Is it just me, or is HS football starting earlier every year? It's the 23rd of August and I was sitting in Rip Hewes Stadium tonight watching a 6A vs. 7A match up. Well, not much of a match. Dothan and Enterprise played for the 89th time. I think E'prise has won the last 253 of those. Make it 254. It was 31-7 midway through the 3rd when I decided an adult beverage and Sports Center were better options.
For the 19th time in the last 20 years, Dothan is teh sux. You look at them and wonder how the suckage could be at that level. Big, athletic looking team. No! They suck.
Last year, I posted early about watching Enterprise, which is about 20 miles down the road. They looked like they had all the tools. Good size, speed, nice QB etc. Rolled through the first few games. Then they faced one of the State's elite, GH's Phenix City Red Devils. Got that shit pushed in by about 50+. This year is a different looking club. They range from 270 to 325 on the O-line. They spread you out 4 and 5 wide and sling it around. The QB is a 6'1" senior who is very poised. Good arm, extremely accurate. I'd guess he'll do well at a smaller college. Fun to watch.
But ultimately, he was facing much suckage in Dothan. So, who knows? The bottom line is that football is back. I'm headed to a game tomorrow night. Whatcha' got? Who in your area looks skrong? Any D1 prospects? BTW, there were quite a few guys that came through here last year that signed with teams like Texas A&M, Mizzou, Florida etc. When I see a prospect coming, that's the game I go see.

My oldest gets to carry on the tradition of getting overlooked by every major college in America, beginning tonight in Wetumpka. Although, they don’t sit on the bench anymore. They apparently stand the whole game.
I’d get tuckered out by half.

Thx. I’m a terrible dad, I guess. But I’m not trekking up to your neck of the woods to watch him stand. He very well may play but probably not a lot. This game s the first year we’ve let him. Been too protective I guess. But he was s a pretty good baseball player and we were hoping that may pan out. There are a ton of good baseball players here.
so, his sr year makes it more difficult for him to get PT.
But, he’d better start producing soon or i’ll Put him on the street.

Actually, it looks like good strategy on the Jeff Davis coach's part since they were down 19-3. "Damn, we gettin' slapped around. Tell Montez to pop off a few rounds outside."

Yo GH. What do the Devils look like this year? Pulled up their roster on Max Preps. 131 kids playing ball this year. Jeez Louise. And being the heights and weights guy I am, they've got some freakin' monsters on that O-line. YUGE! Saw where they open in the ATL tomorrow night.

They beat Mays (Atlanta) sat night at the cam newton classic thingee 48-12. Never heard of Mays. No idea if they are good or bad or what.

I do feel like CC will beat them like a drum. Cougars are primed to make a run this year. Saturday they have James Clemens then the next Niceville comes up.

Athletically, it may wind up allowing them to finally become competitive again. On one hand, you can look at it in a sense that they can take the best athletes from both schools and make a pretty damn good squad. On the other hand, it may just be a combination of supreme suckage, to make one, bigger pile of shit.

Another note, Cullman played Jasper and won on a last second TD pass. Hell of a game! Bad news is that a WR from Jasper broke his ankle, think Prothro kind of break.

This has failed miserably in Gadsden. Most of the talent at GCHS for the last 4 years would have been zoned to play at former 4A Emma Sansom and would have likely competed for a championship 3 of the 4 years. GC is losing football talent right now because it's nearly impossible to get on the field with a 7A school which has directly led to Etowah beating GC as a 5A school in the first meetings since 2010.

Yeah, putting the combined Dothan/Northview team in 7A wouldn't be a good move. If they can't handle little ol' Enterprise they sure as hell couldn't handle the bigger boys. Their best bet is moving both down to 5A where they can beat up on the Carroll High Schools of southeast AL.

I get it. 100% behind it. You have to err on the side of safety. But a quick question:
When has a bomb threat or some other threat of violence been made beforehand, and it actually happened? Not taking it lightly, but logic tells you that if you plan to blow something/someone up....you don't warn them before you do it.
"Uh yeah, is this the principal's office? Umm...yeah okay...so there's like....a bomb or something in the building. And I'm like...gonna' blow shit up. Like.... I'm serious and stuff.....okay, bye."

Well, shit got started off bad with CCHS losing in the 4th to Pinson. Then our little guys lose Saturday morning 12-6 in OT and of course followed by Auburn losing then the Panthers and Steelers both loss yesterday.
Let me just say though, Bo Nix is badAZZ! Good gosh that boy has a pretty pass.

Well, shit got started off bad with CCHS losing in the 4th to Pinson. Then our little guys lose Saturday morning 12-6 in OT and of course followed by Auburn losing then the Panthers and Steelers both loss yesterday.
Let me just say though, Bo Nix is badAZZ! Good gosh that boy has a pretty pass.

Etowah wins 36-0 over region for Sardis. I’m not sure they are worthy of #2 in 5a but they should ho-hum their way into the playoffs undefeated with this pansy ass region.

2nd round of playoffs I watched the #1 team in 5A get a 16-0 lead and start the second half of the game in the power I formation. Didn’t get a first down, punted more in 2 quarters than they did all year and nearly blew the lead against a 6-5 team at Center Point.
It was the absolute worst offensive coaching scheme since last year when the same coaches tried to sit on a 20-0 lead at Guntersville to open the 3rd quarter and nearly lost.
Etowah has the talent to win 5A but they won’t because their head coach coaches scared. It’s a shame too, great senior class that has a legit chance to win 5A basketball title as well.

Congrats to GH's Central Red Devils after going in dry on Thompson to the tune of 52-7 to win the 7A State Championship in JHS. GH was there and I got to watch a good bit of it on teh cables.

Tuas brother - great runner. Great athlete. Much to be desired as a qb. To me he wasn’t anywhere close to Tua on skill Or central’s qb Parrish who is heading to LSU. Parrish reminds me a lot of nick marshall with a slightly more accurate arm - dude is just ice cold.
Tau finally played a fast defense last night who could seal the perimeter. His star olineman (also a Bama committ) was getting pushed back most of the night.

He ain’t leaving his current talent pool no time soon. That cupboard is full going all the way back to the current 8th and 9th grade classes. Although with multiple state titles now at different schools in the top classification - I would honestly worry more about him making the leap to d2 or small d1 college. Much like Bill Clark did before him under similar circumstances.
I have to give Dubose credit. The guy just knows how to win. Anywhere he’s been. And without grade fixing scandals (ahem Hoover). Impressive.
