JEFFERSON COUNTY, Alabama - A convicted sex offender is back in jail after authorities say he exposed himself to customers in the parking lot of a Pinson grocery store.
On May 2, Jefferson County sheriff's officials received reports of a man exposing himself outside of Food Giant on Alabama 75. Three days later, on May 5, the same man was seen inside the grocery store with a small child, said Chief Deputy Randy Christian.
Someone at the store took photographs of the man, his car and his license plate. Those photos were turned over to detectives.
Investigators tracked the car registration to a woman living at the same address as 41-year-old John Allen Racine. Witnesses identified Racine as the man exposing himself in the parking lot.
On Wednesday, authorities charged Racine with indecent exposure and violation of the sex offender act. He was arrested at his home in the 5700 block of Walnut Grove in Pinson.
Racine was originally convicted in Florida of lewd exhibition in 2008. That incident involved a 12-year-old boy.
Racine remained in the Jefferson County Jail Thursday with bonds totaling $21,000. "These types are the reason Sheriff Hale successfully fought to make the convicted sex offender laws in Alabama the toughest in the country,'' Christian said. "This is another example of the fact that this class of offender is prone to re-offend. There ought to be a special place just for them."
