I know most of you guys don't watch the National Pussy League. Wait, I'm not talking about that new Pornhub series. The NFL.
I do, but certainly not with the same passion as teh colleges. But I do watch, and keep up with it. This past Sunday, and last night's MNF game between the Raiders and Chiefs, really highlighted the direction this league is going.
First off, I get player safety. I'm all for limiting hits that take out knees and/or the blatant level spearing to the helmet. Look, helmet to helmet happens all day long, and most times, it's just a matter of guys flying at each other at a high rate of speed and bracing for contact. It's part of the game, and always will be.
However, the protections of the quarterbacks are really putting a bad taste in people's mouths. Even Troy Aikman said something to the effect of taking the dresses off the QB's last night after a roughing the passer call was made against KC. The defender, Chris Jones I believe, tracked down Derek Carr in the pocket, grabbed him with his left arm, and stripped the ball with his right. In fact, Jones had the ball before the two ever went down. But Jones went down with Carr and landed on top of him, even trying to brace the impact with his left arm, because he has the ball in his right. Flag.
Sunday, the ATL was facing Brady and the Bucs in Tampa. The Falcons had almost come all the way back and were a score down at 21-15. They had one 3rd down play to stop Tampa late in the 4th, and make them punt. Stop them and you've got a shot. Don't, and the game's over. Grady Jarrett breaks through and wraps up Brady around the waist. Grady goes down on his ass, and takes TB to the ground. If you saw the play, you would never even dream that a roughing call would be made. Nope, flag!
Football is a violent game at almost any level. I'm fine with taking the blatant, or intentional stuff out of the game. But let's just go ahead and make it two hand touch, or flag football for the QB's.
