Title: Spring Is In The Air
Post by: Snaggletiger on February 23, 2023, 11:52:10 AM
In a literal sense, yes.  It's February in Alabama, and we are in the midst of about 7 straight days in the 80's.  Damn cow farts causing all this global warming.

Spring Practice starts Monday.  Even though it's just practice....practice????  We talkin' bout practice.  Not a game.  Not a game. We talkin' bout practice. I'm still looking forward to reading some reports with a little bit of renewed enthusiasm.  May even change my mind and go to the Spring game.  Maybe!

Pretty good interview. I personally like his idea for the spring game. It’s original and could be a bonus point in a recruit’s eyes.

A couple things I am reading in multiple places regarding the situational scrimmage from Friday...

1. T.J. couldn't seem to miss.  Looked like the best out there by far.

2. Camden Brown is trending towards being WR1, and is a consistent dominating presence on the outside.

3. Offensive line is looking pretty nasty early on.

4. Tolan is looking like a force in the linebacking corps.

5. Battie is a shifty homerun threat.

6. Fairweather continues to impress.

7. Faulk is not playing like a True Freshman.  Will likely be a starter.  Also hearing Cam Riley is getting looks at Jack situationally.

All of this could be people talking out of their collective rears, but it's pretty consistent in different corners of the internet.

People can hate the dude or not, but I think there is a staff in place now that is actually "coaching" and getting the most out of what's the there. Especially a guy like Teejay....has that dude ever had a good coach in college? Like, seriously.

That’s a resounding nope on the good coaching part. If he stays, wins the job, and shuts up the haters game 1, I would be okay with it.

In fact, I’d be one of the haters he would be shutting up. Put that size and cannon to good use. And remember the correct team to throw it to.

Coaching can't stop him from looking like a wounded giraffe when he runs, but they can fix the OL, scheme, route running and ability for the RBs to take some pressure off the passing game.  I will reserve any judgement until after game 1 if he does end up the starter.

As far as TJ, "most" still think AU will get a QB from the tranforeous portus.

I didn’t want Bucky. I also didn’t want Trump. I’ve been wrong, before . Not very often.

I cannot deny that Bucky has done more and faster than I ever expected, to right the ship.

Long term, who knows? Kaos may be right, again.

Recruiting wise? Off the charts, so far. He created more buzz (sorry buzz) than we’ve ever had. I believe it’ll translate into a top 10 class, probably the next one.

Much more focused on recruiting than Hadley.

Not sure why we get in the mindset of first string only though. We need depth. That’s where Bama and uga kills other teams. Tj could end up being an extremely serviceable backup with decent coaching. The thought is also to not have him run as much. He is not a dual threat qb but every qb at auburn since 2017 has been a dual threat qb. They’ve had no choice.

True but I just assume that if the coaches go after a portal guy it will be to push for the starting position. I am pretty sure they have watched film on the current rooms in game abilities. The most average AU fan can see there are issues there. Who knows, there may not be a QB enter the May portal that is any better than what AU has currently.

Judging by the Coach Yahtzees presser yesterday, the TE and OL are doing really well. You couple that with earlier statements, all rooms could be graded with a B+ to A with the exception of the QB and WR room.

Not Spring practice related, but the Pro Day was just held.  I'm sure everyone has heard, but if you didn't, Shedrick Jackson ran an "Unofficial" time of 4.25 in the 40.  Also did an 11' foot jump in the broad jump.  Did over 20 reps with 225.

Now, either this guy sucks at teh routes running, or our former coaching staff sucked at teh coaching.

I had the opportunity to talk to a Pittsburgh Steelers scout at the 2021 Iron Bowl, and he said John Michael David Samuel Shenker, would likely get a shot in the league. Said he was gym rat, worked his ass off, and had good hands.  In his Pro Day workout, he ran a 4.53 40, and pushed 27 reps on the bench. not bad at 6'4" 250.

It’s a damn shame he and Owen P had those type athletic numbers and had almost zero coaching during their time. Other than their first year or so while learning.

You say that, but that dude could not catch a ball to save his life early on. And with all that speed, there was no separation whatsoever.

So, was it coaching, or was it just speed without the football intangibles?

But I think I might have at least taught him how to catch a punt!

He could have been taught to catch something with that kind of athleticism. In 5 years. Something.

Somewhere in the 4.3 range, and around 200 pounds.  I believe kick off returns might have been in his wheelhouse too.

Wanting to get myself good and learned up in anticipation of Saturday's festivities, I gave a few clicks to the slackjaws over at al.com to read practice reports.

Lawd, when I tell you came away lathered up instead, I mean to say that I was fully erect.

With the exception of a little depth issue in the secondary and not knowing who the fuck is going to sling the rock, one of which is admittedly a texas-sized big deal, this team sounds like it can make some noise pretty quickly.

I love the smell of unbridled optimism in the spring.

I can see us surprising some folks this year with a strong 8-9 win campaign.  I welcome that win total back after the last couple of years with open arms.

I'll be in Auburn Saturday, but it will be at some lame Easter Egg hunt for my kiddo.  Trying to bribe the wife to let me slip away, especially since you are wanting me to share in your little baggie of the devil's lettuce and all.
