, Chance, and pretty much any random band from the last Hangout Fest are the stars?  We've lost the ability to write good music.  Unless we haven't.

Anyway, I'd rather talk about and listen to music anyway.

I have to disagree...bigly....here.  There is a metric fuckton of great new music being made these days.  It takes some effort to find and even more to sift through, so if you're looking on terrestrial radio or any "music" television channel you're not going to find anything worth a shit.
