Thoughts On RB
« on: January 20, 2016, 12:23:00 PM »
I haven't seen much discussion on potential RB recruits.  With the departure of Barber, it seems to me that we need to target at least one more for this class.  The only one classified as a RB in this class is Malik Miller, but it seems he stayed banged up his senior year.  Right now, we've got Jovon as pretty much the obvious starter.  After that, it's The Rock and Carry-on.  I don't see either of those as big or durable enough to be an every down back if JR goes down.

Any of you recruiting geeks know of anymore RB's on Auburn's radar?

I don't see any? But from this high up it is hard to see anything anyways.

My thoughts are that we will likely go no back and spread the field and let Jeremy Johnson's arm go to work.

Revolutionizing the bubble screen and quick screen game mixed with the 50 yard all go routes is gonna present an interesting challenge to opposing defenses.

I'm pretty sure he (Miller)  projects as a H-Back.  I think Barber leaving took them by surprise. We have suddenly gone from not enough carries to go around to being 1 or 2 injuries from a REAL problem at RB.  Let's all hope JR  stays healthy next season.

You don't post often...but when you do....

Seriously, they need to focus on getting a couple of RB's in this class.

This was as much of the reason the offense never quite clicked as anything else imnsho.  Two True Freshmen trying to lead block.

Pettway will catch on at the next level. Good hands too. Can't improve if he only sees a few snaps per game. The RBs are good but no marquee breakaway type that turns heads or opposing Ds have to uberscheme to stop.

If JR goes down, the alarm goes off.  And he was injured part of last year.  Roc has apparently been 3rd string for a reason.  No way Carry-on is built to be the featured back in this offense.  Aaaannnd a 3 star true freshman.

Big deal. At least we roll 5 deep at QB.

Would like to see us get the break away guy that jmar spoke of but another Barber to replace Barber would be nice too. I don't think there should be any panic. I've seen less depth at RB and I have confidence we'll have another 1k rusher.

How many times have we seen the starter change? We assume JR is the man and I think he should be. But, I feel like Carry On and Roc will get their fair share too, even barring a Robinson injury.

Meanwhile UGA get's three feature backs from instate every year-durability not their skrongsuit but we could build a nice sitting porch for Granny if need be for some extra incentive.

We talking a bruiser that can take it to da house WT...not a third down specialist. We all like Barber.
