Title: Home stretch
Post by: wesfau2 on August 16, 2022, 05:01:19 PM
QB depth chart as of today: Finley, Ashford, Calzada.

After Friday they'll cut to two and name a starter.

So...Calzada getting the motivational ranking or did the missed spring really put him that far behind?

What about Kadril Frayzha?

I was hoping Calzone would come in and be the bizzomb, progressing well from year one to year two.  Maybe, maybe not.  It's just one scrimmage. Finley gives me very few feels.

I did read an article on Caladadada early last week, that was entirely negative.  I was thinking it was just a hit piece, and about to write it off.  Then, one thing he said stuck with me.  The question was asked, "Can you name one impressive thing he did last year without referencing the Bama game?"

Honestly, no!  Ultimately, if he's not all that and a bag of Cheetos Cheese Curls (The crunchy kind, not the puffs) then at the very least, we'll have a back up who has an entire season of SEC ball as a starting QB under his belt

Just don’t think Calzada has gotten back up to speed yet. Not sure he will. The practice report from today seemed to think he was a little better than tj and Ashford but by all accounts they were all kind of bad. He was just the best of the them. Many of the writers attending practices are saying tj has improved his footwork and arm. I’ll believe it when I see it in game. Lot overthrows today by all 3 qbs too. On wide open receivers. Ughh

He gives me many feels...none of them good.

Just read where Jeremiah Wright (6'5" 335) just switched back to the offensive line.  I think that's 17 total switches for him.

Probably signals the end of Nick Brahms' football career.

GH said a few days ago that he heard Brahms was injured.  You heard anything?

Through the grapevine I hear that his double knee procedure in June hasn't really healed up like they'd hoped.

Complications from it. The beat writers close to the program have been pessimistic about this for about a week...looks like all that gloom n doom on it is becoming reality. Tate Johnson got this though.

It's the injury thing that worries me more than anything.  I don't want to hear that Tank came up limping after a play.  Let's just start the season next week, and take it easy the rest of the way.

I done told ya'll

Finley - with coaching - could be a really good fit.  He's no Cam.  Nobody is.  He's not going to run for 100 yards a game.  But he's long enough and strong enough to stretch out for a yard off tackle if needed.

I stand by my review of his release.  When he's got more than .0000214 seconds and is healthy, he has a nice, high, tight, smooth release.  He's got the quick wrist flip delivery.

Can he read defenses?  I don't know.  I do know he was the one and only reason we didn't sit at home sulking like bitches last season.  Instead we went to a bowl and sucked gangrenous donkey ass.

Has he been coached?  Can't answer that. If he has, he could surprise you.  If not?  Well....

So you're saying Finley could be good, unless he isn't?

I'm saying he has the potential to be pretty good, yeah.  But it's raw potential and needs refinement.  Gus would never have provided that.  Can Hushmonger?

So apparently in the scrimmage last Friday Calzone was slangin' the ball around and looked good.  Too little, too late?  If Finley has progressed, and if the coaches have developed him over the offseason he could be pretty damn good.  Take a look at his offer list.  AU, LSU, bama, Baylor, UGA, A&m, Ok St and several others.  You don't get an offer to those places unless they see potential.  I don't know how far he has came along, but I will trust Harbinger and Key's record with QB's far and beyond what Gus could do.

I will say that he himself was a pretty good QB and has a much better track record developing them than Gus ever will.

Ive questioned Harbinger as a culture fit, Ive questioned some of his hires, Ive mostly questioned whether he understands recruiting on this level in this part of the country.

But I do not doubt the guy can coach fundamentals, toughness and offensive scheme. I am HOPING that this is TJ's turnaround and his Jason Campbell moment (with Borges).

If Harsin starts wearing Hawaiian print shirts on the sidelines I would feel better.

If it worked the same way? All for it.
