"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

So, I think I have made a few, ok, make that several rants about country music.  At least what they are calling country music today.  I don't hate it so much, some of it is decent.  I think they shouldn't call it country music and create a genre and call it "Southern Pop".   That would make it easier for me to take.  I think calling it country music is slapping people like Cash, Jennings, Nelson, Kristofferson, Ownes, Cline, Robbins, Williams, Crowell, Gibson...etc...etc...etc, in the face.

This latest deal with Eric Church, I like some of his stuff, it's decent, but what he said to Rolling Stone has made me a fan.  So much so, that I am not going to use my cool little internets tools to get his music but I am going to legitimately buy one of his albums.   Bravo to him for speaking his mind.  You may or may not agree, but at least he spoke his mind and I say bravo to him for that.

Quote
“It’s become American Idol gone mad. Honestly, if Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green f—ing turn around in a red chair, you got a deal. That’s crazy.”

“I don’t know what would make an artist do that,” Church continued. “You’re not an artist.”
"If I was concerned about my legacy, there's no f-cking way I would ever sit there," he said. "Once your career becomes about something other than the music, then that's what it is. I'll never make that mistake. I don't care if I f-ckng starve."

The "Drink in My Hand" singer complained that country music is dominated by former American Idol contestants, including Carrie Underwood, 29, Kellie Pickler, 25, and Scotty McCreery, 18.

He fucking nailed it. I like a lot of his music, and like him even more now. Listen to some of the shit now like Underwood and Swift.....fucking bubblegum pop garbage being masked as country music. Kelly fucking Clarkson has a song that is up for Country Song of the Year......are ya fuckin kidding me???

I like the Eric Church's, Gary Allens, Justin Moores nowadays. George Strait is another one (along with Blake Shelton) that can take a short walk off a long pier. His shit in the 80's was so good, and now this crap he is putting out? Garbage. Too many Hollywood producers are running Nashvegas now. George Jones and Dwight Yoakam were right many years ago, about Nashville.

Just before the CMA's a few weeks ago, People Magazine came out with a Country Stars issue where among other things, they did features on the sexy men and women of country music.  Okay, that's fine.  I get it and you're not going to stop an industry from trying to further itself.  But in doing so, they've slowly blended country music into mainstream.  There's nothing unique about country music anymore.  It's considered country because they take a pop song and put a steel guitar in the background.  It all sounds the same.  The artists you mentioned from yesteryear....Willie and Waylon and Cash, Kristofferson etc....were true country artists.  It wasn't about the pretty face or even the best voice.  They were actual real personalities who lived it.  They weren't playing country music because they saw a genre of music that they could get into and become a star.  Country was who they were and what they lived.

Having said that, I never was a huge country fan.  It was okay for a change every once in a while.  But now I can barely listen to any of it.  It's all the damn same...sung by a parade of pretty faces.  When a Willie song came on, you knew that sound immediately.  It was his and his alone.  Same with Johnny Cash or Conway Twitty or Waylon.  Now, when a "country" song comes on, I can't distinguish between one of two dozen artists...and don't really care to.

Agree 100%. Its just marketing and PR now. All the Hollywood and mainstream music producers have invaded Nashville and the main objective now is to line their pockets, not make "music". They use "music" as the means, when it should be the end goal. Like Snags said, country music was sung by real people about real people, and they lived it. You could relate to them. Carrie Underwood? Sure Id like to see her nekkid, but her material is garbage.
