I'm not saying he wasn't a good coach. I'm just saying if he's so fucking great, why hasn't he been hired yet?

That's a ridiculous argument.

That shitty Bill Cowher.  Why hasn't that sorry bastard been hired yet if he was so fucking great?

Woah, I gotta step in on this one, Time out AUTail. How would you prove that even on paper? Tubs was 85-40 with the majority of that staff.

So are you sayng that Knox, Ensminger, Nall, and Gran are better than our current staff?  I have to say that Tuberville got to 85-40 on the strength of the defensive side of the ball.  Our offense on Paper and in Person has sucked since 2004.  Were we not like #100 or something like that on the offensive side of the ball?

This argument has never been solely about Gran, it is simply that the current offensive staff that chizik has assembled is on paper a much more talented staff.  The simple fact that all of the current assistants were at least sought after by more than just AU is in and of itself a big step up in perception.

I will go one step further by arguing that the quality of the product put on the field depends much more on the ability of the assitants to coach, rather than the name of the Head Coach.  If the assistants are sub par, the end results will be sub par.

And again I say that my reply was specifically talking about Gran.  Period.  Because the post to which it responded was a specific slam towards Gran.

What you're talking about isn't what I was.

I love paper football.  It bears so much resemblance to the real thing.

No actually if you read what I wrote what I am saying is how can you prove otherwise. They haven't even played a game. Real or on paper?!? This staff could be the biggest joke of all time, how do we know?

Last time I checked it took both sides to win a ball game.

Not really sure what your point is here, if I remember correctly the only assistant that anyone ever bitched about was Greg Knox. We were still winning.

My only point is that you have to give credit to Chiz for surprising us with what looks like a pretty good staff and quite an upgrade on the offensive side of the ball.  It may not turn out that way once the season starts but there is plenty of room for excitement in the hires.

As for not bitching about anyone other than knox, I have seen multiple rants about Ensminger, Nall, Franklin, Borges (2006 & 2007), and Tuberville.

I happen to fall in the camp of being pleasantly surprised by the quality of assistant that Chiz has hired and will continue to hope that it will show on the field until proved otherwise.

I take no issue with that, I am anxious to see this staff work together as well. However, what you originally said, seemed a bit overboard seeing as how no game has ever been played.  I certainly hope that you are right.

I meant this season, and everyone (myself included, Kaos not included) thought that Franklin was the second coming after the Peach Bowl.  As we all did with Borges after 04' and so on and so on. I guess I am just taking a once bitten twice shy approach this time.

My opinion is Gran is a solid RB coach, good recruiter and great man.  No reason why he won't land a job with a top level program.  Anyone saying he looked good because of great talent is off base IMO.  A major part of your job as an assistant coach is recruiting.  Whether or not he specifically recruited each running back doesn't matter.  The position coach is definitely going to meet with a kid before he signs.

Nall...I've said many times his lines haven't blocked a damn soul the last 2-3 years.  Cox enjoyed every one of those 30+ sacks in 06'.

Knox and Empstinger....PFFFFF.

Look, these guys all had more than their share of success at Auburn.  My argument was that this staff, starting at the top, had grown complacent since 04'.  It showed in most phases of the program, possibly with the exception of defense.  The recruiting has been way down and the overall direction of the program has been a Chinese fire drill.  There have been some great coaches on this staff, including Thomas Hawley Tuberville.  But, when the chemistry and the drive aren't there anymore, it's time for a change.

That's a ridiculous argument.

That shitty Bill Cowher.  Why hasn't that sorry bastard been hired yet if he was so fucking great?

Reeeediculous.

Well, he's looking, unlike cowher. He interviewed with tenny. They obviously passed. Bill cowher is making at least six and more likely 7 figures being an analyst and doesnt need the money. Cowher walked away as opposed to getting the axe. Chizik could have kept gran like he did willis. Cowher has stated he isn't ready to return to coaching, but will have his pick of the litter when he is ready.

You are trying to start a different argument here than what I stated to begin with. Quite poorly I might add with the cowher comparison. If eddie gran is the absolute shiznit that some people were declaring he was, then why is he looking for work yet unemployed?

Like I said REPEATEDLY, I'm not saying he's not a decent coach. Even said the staff, including him, was great at recruiting. He just doesn't overly impress me. Name one average recruit he turned into a big overachiever. Apparently, at least lane kiffin agrees with me for now.

Your point holds no water.  None whatsoever.

Gran applied for ONE job.  ONE.  Who says HE didn't decide it wasn't for him.  That's the only place he's looked.  Maybe he's happy sitting it out a year and waiting to see where Tommy ends up.  Maybe he'd have an OC slot there.

You're making ridiculous assumptions and propping up a theory that won't bear the weight of a mosquito egg.  It's asinine.

Whats your theory? He is so incredibly great that he hasn't found a job?

You are trying to force an argument on me so you can declare victory and it's getting sad on your end.

ONE LAST TIME HOPEFULLY. I Have already said GRAN IS A GOOD COACH AND REALLY GOOD RECRUITER. Have stated that I don't think he is the superman of rb coaches or someone would have snatched him up by now. It is an opinion. Couldn't care less whether you agree or not.

Okay, reshape the argument again and bang your victory drum if you must.

I would say that Gran possibly turning down the UT job to wait and see if Tubs will give him an OC job might be the most incredibly stupid assumption/reasoning ever to written on this board.

Now I know you must be off your meds

My theory is that you don't know shit and are making broad unsupportable leaps of logic.  That's my theory in a nutshell.

You are using the point that Eddie Gran has yet to take a coaching position elsewhere to validate your opinion that he must not be "the schiznit."

That's ridiculous.  All you know is that he talked to Tennessee and didn't take a job there.  That could mean any number of things, only one of which is that he was rejected.

You don't think Bill Cowher's looking for the right opportunity?  That he wouldn't take a job he thought was a good fit?

Can you say for certain that Eddie isn't waiting for the right job to come along?  You ever considered where his daughter is FUCKING BURIED?  That he might not want to move a long way from that and for that reason ruled out a ton of possible places?

Even an opinion should have some basis to support it.  Yours doesn't.   Now go fist a dog.

Do you KNOW that this isn't the case?  Unless you do then it's just as potentially viable as "he fuckin' sucks and isn't the schiznit because he couldnt' get a job at Tennessee".
