Title: Sean starting for San Jose State
Post by: Godfather on September 29, 2015, 12:31:12 PM
Didn't really know that this wasn't a given, but Gus just announced Sean would be the starter for San Jose State.   Said the decision between him and Jeremy will be week to week.

Well, they're both day to day.

I saw an article that just said Gus wasn't asked on his radio show and he didn't address the starter either.  I was the same way thinking it has to be a given.  Admit that I was holding my breath a little thinking, "There's no way he would.....NAAAAA"  "Would he?"  If he said JJ, I would have to say:

Something is NOT right at Auburn!

Here's the thing I read some of the comments & articles on al.com (I know, I know) about how it was stupid to put Sean White out there that we should stick with JJ.

Are these people watching the same game as I am?

I’m not sure with JJ we would have even been in the redzone 4 times, fuck the fact we didn’t score.

Yeah, you ride White until he proves he's not the man.  Heard someone call in this morning blasting Malzahn for the red zone play calling going back to the Bama game.  Some people just look for shit to be pissed off about.  The next caller nailed it.  In the Bama game, Gus Malzahn didn't make a bad pass to Duke in the endzone.  Gus Malzahn didn't drop that TD pass in the end zone against Bama either.  Sammie did.  Gus didn't throw the INT Saturday.  Sean did.  Gus didn't snap the ball over Sean's head at the goal line Saturday.  Golson did.

Just execute on a few of those plays Saturday night and the whole mood of the Auburn nation is different.

Yessir.

JJ starts that game and its over much quicker. And not even close. And you probably see a lot more quit in OTHER players.

Exactly.

LSU got out of hand as soon as JJ threw the ball backwards. The defense was going against an extremely physical offense, and they had no reason to keep throwing their bodies at LF when they knew JJ would be shitting the bed.

If Miss State goes up 7 and JJ throws an immediate interception, that game turns into another blowout.

It may very well be that we can improve with White over the course of the season. But it's a long season and it's not out of the realm we see JJ some. Anybody's guess how he responds but I have to pull for the poor guy. It was mentioned on the OD, I think by Del Greco that he might eventually transfer and that might be his best option. Maybe a change of scenery will do the trick. Either way...I'll pull for him.

I could see Johnson transferring, he still has a redshirt year. Bobby Patrino might like to have him.

And this is the kind of thought that Gus needs to get out of his head. The emotional side. The pity party.

See, I'm getting the sense that Gus had broken through that mindset. Almost every play there were three or four guys coming in and out on offense. As a matter of fact, Gus didn't run the hurry very often. I don't think that had much to do with Sean being an SEC virgin but had more to do with Gus playing as people as he could to nail down his go to guys.

^^This is concerning to me too.

I love the kid. He says the right things in interviews, stays out of trouble, says yes sir and no sir. He was raised right and just has a nice personality.

I think Gus and Lash love him too. And there's probably a bit of stubbornness their in wanting to prove they can win with this all star can't miss prospect.

Whether it's pride, love, stubbornness or injury-- I bet we will see JJ qb AU again for more than just a package on Saturday. And I think he needs the work.

Won't surprise me to see Gus use 2 qb's this year IF JJ gets the snakes out of his head.

Regardless, I'm pulling for JJ and hope he does great whenever and wherever he plays. But I also hope Sean continues to improve and we don't need to go 2 qb.

I hope we see JJ in mop up duty in the 4th with AU up by 35+. Unless White is screwing up or absolutely ineffective, it should be his show from this point forward.  I was as big a JJ fan as any but you'd have to have snakes in your head as a coach to put him back in with any game still hanging in the balance.

I'm the first to use the "snakes in the head" reference on here and I use it sparingly. As usual, you read something that someone with much more talent writes and you pounce on it. Run it into the damn ground, even.

Give my a snakes in the head a damn rest, or else. I'm tired of this shit. And tired of this town.

We get up 3 TD, I bet we see JJ. At least in the second half. And I pray that we don't hear boos.

He needs the reps and needs to get some kind of confidence. We definitely need to be able to count on him some because he could be next man up at any point. Smith and Wallace would be the next candidates and both are likely serviceable but I don't think they can make the throws JJ is capable of.

They aren't going to burn Queen's red shirt at this point, even if it meant losing every game left. So, I'm expecting to see JJ this weekend. I hope to see him. If not, it probably means a close game.

They go about 285 on the D-line with the exception of a small DE.  Problem is, there's a lot of Samoans on the roster.  We don't match up with Samoans.  Thank God Hawaii isn't on the schedule.

And then all of a sudden like..... Pfffffffwaaaaaahhhh.

I remember. But no way it's the same.  The last two years under Chizik, it was get hit in the mouth, I'm taking my ball and going home.  They quit!!! What happened under Chizik has never happened and hopefully never will again.  This team is simply searching for chemistry.  The right combinations.  The right play calling.  They out gained for 3/4 or 77.82% of the game, out played MSU.  Just couldn't get it all together and take control.  It's not gloom and doom.  Saturday is a great opportunity to get some identity.  To get some momentum heading to Lexington after some rest.
