Best drummer?
« on: November 04, 2011, 02:37:34 PM »
I was on my way back home on my 1hr drive from Columbus GA this morning when I reminded myself of a curiosity and a possible Tiger X thread. I heard a song on the radio from RUSH and was curious to what people thought the best drummers were/are. I'm not really a huge RUSH fan but Neil Peart can play the shit outta the drums.

My top 4 list but not limited to and no real particular order:

1) Neil Peart - RUSH
2) Lars Ulrich - Metallica
3) Danny Carey - Tool
4) Phil Collins

What's the criteria?

Because I'm going with Flo Mounier or Zach Hill.

No real criteria, just your personal opinion. It don't even have to be a band that you like all that much just a drummer that leaves an good impression. There are many good drummers out there but there are some that are just damn good.

I'll throw Carter Beauford in the mix as well.  I haven't been a fan of Dave Matthews for a while, but Beauford absolutely made that band work.  Brilliant drum tracks for Dave's folk songs.

I agree, he was the only reason that I would think about maybe listening to Matthews on the radio, but still a good chance I would prefer a whiny ass country song instead.

I would put Patrick Carney up there.  All those you listed.   John Bonham, Keith Moon, Jeff Beck, Phil Collins, Chad Smith, Travis Barker, Dave Grohl, Mike Portnoy, Nicko McBrian, Glenn Kotche, Meg White, Vinnea Paul, Ringo Starr, Butch Trucks (I'm partial), ahh shit, dude from the Stones.....Watts?  The guy from Korn/Slipknot, Dave Silveria, Tommy Aldridge...........too many to name.  It's like saying who is the top guitarist, it's really had to compare.

Yeah, I think THS was hinting at this a little. Different drummers work for different genres. I forgot all about Tommy Aldridge. The dude is badass too.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."
