Title: Fantasy Baseball
Post by: War Eagle!!! on February 21, 2008, 03:44:17 PM
Is anyone here a pro baseball fan? I want to start a league that is not too serious, but has participation. I have only played Fantasy baseball once and I got in a league with people that were WAY too serious and also some that were like 16 years old...it ended up not being the best league.

If there is enough people that are interested, I will start a league, if not; that's cool too.

Hugh, I know you are a baseball fan and I talked to Jarhead over at AUN about joining too. I think it would be fun if we got a couple of people in that liked to have fun, were active, and knew a little about the game but didn't take it so seriously.

Let me know if anyone is interested!

P.S. And the fuckers out there that says baseball sucks and baseball is boring...that's fine...don't fucking respond!!!

I have never played fantasy baseball, but I did play fantasy football for the first time this past year, and it was pretty fun.  I would be interested in joining a league, as long as I'm not the FNG and get screwed over.

I, like ssgaufan, played my first fantasy game in pro football last fall.  I enjoyed it.

As a supporter of our great American pasttime and 2008 World Champion Atlanta Braves, I am interested in trying out some fantasy baseball as well.  I do know through others who have played fantasy baseball that it is much more involved with the number of games, however.  I may not quite be on top of it like I was football, but am willing to give it a shot.  Unless there's money involved, of course-then I'll be all over that muthafucka.

Baseball sucks.  Baseball is boring.

This is one of the few genes your father neglected to pass on to you.  I can always count on him being in the recliner when the Braves are on.

I enjoy a good baseball game in person, but I can't stand watching it on TV.

Besides, I only posted that in response to this:

I'm in for sure. I prefer a live draft if we could work out a time that everybody is available.

Yahoo does a good free league.

Nah, new batting gloves is all. The league will supply the cleats and bat!

I set it up as head to head as of right now. I think that will keep everyones attention. It is also set up for a live draft but you can rank your players if you can't make the draft. Also, I can change any of the settings so if you want something changed or think it will be better a different way, let me know.

Also, Winch, I know you are a baseball fan of the suck asstros so if you feel froggy...jump!

Yeah, I'm a fan, but I have NO CLUE how to do this.  Are there instructions on the site?  Is it self-explanatory?  Could one of you put aside the smart ass sarcasm for a brief moment and clue me in on how to draft and how it all works?

If so, count me and my Disastros in.  Glad to see you are including Jarhead as well.  He can be our token Cards fan.

It is really easy. You have a team roster, and you start the players each day you want to start. You have to start 1 1B, 2B, SS, 3B Outfielders and so forth. YOu can also start 2 starting pitchers and 2 relievers on any given day. You get points based on how your players do and you go head to head for a week against someone else from the league.

The draft is pretty self explanatory. You can draft who ever you want, whenever you want, as long as he is not on another team. You can take all pitchers first or hitters or whatever, but you need have a starter in each of the starting positions to maximize points.

You can see the league settings as to which stats count for points...it's pretty easy really!

I hope you can play...it should be fun if we have some people sign up!

Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I can change a couple of different things like roster types, draft time, and stat categories. Go look at the settings within the league and let me know if you guys want to change anything. If you do, post it here and we can decide what to do.

Guys, I am so sorry - really - but I am going to have to drop out.  I am in the middle of a huge project at work, and I am putting in some major hours here, then dealing with two kids at home.  I haven't even completely gotten through my rankings yet, because I just don't have time.  I know I won't have time to follow this like I would want to.  I hate this - I really was looking forward - but I just can't do it.

Yes. It is like Fantasy Football. The better your players do, the better your team does. It doesn't really take a whole lot to do well. It is about like aything you do, if you want to put a lot of time in, you will probably really enjoy it, if not, then it will just be something to waste more time...it's all relative really. i don't expect this to be a really highly competitive league....just a bunch of shit talking and a good time!!! That's what I am hoping for anyway....

Jenny, sorry you can't do it but I understand...good luck at work!!! Also, I am going to find my way down to Houston when the Cubs are in town. I will let you know when I am there and we have to grab a beer and catch a game if you are there...

No offense taken - I didn't know I could do that - and I guess I just figured you would be able to do it, Mr. Selig... :)

Please do call me when you plan on coming to the Astros - Cubbies game - we will have to get together for sure.  I am truly disappointed that my life is so fucked up right now - I have only been at work one day so far this week, as BOTH kids are sick - Carl and I are taking turns and tomorrow is my day to hit the office, so I find myself working late at night from home trying to stay afloat.

Spencer threw up on me so bad Sunday that I had vomit INSIDE my ear... talk about a great week...

Thanks for understanding you guys - I will try like crazy to play next year.

Nice 7 point start there, Muffdivers.  We are both riding the Boston wave, and will do so for the rest of the season.  2 Balls 1 Bat are out early as well with a 4-1 lead over the Widowmakers.

My question is:  do all your players on your roster count for points?  I Noticed that there are players on the bench "bn" and I'm assuming that they don't count.

I'm in.  Be skeered when you play 2 Balls 1 Bat.  It could get messy.

Are we doing the live draft or auto-draft?
I can't believe you didn't go for such a sweet deal...two pitchers for that no talent Papelbon.

What is an average final score between a matchup?

for our league there are 10 stats (5 batting & 5 pitching) being tracked.

batting:  runs, homers, rbis, steals and average

pitching: wins, saves, strikes, era and whip (walks and hits per inning pitched)

for every stat a team leads,  that team gets 1 point.  if both teams are tied in a stat no points are awarded.

if you lead at the end of our matchup in runs, homers,  average, wins, strikes and era you get 6 points.

then

if i lead in rbis, steals, saves and whip i get 4 points.

for the week you beat me and will be awarded a win for the win column.

at the end of the week if you and i are tied (5 stats you lead and 5 stats i lead) then our record will reflect a tie.  that is why there is win, loss and tie column on the teams front page.

if i wrote this and you knew it all along then go  :fu: yourself.

disclaimer::  don't worry ogre, the whip column doesn't represent how often jumbo  :s&m: you per week.

i know that didn't directly answer your question. most leagues i have played it has been 6 to 4.

i rock at teh yahoos fantasy baseball.

Also, each "game" between players lasts one week. Monday-Sunday. I believe this first "game" is two weeks long because of the weird regular season games played in Japan this week.

One correction to chinooks post.

I'm pretty sure your record isn't just whether you won the game or not...but what the score was. Say at the end of the first match-up I am leading 7-3...my record would show 7-3. So it not only matters whether you win or not, but how much you win/lose by.

Kaos, seeing as how you are off to a horrible start, and we are matched up this week, I will let you know that two of your starting pitchers are on the DL.  No not the DL as in fucking somebody in the ass, but the DL as in not playing at the current time.  Just thought I'd give you a heads up, since I don't like beating up on the mentally challenged.   :silence:

I too had to make some lineup changes.  Prince I forgot how to hit the long ball Fielder, is bringing me down.  And if anybody is curious, no I won't trade him, surely he'll get on track sometime before the damn All Star break.

The same group that batted almost .400 the first week, slumped to under .200 the second week.
Also, Roy Oswald is a big fucking pansy boy.

Yes. If you are in drag and drop mode...pick up the guy who is on the DL and start to drag him...an open DL spot will open at the bottom of your lineup. You can then add another player to your team.

Note: This only works if the player is actually on the DL.

I freely admit that I have no idea what I'm doing.  I've looked at the thing once and then didn't really know what I was looking at.  Whatever happens with that team will just happen on its own.  As I predicted prior to putting it out there, the team will be fodder for other's cannons.

Ditto.  I didnt' think I'd like it and even though I'm second to last, it's still interesting to see how each day pans out and I'm addicted to toying with the lineup.  Especially on days after Chipper Jones hits two home runs and has a batting average for the week of .583, with Derek Jeter right behind him with a .471 batting average and 7 RBI's.

Well, after the complete ass raping I gave the Death Dealers last week, it's on to the Lollygaggers for me.  I'm a little worried, because he just beat Jarhead's Team, and Jarhead's Team beat me in week 2, giving me my only loss of the season.  Then again, I've made quite a few roster changes since then, so we'll see how it shakes out.

You ended up losing 5-4.  That puts your overall record at 10-17-3, in 11th place overall, and 8.5 games back from 1st place.

Hopefully I can keep it up this weekend. I'll  be in Jacksonville starting tomorrow through Sunday so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get on every day or not to set the line up. Might have to make some starting pitching decisions tonight for the rest of the week.

Actually, according to StatTracker, yesterday's performance has temporarily put them in dead last with a 13-30-7 record.  Of course that is subject to change, but it's still fun to call him out on it.

Oh, and for the record, you're technically the 'new' 11th place team, with a 16-24-10 record.  Salt in the wound and all that.

Two thing I just noticed:
The huge gap between 3rd and 4th place, and that if these scores hold, Kaos will only be 2 games out of a playoff spot.

You silly, silly bastards.  There is a lot of baseball left to be played.  Players get hot, get cold, and get injured.  I still feel that it's anyone's game.  And now that I have realized that you can't be a Braves fan and play fantasy baseball with your favorite Braves players,  you all better watch the fuck out.  2 Balls 1 Bat will be in the playoffs.  Huddy and Chipper will suffice just fine in meeting my Braves needs.

I shouldn't have any more players on the DL as my roster has been rampant with injuries.  It's ya'lls turn now.

Well, we're halfway through the season, and there hasn't been much of a shakeup at the top over the recent weeks.  Even though I laid the wood to the 1st place Lollygaggers last week, Aubie 16 still holds a commanding lead - up 5 games on 2nd place nookie, and 10 on the resilient Muffdivers.

Maximum Kaos is holding steady in 8th place, even though the manager has not logged on in months.  The Widowmakers are getting beaten like they stole something, and sitting in dead last.

Here's to the Muffdivers cranking it up a notch in the 2nd half of the season!  I'm coming for you, 2Balls1Bat.

I am losing 7-1 to Jumbo at this point in time. The team in last freaking place. I am staring at 2 straight losses.

My lead has been shrinking faster than Georgia Costanza in a cold pool.

I'm seriously thinking about trading away Derrick Lee, just so he will do well for the Cubbies.  Anyone want to get rid of a good closer to get a good 1st baseman?  anyone?

Talk to Thrilla before pulling that move.  He did the same thing with the Braves, and now he's battling for the bottom of the barrel.

Hey, R. Kelly hasn't visited me just  yet.

I need to to administer an arse-whuppin to No Pussy Please before I claim THE CHAMPIONSHIP    of the consolation bracket.

And does anybody want to comment on Kaos's team?  When you don't look at your team and don't make any moves...hey, it gets you in last place after all.

Is it too late to trade my entire roster and bring up some AA players?  Can I fire the manager?

HAHAHA.  I was trying to figure out what it did.  Far as I know, the season is over.  I tried to delete all the active players and add ones that were on the DL but it wouldn't let me do that.

You are correct in the bolded assumption.  Your last game was played last week.  The addition of Jeff Francouer was almost the same as adding someone on the DL.

Next year you want to do those type of roster moves during the season, so you can stand on your podium, thump your chest, and say "I AM THE FANTASY BASEBALL MASTER!"  Or, be mired in mediocrity, so we can all make smartass comments all season long about how you don't make roster moves.  Beware: if you start managing a team, it can get addictive.

I'll take you up on that.  And if you're ever down near Birmingham, I'll let you buy me a drink or two, too.

Also, just so there is no confusion about who's playing in the big boy's league, if either nookie or I were playing 2 Balls 1 Bat this week, (the team fighting for the consolation prize championship), we'd both be pounding that ass 8-2.  Sadly, he's pounding a Hugh Jass by the same score.  If they could make a AA Fantasy Baseball division, these toolbags would still be mired in mediocrity.

Like Auburn's football team, 2 Balls 1 Bat plays to it's competition.  If I were playing in the championship bracket, then I would've been making moves on the waiver wire that would've made your head spin.  The challenge just didn't warrant such action.

Despite the fact that this is the first fantasy baseball championship I've see, I still must say that it's the best fantasy baseball championship I've ever seen.  You guys really were neck and neck for two straight weeks, and you rarely see that in this fantasy game.

Congrats to Nookie on first place, and $0 in money and prizes earned...but you get one hell of a pat on the back!  Plus, I know from experience that the satisfaction of beating Ogre is immense and a bit hard to quantify at first, so just do your best to enjoy the experience.

Next year, perhaps, we'll throw a little dough in there to make it more interesting.  And maybe that will get some folks (cough cough Kaos cough cough) a little more active in the league.

On to football, and supreme domination!

you know we both stacked our line-up on starting pitchers for sunday.  ogre had 5 or 6 while i had  7 but one ended up not starting.   of those he got 1 win and i got 2.   i also stacked my line up with home run hitters.  that paid off.

i would vote a split championship but i'll take the said enjoyment.

it figures i won with no money involved.

I just got online and saw where I lost.  I would like to say that I'd be gracious in 'defeat' but that's bullshit.  I wuz robbed!

Why couldn't the tie breaker be runs scored, RBI's, stolen bases, or batting average?  The way I see it, we tied 4-4, and I won the other head-to-head matchups against nookie.  I refuse to admit defeat when I wasn't beaten and ended the season with a better overall record.  Fuck your Fantasy Baseball rules.

Send a letter of complaint and a $20 complaint registration fee to the commissioner and I am sure I he will be able to take a look into the stats and see what has happened.

Remember, nothing can be done without the letter and the complaint registration fee sent to me the office of the commissioner.
