Earth Day tomorrow
« on: April 21, 2009, 10:37:59 AM »
Since tomorrow is an obvious politically lefty day designed to assuage peoples' feelings about the environment and 'Mother Gaea' I think that I'll celebrate Earth Day by leaving on every light in the house (along with the TV, computer, and every radio) and doing four small, individual loads of clothes in the laundry...using hot and warm water.  (Remember to play X-BOX tomorrow too; that ought to help increase your carbon footprint.)

I guess that attitude makes me a bitter, clingy, right-wing extremist.

Excerpt from cBS:

Happy Earth Day, Now Turn Off Your PC

Tech Analyst Larry Magid Urges Everyone To Consider Their Electronic Carbon Footprints
April 21, 2009

(CBS)  Earth Day, which will be celebrated on Wednesday, is a good time to look at the way electronics are using and wasting energy.

Among the culprits are devices that suck power while not in use. I'm not sure how they arrived at this figure, but the U.S. Department of Energy estimates that, "in the average home, 75 percent of the electricity used to power home electronics is consumed while the products are turned off."

The government advises unplugging devices or using a power strip to turn them off, but this is sometimes inconvenient as it will disable remote controls and, in some cases, require the device to go through a time-consuming start-up.

Some devices are designed to run 24 hours a day. Digital video recorders, for example, are always standing-by to record your programs. About 18 months ago, I put an energy meter on some of the devices in my home and discovered that my TiVo was using 30 watts 24/7 and a Motorola Comcast PVR I was using at the time was sucking 40 watts, regardless of whether it was recording a program.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Do Fat People Cause Global Warming?

Tuesday, April 21, 2009
The rising number of fat people was blamed for global warming on Monday.

Scientists warned that the increase in big eaters means more food production — a major cause of CO2 gas emissions warming the planet.

Overweight people are also more likely to drive, adding to environmental damage.

Dr. Phil Edwards, of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said: "Moving about in a heavy body is like driving in a gas guzzler."

Each fat person is said to be responsible for emitting a ton more of climate-warming carbon dioxide per year than a thin one.

It means an extra billion tons of CO2 a year is created, according to World Health Organization estimates of overweight people.

The scientists say providing extra grub for them to guzzle adds to carbon emissions that heat up the world, melting polar ice caps, raising sea levels and killing rain forests.

I think I will all that Tarheel is doing to celebrate Earth Day.  I will take it one step further and eat some really unhealthy food, drink a little more than normal, and smoke two cigars tomorrow.  I think I will intentionally miss the trash can when I am in town tomorrow :)

Great post, AUTiger1!  You've managed to find a recent story singling out one other group (besides Christians; reference The Haley Center Basement posts about Ms. California "As I stand here shaking my fist...") that it's OK to vilify...those equally evil, inconsiderate, selfish, excessive, FAT people!  They ought to be ashamed of the carbon footprint they create!  They're probably all evil, super-Republicans too!  That wouldn't surprise me at all!

Again, great post!  Very germane to the topic.

Things to do for Earth Day:

Leave all of the lights on (use incandescent light bulbs where possible).

Flush for no reason, multiple times.

Smoke a cigar or three.

Grill out (especially using a charcoal grill; making sure to cook something unhealthy from an animal that has a  large carbon footprint...like red meat).

Leave all of your electronics on.

Wash your car in the driveway.

Do multiple small loads of laundry (use hot water).

Take a hot bath.

Leave your lawn sprinklers on.

Any more?

Thought of a few more...

Bump the thermostat down a little

Cut down a tree (I have a few on a fence row that will come down tomorrow instead of Friday.)

Burn some tires in protest of Goodyear's high prices.

Punch a hippie......as many times as it takes to get your point across.

Feed the dogs some leftover baked beans.....I know three particular dogs that have rancid gas when fed baked beans, I will assume it will work for any of them.

Drink a few beers and shots, calories = weight gain = more stress on the climate.

Drive around in the biggest gas guzzler you have and make sure to do burnout if possible to waste as much fuel as possible.

I think that about covers it.

That suggestion reminded me of something similar; I think I'll pull my car, truck, motorcycle, and lawnmower onto the driveway and let them all run for a while.

Maybe I'll start up the chain saw too in honor of your well-timed tree removal too!

Great suggestions all!
