The family of Los Angeles Rams running back Tre Mason is reportedly concerned about his well-being after a series of incidents during the NFL offseason.
TMZ Sports reported Tuesday police have been forced to respond five separate times for issues involving Mason over the past four months. The outlet noted his family is worried about his safety and mental health due to "a string of bizarre behavior and angry outbursts."
The most recent incident occurred Saturday when police responded to the family home, according to TMZ Sports. The report explained he's "never been accused of hurting anyone," but at one point, his family became concerned when he "hadn't slept in days." It's also noted he agreed to check himself into a facility sometime during the stretch of issues, but no further details were provided.
Along with the string of concerning events, which TMZ Sports stated began March 28, Mason missed an April court appearance in Florida.
Jack Wang of the Los Angeles Daily News noted the running back's attorney said his client missed the arraignment hearing on misdemeanor traffic and drug charges because the notice was mailed to the wrong address. The case dates to a March 5 arrest during which the officers used a Taser on him twice to get him out of his vehicle.
The latest update on his status comes at a time when his roster spot with the Rams is in question. Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com listed him as Los Angeles' most notable veteran on the bubble, citing the off-field concerns, depth at the position and missing the bus for a road game last season.
Todd Gurley is coming off a terrific rookie season and figures to fill a workhorse role in the Rams backfield this season. The team also has Benny Cunningham, Chase Reynolds and Aaron Green among the backs who will be fighting for playing time during training camp and the preseason.
