Auburn's Justin Fradejas SEC player of week; Tigers return to national rankings

April 12, 2010, 3:32PM

Auburn outfielder Justin Fradejas was named the SEC Player of the Week and the Tigers returned to the national rankings for the first time since 2007 Monday.

That's some of the positive fallout from Auburn beating defending national champion LSU two out of three games over the weekend.

Fradejas was 9-for-19 (.474) with three doubles, six RBI and six runs scored last week, helping Auburn to a 4-1 record and its first home series win over No. 3 LSU since 1998.

Fradejas executed a safety squeeze bunt in the bottom of the ninth to score the game-winning run in Auburn's 6-5 win over LSU on Sunday.

Fradejas is the third Auburn player to be named the SEC Player of the Week, joining Brian Fletcher and Hunter Morris.

Auburn is ranked 23rd in both the Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball polls. It's the first time Auburn has been ranked since March 19, 2007, when it was No. 21.

The Tigers play New Orleans at home Wednesday before playing Vanderbilt in Nashville over the weekend.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Tigers drop game 1 to Vandy 11-6. Can we just forfeit Friday games for the remainder of the season?

I was thinking the same thing.  Thankfully they have been great on Sundays.

And this continued again today. We beat Vandy 8-2 behind the strength of a complete game from Corey Luckie.

edit: oops, I thought you said Saturday.

Yeah, saying that after a 5-4 victory in the middle of the week between a series with South Carolina & bama seems kind of silly now, doesn't it.

We need a series sweep this weekend to lock up a trip to Hoover. A series win would be nice. And anything less than those and I am getting the torches and pitchforks out and looking for GH2001 for making this little gem of a comment:

Seeing as how 5-10 is IN right now, it would take a colossal meltdown at this point NOT to make it to Hoover.

Just got back from the first game. Sat on the home team side a couple of sections down from the Home Bullpen - first row.... Saw up close and personal the monster HR the Kent. player hit around the 6th or 7th. Was a back and forth game all the way. The pitching was NOT clutch for us. I think it was Austin Hubbard who came in around the 7th - he kind of let the game go - total implosion. All in all - a good experience, great day, nice weather up there (there is only 10 mins from me). Looks like we are in better shape in the 2nd game already.  Note: The home ump was terrible in the first game missing 2 blatent calls. The guy looked confused and was actually overruled on another call by another ump.
