Bill Maher vs. Ann Coulter
« on: February 28, 2009, 05:40:53 PM »
They're debating at Radio City music Hall in New York while I'm actually gonna be there.

Should I go?

$50 for the cheapest tickets available. I probably would need to buy them now if I were gonna go...

I'd be one of the few in the audience looking for a good clean fight. Hell, I'd probably be the only one not just pulling for Maher.

But I do love/hate both of them, to be honest. Both of them are over the top with their views, and I agree with each of them about 50% of the time.

I'm over the top.  You probably agree with me about half the time.  How much will you pay me to raise hell for 45 minutes?

Good analogy. Half the time I think you tell it like it is and people just don't wanna hear it, the other half I think you're out of your goddamn mind.

I'm tempted to fly up there just to see this.  It could really be a lot of fun.

Maher is an absolute moron, and Coulter is the playground bully.  I suspect that she's going to take his milk money, eat his lunch and bitch slap him.  Of course, we're talking New York City, so she's not exactly going to have a significant fan base.  He's a dipshit C-rated comedian along the lines of Franken, who might just draw enough of the dumbass deadbeat "victim" class to fill the audience.

As for your comments about agreeing with both of them 50% of the time, I'd love to understand what you guys agree with Maher about and disagree with Coulter about.  That ought to make for some good fun and lively debate.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Me too, GarMan.  But something already tells me that it's the libertarian hot-button issues like legalized marijuana (and other illicit) drugs, legalized gay marriage, laissez-faire foreign policy, and voting third party (even if you don't have a chance in hell of winning).

Swap laissez-faire foreign policy with separation of church & state, and you pretty much got it.

Of course I know that you are being rhetorical, GarMan.

But for the benefit of others as I recall it was mentioned in a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in the early 1800's.  Jefferson said in that letter that the first amendment to the constitution created a wall of separation between church and state while acknowledging that the people have a freedom to practice whatever religion they prefer (or not practice any religion at all if that's what one prefers).

There's no reason to revisit something that's already a constitutional right of the people to practice whatever religion they want (or not) without government interference.

Sure, but this current "separation of church and state" movement has been extended to include Stalin-like standards.  There is no "separation of church and state" clause in the Constitution.  The First Amendment only protects against the state establishing or adopting a single religion or faith.   :poke:

Fair enough.  Perhaps one of the libertarians will weigh in on this subject with a spirited defense.
