Enlighten us, oh wise one...

You don't suppose maybe Gus was just trying to give Mosley a little pat on the back, and a "go get em Tiger" via the press do you?   Just a little shot in the arm before he sends him in to the Arena against one of the best defenses in the nation?

Or maybe he should have simply told the truth all the way around: "Look, Trotter won the battle on the practice field.  We thought he gave us the best chance to win.  He's a fighter, and a leader.  But, when the lights came on, he froze up.  We're playing Clint just because it was time for a change and we're hoping for the best."

Or do you all think they looked at Trotter and Mosley back in August, and said, "Yeah, Mosley's really got it all, and he's beat the shit out of Trotter on every rep, but fuck it, lets play Trotter, the pornstache looks cool!"

You seriously ask, after those couple of statements that amount to little more  than mere puffery, "why Did they start Trotter to begin with?"

That's easy to see now.   We'd be at least 6-1 with him.

Yet he was a waste of time according to many AU fans.  After all we were running 3 deep with a Jr, a RS Soph and a stud Frosh.  None of which could WIN the job outright.

I didn't realize the phrase "neck and neck" meant that one person beat the shit out of the other...

So, you think Coaches always tell it exactly the way it is?  They close practice for a reason.  They said neck and neck, but who the fuck knows.  I know this for a fact, they put Trotter out there because for whatever their reasoning, they figured him to give us the best chance of winning.  It's that simple.

The coach rhetoric in the papers is meaningless.  I mean this "he has some gunslinger in him" bit caused someone to ask "then why'd they ever start Trotter" as if to insinuate they were never "neck and neck" and Mosley has all these wonderful traits they simply ignored, and Trotter had none.    I have no idea who did what in practice, if they really believed it was neck and neck, if they were just saying that to push Trotter, or motivate Mosley.

Are you getting this?

Are you getting this?

You asked if all of the people in this thread thought that Moseley beat the shit out of Trotter in practice; I wasn't sure why, seeing as most people in this thread seem to be of the opinion that it was neck and neck.  It was particularly confusing because your first reply was to Sani, who expressly stated that he thought they must have been neck and neck.

Sure, coaches don't kiss and tell about everything in the media; if Moseley had performed like a one-legged retard (see Chris Todd), I'm sure the coaches would have said that he put up a "good effort" and that it was a "close race," or whatever sugar-coated phrases they wanted to use.

But when you've got multiple coaches and players stating for the record that it was a close call, in addition to the fact that the starting quarterback wasn't named until 16 days before the first game, then the information that we are given does tend to indicate that it was neck and neck.

Now, we can theorize all day about whether "coachspeak" was used, to what degree it was used, and how we should interpret it, but as you said, the practices were closed; this "coachspeak" and the actions of the coaches (e.g., not naming a starter until late August) are the only indicators we have.  I don't see any reason to lambaste everyone by telling them how stupid they are for thinking that it was neck and neck when, in actuality, you don't know for sure either.  The only thing we have to go off of are the coaches' statements and their actions, both of which seem to indicate that it was a close race.

Agree with the verbose lawyer (Well, the more verbose lawyer).

It's not like we're just now hearing it was neck and neck all along. It's not like Auburn fans weren't a veritable 50/50 split on team Moseley or team team Trotter. It's not like we were hearing that Cam was "neck and neck" with Trotter last year 16 days before the season started.

All indications, both what we've heard from coaches and players, as well as what we've seen in the actual games, is that Moseley, at the very least, is as capable, and appears to be more composed than Trotter in live game situations.

At first I didn't believe them that it was neck and neck.  Now, yeah, I do.  I think they chose Trotter on the tad bit more experience he had in the offense.  And, I think they knew he'd struggle a bit, but hoped the early schedule would help him understand game speed.  Instead he become more and more afraid to pull the trigger.    Actually have to believe now that IF Mosley was really neck and neck, and he's the cockier of the two, and will go out their and at least make decisions and try to make a play, we'll be ok.

I never argued shit.  I said RWS' question based on the rhetoric was fucking stupid.  It was.    VandyVol starts formulating a response before he's understood what he's reading.

RWS?  Me formulating responses without reading?

Sorry, but if your response was to RWS, then you didn't make that very clear by responding to a post written by Sani.  I mean, I know Sani's crazy, but he's not Bammer crazy, so they can't be the same person.

No idea other than I had heard that they were neck and neck and Trotter had more time on campus.  Gonna be a hell of a trial by fire for him though.

Are you that stupid?

And then there was the response to WE!!!, which asked "do you all think" that Moseley "beat the shit" out of Trotter.  Aside from RWS's post, there hasn't been anyone who even remotely indicated that Moseley beat the shit out of Trotter at any point in time.

So, yet again, I was confused as to who was being included in the "you all" category, especially when the initial reply was directed toward Sani, who never stated that Moseley beat Trotter hands down, and the second reply was directed to WE!!, who, to my knowledge, has also never stated that Moseley outperformed Trotter beyond the shadow of a doubt.  That would be why I formulated a response which pointed out that most people on this thread thought the two had been neck and neck prior to the season.

I formulates 'em likes I sees 'em.

I finally see the disconnect here.

My fault.  I was  apparently  :pwnd: by teh quote function.  My original response of "Are you that stupid?" was supposed to be to this:

With all of that said, why the fuck did they start Trotter in the first place?

Sorry Sani!
