Can Malzahn's "O" Run the Ball?
« on: April 07, 2009, 01:19:49 PM »
StatTiger from ITAT seems to think so:

Auburn's rushing totals for the 2008 season...

1642yds-469-12tds / 3.50 YPC

Gus Malzahn's rushing totals on 1st down only...

2006: 1813yds-283-12tds / 6.41 YPC
2007: 1777yds-315-13tds / 5.64 YPC
2008: 2240yds-379-16tds / 5.91 YPC

I realize comparing his Tulsa numbers to Auburn's numbers is apples to oranges but it's still an amazing stat for first down rushing. He along with Gene Chizik aren't blowing smoke, when they talk about wanting to run the football. I'm sure the Auburn runningbacks and OL are excited about running the football in this offense.

The year before Malzahn arrived at Tulsa...

2006: 1149yds-248-11tds / 4.63 YPC (rushing on first down)

* No doubt CGM improved their running game *

* From 2006-2008, Auburn as a team has rushed for over 200-yards in 9 games. In the past three seasons, Gus Malzahn's running game has rushed for over 200-yards on first down alone in 10 games.

You can keep a wooden stake in your trunk
On the off-chance that the fairy tales ain't bunk
And Imma keep a bottle of that funk
To get motel parking lot, balcony crunk.

I think Malzhan will make running the ball a priority! We are set up with a stable of running backs, it should be a fun season. I have been waiting so long for some offensive production.

I can't wait to see Tate run the ball with a head of steam again...then mix it up a little with Fannin and McCaleb.  Assuming there are no significant injuries on the OL this season, I fully expect to see a great running offense and a pretty decent passing game to complement it.

Much will depend on QB play.  The offense, scheme-wise is perfectly capable of running the ball.

If you're intersted in what Malzan's scheme is: http://smartfootball.blogspot.com/2008/12/rhythm-nation-auburn-hires-gus-malzahn.html

I thought Tony Franklin was supposed to be the answer?

All you dumb barners were saying last year at this time, " damn with our badass defense and Tony the Tigers high powered offense, we will be unstoppable"!!!

I hate to actually contest your drunken ramblings, but we're not bammer. We never went anywhere. One down season and bammers must assume we are going into a 30 year slump like they did. You'll find out soon enough that last season was the anomaly for both programs.

Hope you guys don't ever have to travel up Springdale way.  Don't you know Malzahn is a GOD!  HIS OFFENSE CANNOT BE QUESTIONED, IT IS ABOVE THE THOUGHTS OF YOU MERE MORTALS.  You show those people that green jack-off icon relating to the messiah's offense, and they'll tar and feather your ass.  And believe me, they have plenty of feathers.
