Backup QB Star Jackson 'looking for a transfer' from Alabama
By Gentry Estes, Mobile Press-Register
May 18, 2010, 8:54AM

Alabama sophomore backup quarterback Star Jackson is not planning to be back with the Crimson Tide next season, per his high school coach.

"As of right now, he's looking for a transfer," said Errick Lowe, Jackson's former coach in Lake Worth, Fla.

Lowe said Jackson met last week with Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban to discuss transfer options. Jackson is expected to leave for an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision school or a lower division so he would not have to sit out a year and retain a full three years of remaining eligiblity. The new program at Georgia State, which is on Alabama's 2010 schedule, is one of the destinations being considered, according to Lowe.

Jackson played in five games last season as a redshirt freshman for the Crimson Tide, completing 13 of 18 throws for 116 yards.

Former St. Paul's standout AJ McCarron passed Jackson on Alabama's internal depth chart, however, during the final portion of the 2009 season and exited spring as Alabama's No. 2 quarterback.

As a result, Jackson's decision to leave is tied to playing time, Lowe said.

"As a redshirt sophomore, going into next season as third on the depth chart behind a redshirt freshman doesn't look good," Lowe said. "He doesn't feel like he's going to get an opportunity to play. ... I don't think he sees himself getting a legitimate shot of playing in the next couple of years."

Sooooo...one or two years before we see an article like this about Phillip Sims?

Also, it would be funny to see Jackson playing against Saban this year in that all important game that really needs to be moved to a Thursday night.

Seriously....and they tried to paint US as the racist school in the state. What school was that again where "that angry little man" stood in the school house door as Gump stated? I can't recall.....West Vance something er another is coming to mind.

Absolutely, they just played whitey for no reason.  What?  He's a year further along than star?  No, that doesn't matter, it's 'cause he's white.  What?  He's an undefeated National Champion?  No way does that matter, it's 'cause he's white!  They shouldn't care about winning or losing, they should play blacky instead of whitey and they won't!

On the black QB theory. I think logic would dictate that when a head Corch's livelihood and multi-skwazillion dollar contracts hinges on wins and losses, he's going to play the guy who can get it done, especially at the most crucial position on the field.  Not defending Saybinz here, but I'm not naming my number one based on skin color if it could jeopardize the golden goose.  Whoever the best QB is, that's who is playing.  Whoever the best Corch is...black, white or mauve...that's who I'm hiring.

If you don't want a black QB, why recruit him in the first place?

Then why would Alabama even waste time recruiting them, and giving them scholarships? I mean, we just signed a black QB in the 2010 class.

It is not Saban that is the problem.  It is the old blood that donates the money to the school and the dirt road grads that show up on Saturday.  I remember when Zow was the quarterback.  It was ok when he did well, but if he threw an interception, he became a "stupid n***er".  I remember bammers' sitting in sports bars saying, "Goddamit, take n***er boy off of the field... No need to shit your pants.  I just know that 70-80% of bammers still refer to people drinking from separate water fountains as "the good ole' days."  And that runs all the way up to the big money fat-cats (the ones that are paying for Saban's contract).
And when it comes to selling "scalpels", don't pull a Birmingham and show your blatant ignorance of the pharma/medical device industry.  It just makes your life look more pathetic.   :haha:

So that's your argument on why Star Jackson is transferring?  Because the racist fat cat boosters are pressuring Saban into playing the white kid?  The most arrogant, selfish, self idolizing, douchebag of a coach with no buyout in his contract is being forced to playing certain players because of the boosters?

Well, if everyone on here took an individual account of all of the bammer fans they knew, everyone would roughly say 80-85% of them didn't not attend college, let alone the university.  Hell, the resident posters here are you, Token, RWS and No Huddle.  We are batting pretty much 0% just from that sample.
Now you take that 85%, and rule out the hardship cases of people who strived to make it to college but simply could not afford it and you end up at about 80%.  So, you are left with 70% to 80% of bammer fans that are fans cause' daddy taught em' to be.  Daddy also packed up and moved at the first sight of a black person moving in the neighborhood and taught em' how things were better back when Wallace was runnin' things.  Daddy also dropped the N' bomb at will, instilling that habit into their offspring to spout off those same slurs when Andrew Zow threw an interception.
It always amazed me how someone could go into a stadium and cheer for black guys on a football team for 60 minutes, but then complain the rest of the night at the bar about Legion Field being in N' town.
So, if you stop for gas in Cullman, listen to Finebaum callers (like Joe from Hoover), or listen long enough at your local Buffalo Wild Wings, you will hear the 70-80% that I am speaking of.  But hopefully you will get lucky, and only have to be around the educated 20-30% of Alabama fans, that have some level of education past high school.  Unfortunately, none of them post on this board.

Now, now 280 I have an undergrad from TSU (Troy State University), my Master's from Grand Canyon University which I started at the Capstone (at the time Alabama did not offer Master's programs completely online) then I got my specialist from University of Nebraska at Kearney. I do post on this board and I do not use the n word. Also your example of white people leaving when black people move into an area is called white flight. It happens all over America not just in your neighborhood or the great state of Alabama. Right now the white flight is happening in New York. Young, some what well off white familes are leaving the burbs and moving into the city reducing their commute and leaving the black families that have moved to the burbs. I leave in Atlanta and my school and town are very diverse and I see white families leaving our school and community because they feel it is too dark. Now these people are huge UGA fans and they seem to fit your description of an Alabama fan. I know you are smarter than your post and I am sure you were just posting that to get a rise.

No doubts, I had high hopes for the kid, but I can't explain why anyone would be stating "Just wait till Jackson is the starter" after the LSU game.  It was heavily speculated then that AJ McCarron had moved ahead of Jackson.  If I looked hard enough, I could probably find you a link with quotes from McCarron stating that he was told he'd be going in if anything happened to McElroy.

I like Star.  I had high hopes for him just like I do every highschool kid that signs with Bama, but sometimes it doesn't work out.  I hope he lands on his feet and ends up having a successful career in whatever he plans on doing.

But I don't think Star is transferring because the racist boosters won't let Saban start a black kid at quarterback.

No, I said we were pretty much batting 0%, because I was not sure about No Huddle's background.  But let there be no mistake, you are definitely in the dog shit stupid bammer category.  You sir, have been accounted for.

280, I don't often say something like this to fellow Auburn fans, but you sir, are a dick. I am an Auburn graduate, with double degrees, and have little use for the unwashed bammer masses.  But if I had to choose between hanging out with Token (also college educated, you stupid fuck) and hanging out with you, I would choose Token, hands down.  You are too stupid to know just exactly who you are accounting for, asshole.

You spend your days handing out doughnuts to nurses and free pens and script pads to interns in hopes of getting five minutes with some real doctor while he takes a shit between patients, offering to wipe his ass for him while you beg him to buy whatever new vagina cream or stool softener you are schleping this week.  No wonder you med reps are on the absolute lowest rung of the medical food chain.

You and your swollen (edematous, even?) ego are on some pedestal making fun of people you deem to be uneducated.  Yet other people develop the stuff you sell, because you aren't smart enough to actually create something on your own.  And you sell that stuff to people that actually have the skill and ability to use it to better the lives of other people.  All you are is the trained monkey in the middle banging the cup around for the person playing the music and dancing for sheckels thrown by the crowd.

You don't know how to make the stuff you sell, and the law says you can't even use the stuff you sell unless someone else with a license gives you a script - in both cases, BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT EDUCATED ENOUGH.

Kind of ironic, ain't it?

EDIT - Oh, and BTW?  If you tried to use that stuff you sell without a proper license or prescription?  Token could arrest your ass.

Also ironic.

No doubt, I don't seriously think it has to do with the kid being black. Now, I will say there is still a remnant of this in in this state but it is not what has made this kid want to transfer atleast not on paper. I will say, though, it is very ironic that the one OB that I have heard say many bammers sing praises on is the one QB that is now being donwplayed as inadequate.

Yeah, but isn't that the case with EVERY high school stud who doesn't work out?  And I'm not saying he's inadequate, he just isn't better than at least 2 quarterbacks on the roster.  Considering McElroy is a 5th year senior with big game experience, he's obviously not starting over him.  So in the very least, he was battling for second string.  From the coaches standpoint, McCarron is simply better.

This point I am not disagreeing. Still, I have ammunition for those dumb asses that have chosen to open their bid mouths to easily for a big...well...whatever to be stuck in their mouths. Token, seriously, you were born to be an Auburn man. There are only three bammers that can carry on a decent conversation with an Aubie without some sort of vindictiveness.

Bullpoop, your bama brothers sure thought Star Jackson was the second coming of Jesus Christ. Don't try to bs me with a disagreeing response because believe you me I work with a lot of you bammers. Every since Jackson as been in Tuscalooser, I have heard nothing but praises for him. Now this? It sounds just like the usual "conspiracy theory". Maybe we should contact Paul Finebaum for an official statement?

I'll be civil with you because I honestly believe you may have me confused with someone else.  It is impossible for any person on this board or any Alabama board that I post on to find a single sentence where I as much as insinuated that Star Jackson would ever play a meaningful down at Alabama.  My suspicion was rumored to be correct, and since confirmed, during our bye week last year before the LSU game when he fell behind a true freshman with a redshirt in tact.  This year marks the 2nd year in a row, and the 2nd true freshman, that he's fallen behind making him 4th in the depth chart.

I don't berate Star because he worked very hard for Alabama for 2 years and was a part of us winning a National Championship.  With that said, if you had watched him play last season you'd have agreed with me that he happened to not be a very talented athlete.  Slow, indecisive and not on the same level as the people around him.

Holy shit your dumb.

Tiger Wench,

I could care less who you choose to hang out with, I have no idea who you are, and really don't care.  The doughnuts, pens, and pads of which you speak are tools used mostly by primary care reps with "me-too" products trying to get the physicians attention.  Most companies with products worth their weight adhere to PhARMA guidelines, which do not allow for such tactics.  You come off sounding like you are giving a speech at the Democratic convention on the evils of the "Pharmaceutical Giants".
You see, the irony lies in your post, which seems to be fueled by me putting myself "upon a pedestal", but you open by bragging about a double degree, while stating that my intelligence is inferior.  You make an attempt to put me in the box of a "dumb sales rep" and claim I am not intelligent enough to carry on an educated conversation with a caregiver about the products I represent.  So your diatribe on judging, comes off being very judgemental.
At the end of the day, I would hope you would be putting your "double degree" to a better use than posting bitchy comments on the internet.  I will be judgemental in return and say that it sounds like you tried to make a career out of going to college and what you have to show for it is a big pile of students loans.  Hope it works out for you.

Honestly - between RWS, NH, Token and even Bammerham - none of these guys are dumb rednecks. I think its safe to say. I honestly agree with what most of what the first 3 say on here, especially Token.

However, I do think that there is a double standard on the race issue. When it came to our FB coach search the state news outlets might as well have painted Auburn and Jay Jacobs as the next HQ for the Klan. Any reasonable person knows that it had nothing to do with race...nor do I think Starr Jackson leaving had anything to do with race.  It just aggravates me that we are accused of race related things left and right, when Bama is the school who has typically had any race problems on campus, never had a black QB for any substantial length of time and never had a black FB coach (neither have we to be fair). There was also not nearly the outrage when Croom was passed over for Shula, as there was when Gill was passed over for Chizik. I really though Gill was a flash in the pan for one year at Buffalo, and it had nothing to do with his race. I wanted Patterson and Kelly personally.

This whole argument has pretty much turned into a sword fight - as usual.

280 - you are indeed an ass. Although I don't disagree with the principle of a lot of what you say, you seem to turn every argument into a "holier than thou" pissing contest for your own self assurance of your self worth. It really doesn't seem necessary.

All of the "holier than thou" talk usually stems from personal attacks from the bammers when they see they are getting bitch slapped in the discussion.  If you will look back thru the threads, it usually starts when someone says "go sell a bed pan" or "you probably can't afford this" or "I pay more in taxes than you make a year".  Then when simple facts get thrown back at them, it turns into "you think your so smart" or "you are so arrogant, you must have a small penis".
Sorry, but you can't have it both ways.  If you want to stay on topic, fine.  If you want to call out my educational background or profession, be ready to discuss.

280, I mentioned the double degree so I would not be automatically lumped into your "uneducated" category, thereby giving you the chance to dismiss what I might say out of hand without knowing the source.  I have no student loans at all, dipshit, because I got full academic schollys to pay my entire way through undergrad and grad school, which I completed in five years, at age 21.  I am neither a perpetual student, nor Democratic nor saddled with student debt.  Hell, I don't even have credit card debt.  So unsurprisingly, you have completely missed the target.

Now that we have MY bonafides out of the way, I must say that I have never seen anyone work harder on a football-based message board to validate themselves and their ego and their own sense of self-esteem.  Most of us could give a rat's ass what the rest of us do for a living, unless it creates amusement (RWS), gets us free advice (our legal crew) or can contribute information to current events (the info I provided about the oil spill or Townhall's experiences with the next generation of delinquents).  So coming on here and trying desperately to convince us all of the relevance of your ridiculous comments based on what you make or what you drive or what you sell is just pathetic.  Ego, without substance or style, just opens you up to ridicule from all sides.  We may despise bammers, but at this point, even the bammers on here are cooler than you are.  You don't get to be one of the cool kids by bragging about how much money you make selling vagina cream out of the back of a company car.  It takes a helluva lot more than that.

All fucking with you aside....if you honestly believe ANYONE makes any decisions regarding Alabama football other than Saban, you're a fucking idiot.  That was one of the main reasons I thought the Saban hire was so important for Alabama.  He doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks and he'll play whoever he decides is the best at each position.

Now go sell some overpriced scalpels.

Even Saban knows money talks.  Money men don't pay midgets $4 MIL a year and not have some control or say.  In the end, Saban is probably the decison maker, but don't think he doesn't have to suck a dick or toss a salad now and again.

Look...if any of you really knew what it's like to be better than everyone else, you wouldn't be bragging about it on here.  I mean, how many of you can really say that you earn in the high 5 figures, roll up in an SUV on twinkies and enjoy the finer things in life like shopping trips to the J.C. Penneys and Target?

Just ask this guy:  he wrote the book on cool.

 :civic:

You seem to be hung up on vagina cream.  Please leave your personal problems out of this.  Once again, I have never bragged about what I do or what I drive (I said I drive a company car for christ's sake, we all know those aren't BMWs).  I have simply responded when someone has posted a snide remard.  One could say that you are bragging and being holier than thou by posting all of your "accomplishments" regarding scholarships, etc.  When you are simply responding to something I posted.  Same thing....  You seem to have a problem with the pharma industry and seem to want to diminish the validity of sales in that sector and downgrade what I do for a living.  Same thing....
So please, step out of the glass house before throwing those rocks, and for God's sake, get that cheese cleaned up out of your taco.

I hate Big Pharma and Ive never been a registered Democrat. That has nothing to do with you. I hate any industry that claims to, but actually has no intent to cure anyone. Very little money is made in cures. But there is a butt load made in being "almost there" with "almost there" symptom covering drugs. People want to bitch and moan about banks or oil companies but their profit margins pail in comparison with JJ, BMS and others in Big Pharma. But I guess thats an argument for another thread.

Luckily I don't work for a big pharma company, because I tend to agree with you on some of your points.  But, let's not throw the baby out with the bath water.  Believe me, some of the best minds in the world are working in hospitals (like UAB) to find a cure for diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis, specific types of cancer, etc.  A great deal of that reseach is being funded by the pharma sector.
To bring it home, let's say your dad goes to the MD today.  He is told that he has a certain type of throat cancer and his only option is to have his esophagus removed.  Now, he makes an appointment with the surgeon, goes in and is told that, yes, that is his only option (because he is a surgeon, and his job is to open people up).
Now, hopefully your dad wants to get a second opinion, so he goes to a different specialist.  Luckily someone like me had been in there "slinging doughnuts and coffee" and had advised the specialist of a non-surgical option.
Now, if that specialist had not been advised of treatment options, your dad would be drinking all of his meals from a tube the rest of his life.  But, since someone like me had been in there "handing out post-it notes", he is able to go on living a normal life.

In a perfect world, yes.  But unfortunately these guys are consumed with Medicaid, Medicare and Blue Cross reimbursement issues.  Most physicians don't have the time to keep up with innovations in the industry.  Also, they are creatures of habit, especially in states such as Alabama and Mississippi.
I met with a phamacist in Mississippi one time to discuss a treatment that I used to sell.  He remarks were, "why bother, don't the kids that have this die by the time they are 16?  That was based on data that was published around 1987.  This meeting was about 5 years ago.

Dr. James Andrews just pm'ed me and said you're completely full of poop.  Dr. Bland over at UAB said he was gonna buy two packs of the best notepads you sell but now he's thinking a more "innovative" direction may be necessary.  He said check back next year and thanks again for the Panera Bread.

They are only mean to idiots that bring nothing to the discussion.
You would get shitstomped.

You can't stop talking about woopiglet can you?  Please try to understand this last time, NOBODY HERE FUCKING CARES ABOUT ARKANSAS FANS!!!!!  YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT OUR RIVALRY AND AREN'T INCLUDED IN IT.  YOU CAN'T EXPECT US TO GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOUR FANS OR WHAT THEY SAY TO PEOPLE ON THEIR FORUM.

Please repeat this...  "When I start thinking that the opinion of my fan base is important to people who are engaged in a rivalry that I have no part of, I will refrain from telling them what my fan base thinks.  I know they don't care.  I'm an Arkansas fan and know nothing of their rivalry,  I suck up to the Auburn fans on this board and like it when they like me back, I guess you could say I'm a little faggy."

I was invited here. You just saw the party going on across the road and no one has been able to get you to leave.
In the big picture of things, Auburn is not the only school that thinks bammer fans are ftools.
If you would stay on a bammer board, we'd never have crossed paths. I don't go to their sites because I don't give a fuck what yall have to say.

The reason you don't go to other sites is because you have no reason to, Arkansas is no more important to the University of Alabama than Miss State.  You may have been invited here but you in reality have no reason to be here either.  There's a reason these mother phukers hate me and there's a reason I act the way I do.  It's the same reason I have, and will, hate them for the jabs they'll throw when Alabama inevitably comes down from the rafters.  You on the other hand are meaningless to all of this.  You don't understand it, you're not apart of it, so what you think of its participants couldn't be more irrelevant.  The fact that you continue to interject what your fellow Arkansas fans would say is evident that you believe that by being invited here your opinion is somehow relevant in regards to how Alabama and Auburn fans interact.  I promise you the two don't coincide.

There's a reason I never take you up on your offer to go over to whatever site you keep selling, there's a reason nobody here ever signs up over there.  WE DON'T phukING CARE ABOUT ARKANSAS.  I'm glad you were invited here.  Please try to not get in the way and PLEASE start realizing you're nothing more than a pet dog to the Auburn fans here.  They're happy that you make it a point to be loyal to them but that doesn't mean you get to eat at the table.

First of all there are members here that were absolutely, at one time, members on Tidesports.  I don't post on other Alabama boards but it certainly is within reason that they didn't only post on Tidesports.  I can see why they haven't logged on in a couple years.  What's your handle over at woopig?  I'd love to see how active you've been on weeks other than when Auburn plays Arkansas.

The Auburn has several players from Arkansas. I generally keep up with Arkansas players wherever they go.

Boartits came out of the blue with "Don't even pretend that you are like us" to a post that was neither about him or referencing him in any way.  I hadn't diatribed in a while and was glad to have the opportunity to scratch that itch, especially since I didn't even have to start it this time.  A year or two ago he took my rants toward Auburn personally as if they were also directed toward him and has ever since reacted as though I was talking about his mom.  That is why you'll occasionally see him come completely out of nowhere, without being provoked, without even being mentioned in the thread, and break out something along the lines of "Don't even pretend that you are like us."

By the way, shaggybevo.com is a very entertaining forum.  There's some really funny posters over there and a few coaches from around Texas as well.  Some really good stuff.

I don't think I've ever been on a bama board, and the times I have followed links to Hogville or Woopig, I was not that impressed.  I don't really care for the whole "you'll get your ass handed to you, we're going to fuck you up, you better bring it or we'll ridicule you" attitude.  I find it kind of silly.  I always think the people who write posts like that are probably 140 lb. nerds who got beat up a lot in high school, finally getting their revenge by swinging around a big e-penis and writing all tough.

I only read 4 pages in before I decided to give up.  But I did have these few things to site for the uber-educated 280tiger.

First, the double negative in "80% of them didn't not attend college" is a really hilarious way to make fun of people who didn't go to college.

Second, "Hell, the resident posters here are you, Token, RWS and No Huddle.  We are batting pretty much 0% just from that sample" is also ironic.  If you're looking for people who DID NOT attend college, and you think those four fit that description, then you're batting "a thousand", in baseball terms, or 1.000%...not 0%.

And lastly, in your response to Wench, you start of stating that you "could care less".  Was that supposed to be "could NOT care less", or do you actually care?

I suggest you stick strictly to insulting bammers, and stay away from the education insult thing...it's not your strong-suit.

Here's a nice little gem:

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/05/phillip_sims_high_school_coach.html
Quote
Phillip Sims entered the 2011 football season in an open competition for the starting quarterback job at Alabama, and ended the season firmly entrenched as the backup to A.J. McCarron, who had just been named the Offensive MVP of the BCS National Championship Game.

Now that Sims has decided to transfer to another school, his high school coach says he believes Sims was a better quarterback than McCarron but lost the competition for the starting job because he wasn't from the state of Alabama.

"If it's a close competition between an in-state guy and an out-of-state guy, the in-state guy is getting the job," said Oscar Smith (Virginia) High School head coach Richard Morgan in an interview with The Virginian-Pilot. "Phillip was in a situation where I thought he was the better quarterback, but he was the out-of-state guy. That's just the way it works in college."

Sims, who was a four-star prospect coming out of high school, played in eight games for Alabama and completed 64 percent of his passes for 163 yards with two interceptions, but didn't play in the Tide's final five games of the 2011 season.

Morgan explained that Sims' decision to transfer comes at the right time for the Virginia native and is based on the availability of playing time.

"McCarron still has two years of eligibility," Morgan said. "If it was the case where (McCarron) was a senior and Phillip had to sit one more year and then have two years, he wouldn't leave. Let's face it, they did win the national championship. So you're not going to bench the quarterback who won the national title. And (Sims) doesn't want to sit because he feels he's just as good. So he has to go somewhere where he can play."
Now, Sims isn't the worst QB in the world. I've seen worse. And AJ is no world beater in his own right. But anybody that has seen Sims play a down of college football in a real game knows that his HS coach is probably half retarded if he thinks PS should start over AJ. Not meaning to run PS into the ground, as I'm sure he could be a good fit somewhere. But damn, come on.

Did y'all read the article where Coach midget stated that they'll help out him and his family of they need anything (or something similar)...really? Anything?

So, his momma will be house sitting in Virginia?

His parents moved to Tuscaloosa to be closer to their son, remember?

Some bullshit once again.

Al.com should learn how to quote correctly and should stop sugar coating everything, it's high time the rest of the public knows the hard truth.

Not disagreeing with any of that in regards to Sims' ability to run the offense, but you know good and well your PTB up there are not gonna have a black QB unless they absolutely HAVE to. Sims could have been Cam and it wouldn't have set well with the likes of Gay Talese. Zow was far and away your biggest impact maker at QB during his time there and was yanked time after time for very stupid reasons. Other QBs were kept in games doing much worse than him. I know what he did to us in 2001 at JHS. That guy should have been the starter in many more games than he was. And we all know why he wasn't.

Sims' coach may be half retarded, but you have to be at least 3/4 retarded. You can't apply a landscape of 12 years ago to today, especially with a dickhole like Saban running shit. Especially when you're basing it on rumor and innuendo. Saban doesn't care if a 10 year old out of a sweatshop in India is the best player. They're going to play. How do you see that conversation with Saban working out when they tell him who he can and cannot start?

Saban is a powerful little shithead, no doubt, but he's got a century and then some working against him on this subject.  He won't be allowed to start a black qb.

Simple yet accurate.
