Title: Predictions

End of the regular season, what is our record?

I say worst case scenario we end up 9-4

9-4

Losses:
Clemson
aTm
LSU
@ Ole Miss

12 game regular season, right?

Our schedule is a monster and lets face it, the most important position on offense is still up in the air. If I'm backed into a corner, right now I say 6-6.

But, since I'm not backed into a corner, I'm going with us beating Clemson out of the gate and getting on a roll. 9-3. Unfortunately, the losses come to all of those that we hate the most.

Clemson sets the tone. Biggest OOC game in JHS in a long time. Somebody help me. WV?

I think it all hinges on the aTm game.  We beat them, we go 8-4 with losses to Clemson, LSU, UGA, Bama.  We lose to aTm, we will be lucky to go 6-6.

8-4 regular season with a big win in the Belk Bowl to get to 9.
We lose to the teams I really hate losing to the most in Climpsum and bammer as well as at Ole Miss and at home to LSU.

I think 9-3 and hopefully a bowl win.

5 - 7.

I have a waning confidence in Gus and the QB1.

We beat our OCC creampuffs though Arkansas State will be a win by a late TD or FG.

SEC wins will be Vandy and Miss State or Ole Miss.

We do not beat both Mississippi Teams.   We will get our ass handed to us against LSU, Clemson, Arkansas and Georgia.  aTm will be a low scoring game with a defensive TD to win.

We'll play Alabama tight 'til the 4th quarter.  They end up winning by double digits.

Gus will be fired.

If we go 5-7, I hope that the day after the Iron Bowl, Jay Jacobs is shown the door.  If the new AD wants to fire Gus and bring in his own guy, I'm ok with that.  But I suspect that if we have a new AD on 12/1, we will have Gus coaching in 2017.

We could not beat the worst UGA team I can remember last season. They were an absolute disaster.  And we lost to them.

I think they will play well on defense, struggle on offense and yep. Beat us.  I don't see us beating Clemson, LSU or Alabama. Old Piss is a year away from being NCAA raped and won't feel the effects yet. Probable loss.  A&M is a clown show.  State is Dakless.  Vandy is Vandy.  And we won't win all three of those.

I'm NOT normally negative but I saw nothing from Gus last year that gave me any confidence.  That's not changed.  I don't think he knows what to do.

6, 7, or 8 wins (regular season) are doable if things break the right way.

If the offense can be consistent and generate points more than burying the defense in bad field position or with lots of 3 and outs, that swings some toss up games in our favor.

If the defensive front can stay healthy (looking at you, Carl) and is as lights out, that helps a ton.

Kicking game should be steady as always.

Got to have good QB play though. Don't have to be the second coming of Cam but can't be turtle or cocoa panda either.

I predict the defense will be significantly improved.  May not beat Clemson or show that improvement as long as Mr. Watson is at the helm.  But, if at the very least, we hang tough and get some offensive rhythm in that first game, we finish 9-3.  Clemson, LSU and Bama hang the losses on us.

Oh...and fuck Georgia.

I predict the defense will be significantly improved.

I hope so, but until our defense looks good in a game, I'm going to assume all "improvements" on the defensive side of the ball are attributed to the shitty offense they scrimmage against.

My take on the defensive improvement prediction.  And BTW, amazing that we've won one MNC and played for another with our D pretty much being one large suck since CTT left.

First off, everything I've read concerning the coaching change is that things have been simplified under Steele and the atmosphere is 100% better with guys actually having fun.  I totally get that it was a Spring game, but in this last game, it seemed the defense was really flying to the ball and acting all nasty once they got there.  Maybe that's just my perception, but it looked that way to me.

Heights and weights.  I've made no secret of the fact that our S & C program concerns me.  They've been open from the start about having the same philosophy in the weight room as they do on the field. Fast, fast, fast.... Crossfit (bro) and Plyometrics will get you in great shape for the 4th quarter.  Also gets you blown up at the LOS by San Jose State.  I haven't read that they've changed anything; however, numerous players, especially across the front 7 have made significant weight gains.  And the promotional video they have out for off season workouts features way more of the basic strength moves...bench press, squats, dead lifts etc.

Mower Starz.  I can't recall a time when the defensive side of the ball has had this much star power.  If Deshaun Davis gets the nod at LB, he'll most likely be the only player on that unit that 247 didn't rate as a 4* or 5*.  I know, I know...the starz don't automatically translate to success on the field for an individual, but I'm a firm believer that there's skrength in numbers.  And check this out.  If they rotate in the right guys, we could have this group of 5*s playing at one time.  Montravelosity Adams, Carl Lawson, Derrick Brown, Byron Cowart and Tray Williams.

The best analogy I can think of with this defense is what we've said about Bruce Pearl.  If he can't win at Auburn, it just can't be done.  If we can't be a hell of a lot better with this group on defense, we need to quit trying.

Oh, and I imagine this was posted earlier somewhere else, but it's worth taking another look.  Especially the last half

Consistency and timely play calling will be critical.

It is fine to have a range in a season pick before the season starts given the pick isn't ridiculous (e.g. We'll win 0-12 games.). As I posted before, two biggest variables for me are consistency with offense and impact of the defensive front to control how much other teams do to us. Personally hoping we can start getting teams off the field on 3rd down for a change.

Word on the skreets....well, it's a dirt road that the County doesn't keep up very well...is that the light has come on for Byron Cowart and he's bringing some of that pain.  Plus, Paul James III and Jeff Holland are looking damn fine too.

It'd be nice to have several guys who can bring it off the edges and not just hope CLaw (That's what his boyz call him) can consistently get in the backfield.

Just my unedumicated opinion, but I think our LB play will be a big step up from the last couple of years.  McKinzy was finally somewhat effective when they moved him to DE, which is probably where he should have been all along.  Both he and Frost were slow as molasses and consistently in the wrong place.  Very underachieving for senior LB's.

I think there are 5-6 guys that can get after it that they'll use in the rotation.  Nice article on Montavious Atkinson on the dot  I am a gay twerker that has no balls!!!!  I also have no idea how to use the quote function to post stories, so I annoy the piss out of others.  I like male genatalia in and around my mouth..

No. I think people are just expressing well-founded trepidation.  There are plenty of reasons to doubt an offense that looked unstoppable in 2010 and 2013, looked pretty damn good for most of 2014 and 2009 but has also looked like two blind chickens fucking a frozen biscuit most of the rest of the time.

No.  Did I say anything about offense?  I'm addressing this statement from hit and run Starship.

"the whole oh yeah "D's looking good crap"

Most have simply said the defense could be pretty good.  So, because many think we'll be improved on defense, that equates to "We're gonna' suck like 2012"?

Yeah, okay.

Not so fast.
We can have a NEAR shutdown D similar to some LSU had in recent years just not go Les Miles brain-dead in some kind of a contest of wills between two proud institutions in an epic struggle for liberty and justice for all.
In other words, throw the goddamned ball and do some things to keep the opposing D's guessing.

This is what I think K alluded to several days ago w/o the Miles reference. Snaggle, I believe disagreed. So yeah Kaos wins.

Umm....no!  You believe wrong.  Have I ever even hinted that I disagree with mixing things up on offense?

My prediction has been simple.  If a QB steps up, we're going to be pretty damn good.  As in 9, 10 or better. If we get the same shittastic play at that position as we did last year, we're back in the Ham and most likely on another coaching search.

It's not rocket surgery with Gus.  It's nothing real deep.  It's not outside influences or Jay Jacobs or the BOT or something that changed to realign the stars and the fate of Auburn football back on a dreary night in November 2014.  It's not a change in the quality of hash browns at the Waffle House.  If he gets good QB play, his offense is almost unstoppable.  It's been that way all the way back to his days at Tulsa.  If not, he gets what he got last year.

That's the key, nothing more and nothing less.  His hits and misses are well documented.  And that's on him.

I hate to be the Eeyore, but I think we top 2012 in shittiness.

Between the QB situation, the RB situation, the shaky last couple of seasons, and the brutal schedule...

3-9. Clemson destroys our confidence with a 30+ point beatdown. We "rally" by squeaking past Arkansas State. Lose to A&M & LSU two weeks in a row at home with LSU embarassing us. "Rally" again by narrowly beating LaMo. Lose to MSU. Return from the bye and lose maybe a close one to Arkansas, probably as a direct result of one really stupid mistake. Lose to Old Miss. Are so demoralized by a 2-7 record at this point, we drop the Vandy game. Georgia beats us into liquid. Our 2nd team is able to beat Alabama A&M in our only convincing win of the year. Then Alabama runs the score up 70something to nothing. Gus is fired.

I hope I'm wrong.

I think we will be fine.  I think White will be a serviceable QB. I think we won't have a thousand yard runner but the RB's will get it done.

We aren't going to light the world on fire, but I don't think 7-8 wins is unreasonable.  We had a 6-6 record before the bowl last year and I would argue that we will be improved especially on defense over last year.

There are several teams in the SEC (that we are playing) with more question marks than we have.  aTm, Miss State, UGA.  Like Jarhead said the key game is aTm, we lose that and we are in a world of hurt.  I don't think we will lose it.

A rational take. I would differ in that I think we do get a 1,000 yard rusher.  Our O-line is really good up the middle and Malzahn's system is set up for it.  I keep going back to Barber last year.  He had no vision whatsoever.  Oh my God, I'm blind!  He wound up sharing carries with JR down the stretch and still got 1,000.

As for White, here's what we have as a sampling of his work from last year. Yesterday, the SEC Network was replaying some games from last year and I watched a good bit of MSU and Arky.  In his first start against MSU, he was 20-28 and 188 yards.  Obviously it was a lot of short passes but one thing was clear, AU didn't pick up a blitz the entire night and if he did try and stand in the pocket, he got hammered time and time again.

Against UK on the road, he was 17-28 for 255.  Solid in the win. Then the what shoulda'/coulda' been game against the Hawgs on the road.  19-34 for 254. How many dropped passes down field?  10?

So....obviously JJ will be the starter.

Remember 89 Iron Bowl? Not saying that level but I'm hoping for a similar attitude by our boys.

We just have to take it to them and be more physical. They are a better team than us on paper but not that much better. We have as much talent, they just have a proven QB.

I'm depending on winning turnover margin and lots of pressure by our D line.
