After tonight, week A will be in the books. Of course, too early to tell much and in the NFL, losses don't mean much until they start piling up. News and notes:
* I don't recall more hype for a franchise than Cleveland had this off season and leading all the way up to.....a 30 point opening loss to a bad Tennessee team.
* Brady=GOAT. Holy schnikies, he was surgical. Plus, they added Antonio Brown. Here's the thing. The Pats under Bellychick, are a no-nonsense, do it our way or the highway franchise. I have no idea how Brown can go from a total clown-ass bitch, to being a model citizen in one week. I don't think it can happen. If it does, look out. If he continues being a punk, they'll just send him packing, make no comment and move on.
* My Dirty Birds got bitch slapped. Next, they get Philly. 0-2 to start the season is not what I had in mind.
* The Dolphins? Yeeeeeessshh!!!! Can't recall an NFL team losing 59-10.
* Yes, it was the Giants, but Dak showed them why he's gonna' get his money. With all the great QB's in the Cowboys' history, he is only the second one to throw for over 400 yards.

tick-toc..it's da Gold
It’s time for another non-football related discussion involving Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr., a conversation Beckham invited with a watch.
Beckham sported an expensive, custom-made watch while playing in Cleveland’s Week 1 humbling loss to the Tennessee Titans. According to Tom Withers of the AP (https://apnews.com/c628d0a859234aa2bf3ba0574387db86), the watch is a $250,000 Richard Mille timepiece and it was visible on his wrist during the game.
The NFL has no rule against wearing jewelry during games. There is a prohibition against extraneous hard objects, however, and the NFL will speak with Beckham at an unspecified time about the expensive accouterment.
It’s a puzzling decision to wear such a valuable item with no functional purpose other than sheer vanity during a game. It’s time for that to stop, Mr. Beckham…

Why not? It’s the falcons.
- fins players now wanting to leave. I don’t get it. Weren’t you the ones who got beat by 50 points? Who wants you?
- Dak is badass when he wants to be and continues to be Mullen’s legacy as a head coach.
- AB is a sociopath. That is all.
- tenn/clev game was close very late and the wheels came off. Mayfield and his receivers are NOT remotely in sync. That was turrrrible.

If the seats are paid, does it matter if anybody's sitting in them?
In my worthless opinion, a lot of the empty spaces you saw yesterday are because it was 1,000,000 degrees in most of those places. Noon kickoff in Charlotte in early September? A million degrees. If I'm going to die of immolation, I'd prefer to do it somewhere else.
Five of the games -- three of which were highlighted in that article for non-attendance -- had kickoff temperatures over 90.
No thanks.

Agreed. As I said in another thread, we had seats in the Club Level for Tulane. 6:30 kick. Total shade. It was miserable. Got the same seats this Saturday. I ain't going near Auburn.

HOF'er Jerry Rice, thinks AB was playing everybody the whole time and wanted to be in New England from the start.
I don't know about that. It's a possibility and I might believe some of it if he hadn't quit on the Steelers last season with a chance to make the playoffs. The signing within hours of his release from Da' Raidahs does sound fishy, though.
-
Any kneelers this season?

I can totally see the Pats telling him, "Look, we won't trade for you, but if you get cut, we will sign you."
In fact, I wouldn't be shocked to see Gronk come back by week 6, either.

Didn't watch but caught some of the lowlights. Was it play calling, the offensive line or Cam? Was he really hurried to the point that he couldn't complete 5 yard checkdowns?

First, the O-line is Ah-Trosh-Us. B.) The play calling had him firmly in the pocket 95.3% of the time. No scrambles, roll outs, designed runs etc. Last...I'm pretty much done with Cam and the Panthers. Never liked them anyway and only slightly pulled for them because of him. Now, he's just become a clown. His pregame outfit for last night has people comparing him to Thelma and Louise characters.
But, I guess he gives footballs to kids. So there's that.

The OL is bad. Not sure if it could start at Auburn.
The offensive game game plan is worse. No movement from Cam at all. Standing like a statue in a rapidly deteriorating pocket. The one time they tried to let him run the play was poorly designed and poorly executed. Took two steps and had three people hitting him.
But I’ve got to say I can’t recall ever seeing anyone as miserable as cam appears to be. He plays like he hates being there. I think part of it is the team’s transition to a “we are going to play defense and run a caveman 1970s offense†model. No chances. Every play is conservative. He can’t be himself. So he dresses like a clown.

he has the talent...shame he acts like a child though.

Take Brady, Brees, Rapelsburger out of the equation because they're winding it down. But if I was starting an NFL team up, Wilson would be my pick under center. Some might say Mahomes, but he's got one year under his belt. I hate Russell Wilson with a passion....because he's so damn good in finding a way to beat your ass every time.

I get the impression that the NFL has quietly tried to steer all attention away from any of that, if it is still going on. I imagine even the media is taking a who gives a frick attitude. The only thing I've heard all season was one player, Kenny Still, running his mouth. GF can probably fill in the details better, but I think the Dolphins GM made fun of him and then shipped him off to Houston or somewhere.

I was reading a piece on Julian Edelman's very first conversation/encounter with Bill Bellychick. In it, he said he's probably had about 8 conversations with the man in 10 years. During his rookie season, he was at the training facility late one night, as was Belichick. Edelman said I saw him on the treadmill, watching film and taking notes, and he did everything he could to avoid the coach and not have to talk to him. Then later: (foxy)
“I just so happen to walk by the hot tub and coach is in the hot tub. Obviously, I came in the room to go in the hot tub. But then we made eye contact and my natural instinct was to turn around like I was gonna leave,†he said.
“But then I saw that he saw that I was in there and then he got up and got out and real, real big party foul by coach. We're supposed to have shorts on. Supposed to have shorts. But I guess at 11 o'clock, when you're the GOAT of coaching you go wherever you want, free—free ball. So I had to hide my absolute face of terror after seeing what I saw and sit in the hot tub.â€

That's why I was saying earlier that if I was starting an NFL franchise right now from scratch, he'd be my pick under center. I know several of the young guns, like MyHomie, are putting up sick numbers, but Wilson has more than enough sample size to prove he's legit.

Dinorvosaurus Turner is a good fit for McCaffery and a pedestrian QB like Allen.
He’s an awful fit for Cam. He’s a little like Gus in that he only knows how to do one moderately successful thing (West Coast, RB is the star) and has no idea what to do with an outsized talent like Cam.
To be fair, Cam would be better served to be less THE man and more A man working within the constraints of the team. But that’s not the role in which he was cast in Carolina. He’s not going to succeed in Snorv’s Dino-offense.

To be fair, Cam would be better served to be less THE man and more A man working within the constraints of the team. But that’s not the role in which he was cast in Carolina. He’s not going to succeed in Snorv’s Dino-offense.
I think you've seen the last snap of Cam in a Carolina uniform and probably anywhere else. No one wants to sign Madea, the QB.

You done lost your mind.

Cam is very much an enigma. He's a great representative for Carolina and its brand but also a huge flake that pouts under due criticism when he can't get it done.
He's maybe 30 and could play as many as five or more seasons somewhere but only as a starter with that salary.
His best year was 2015 but stats show he more or less goes from 11-5 to 6-8 from year to year. The inconsistencies seems to coincide with injuries...just can't stay healthy.
I don't think it will be Carolina. He's a difficult fit, not that any one quirk is so bad as to disqualify him.
Teams are always desperate to make the playoffs and are willing to sell out to get there.

Falcons suck. But replay sucked even worse today!

Prognosis on the Like button is 4-6 weeks. We'll know more as it starts rehab. Good news is we have plenty of other buttons and features. We should be fine. Just need to play better. We will play better.

There's no doubt about that.

The injuries can be laid at the feet of a shit OL and Mike Fucking Shula. Cam gave that franchise his best years and they couldn't get it done.

I’m not ready to stand up here and say when the like button will be back. It’s looking good in practice.

The like button is facing domestic abuse charges and word has it he's no longer with the team.

Just witnessed one of the worst personal foul...targeting calls I've ever seen. Green Bay vs. Detroit. There was a discussion about this on The Dan Patrick Show today. Replay clearly showed it was a ridiculous call. The expert ref in the booth said no way. But they refused to overturn it. Do away with replay....period.

Games like tonight are the reason I can't completely discount the whole "NFL is fixed" theory.
The incomplete pass they tagged on Kerryon was borderline. I thought it was a catch, FD and fumble out of bounds to keep the drive alive. Replay said nope, but it was close either way.
The two completely bogus "hands to the face" penalties against Detroit, though? Garbage.
One came on 3rd and 10 with Detroit up 22-13 in the fourth, keeping an eventual touchdown drive going.
The second came on third down late in the game, allowing GB to run out the clock for a game-winning field goal.
Sandwiched between those two horseshit calls was a "we didn't see no interference" miss when a Packer DB mugged a Lions receiver.
I didn't really care either way who won, but watching the game determined by referees and gifted to Aaron Rogers is pretty disgusting.

Yep. I had no dog in the fight and just wanted to watch some good foosballz. Then, the game gets decided by the refs' calls and no-calls. The discussion between Patrick and Schlereth yesterday centered around just doing away with replay and acknowledging that the game is played and ref'd by humans and we make mistakes. I know they won't do away with it but their point was that the games are slowing to a crawl and the calls aren't being overturned anyway when it's clear that it was wrong.

Green Bay notoriously gets a shit ton of ref help - esp at home.

Agreed!! That was so bogus even a Booger could sniff it out. (lame joke, so what)
I thought the same, like this game was fixed. Whether it really was or not, the point is that these kind of bad calls automatically involves the idea. Not sure what I wanted more, to see KJ win at Detroit or to watch Rogers get hammered as many times as possible. Then, the 4th qtr happens and the Refs remembered their rug money.
