ABC News - Alleged Hit Man Confesses to 30 Murders (ABC News)
A man arrested for a single murder in rural Alabama has confessed to at least 30 murders throughout the United States, revealing a vast network of illegal drug deals and murders for hire, police said.

Already, police in Florida and California say they have confirmed Jose Martinez's alleged involvement in 13 killings after he confessed details only someone at the scene of the murders would know, Lawrence County Alabama Sheriff Gene Mitchell told ABC News.com.

Taken into custody two weeks ago, Martinez, an alleged hit man for a Mexican drug cartel whom police describe as "an enforcer whose job it was to collect money or kill those who didn't pay," has been cooperating with police, confessing to a string of crimes that spanned decades.

It wasn't a drug deal but what police say was a personal vendetta that landed Martinez, 52, in a rural Alabama jail.

He is accused of shooting Jose Ruiz in the head for insulting his daughter and then dumping Ruiz's body on the edge of the woods in Lawrence County, Ala., in March.

Cops had suspected Martinez at the time of the crime, but did not have evidence to charge him and he fled to Mexico. Two weeks ago, Martinez, a U.S. citizen and California resident, was caught sneaking across the border from Mexico near Yuma, Ariz.

Authorities there extradited him to Alabama, where he confessed first to killing Ruiz, then to two more murders in Florida, and eventually to 30, including 11 in California alone.

"In the course of interviewing him on [the Ruiz] murder, we developed a good rapport," Mitchell said. "He felt comfortable talking to our investigator and in the course of those conversations, he mentioned he had done some other things."

Among those other things was a 2006 murder in Ocala, Fla., in which a cigarette was found at the scene with DNA that matched Martinez.

Though charged with murder, Martinez does not have an attorney and has not asked for one during a series of interviews, Mitchell said. He has not yet entered a plea.

Instead the accused murderer seems to want to unburden himself, police said, even though he will likely face the death penalty.

"I would suppose he doesn't have a lot of folks he can talk to," Mitchell said. "Everyone needs someone to vent to and he hit it off with our investigator."

Mitchell said Martinez was "likable, but that doesn't excuse his lifestyle."

That's some scary shit.

I had a student a few years ago who was a 17 year old freshman.  He was an illegal and before the school year began, I sat down with an administrator and two police officers and they told me that this kid was known to be working with a cartel distribution gang in the local area and that the kid's sole intention was to sell drugs to kids at the high school.  They wanted me to look out for any journal entries or other writing that may connect him to it so that they could expel him and one day deport him.

He was a cool kid.  He never did shit in class, but he wasn't dumb by any means.  I think he was deported when he turned 18.

Did you even read your own post or did you just see the name Jose Martinez and assume he was illegal?

I think he was pointing out that a killer of epic proportions was caught sneaking INTO OUR COUNTRY!

Makes you wonder how many are NOT caught!

And he is not an illegal alien, but he is a criminal. I feel both are the same (criminals). Sad that you do not.

This is as good a place to post this as any.

An open letter to Republicans from AUChizad:

After losing the 2012 election, there was a lot of rhetoric about evolving as a party. Specifically, it became obvious to Republican strategists that the Hispanic vote, which once favored Republicans, was a valuable and attainable demographic that Republicans claimed they would start trying to pay a little bit of attention to. Marco Rubio was set to be a leader in this movement.

He offers what, in my opinion, is a very fair and level-headed Immigration Bill, and the conservatives that I follow on Twitter at least, are all shitting with rage, declaring him dead to the Republican party.

What the bleeding fuck is wrong with you people?

Rubio's bill proposes stronger border security and a 13 year path to citizenship. Requiring them to learn English is a part of this process. That is not "amnesty".

In order to prevent illegal immigration, you have to make legal immigration not virtually impossible.

I look at immigration the same way I look at marijuana, or alcohol prohibition, the second amendment, or any other similar issue. Obviously, there is a lot of getting around the law as it currently exists. If you make "the right way" reasonable and attainable, you will cut out a vast majority of illegal activity.

Do you think the immigration policy, particularly as it pertains to Mexicans, is perfect in its present form? How long do you think this broken system can be sustained? If Rubio's proposal isn't embraced by Republicans, A) You will lose the hispanic vote, probably forever, as you have the black vote, and B) A Democrat WILL eventually get the votes for a much more lenient plan that is true amnesty.

The choice is yours.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Yep. Believe it or not, I got pretty high marks in the reading retention. Even though Mr. Martinez was a legal resident, his name is Martinez, he worked for the Mexican drug cartel, etc, etc. so I thought it was a little ironic. Call me crazy! Did you read my post?

Sorry, but not every swinging dick on this planet needs to be granted citizenship because they can sign their name on a dotted line.  There should be some sort of standard.  We have enough issues with our own fucktarded citizens.  I don't want to add another country's problem to the list.  If you keep the bar somewhat high, you're more than likely going to get respectable folks who are serious about coming here and being productive members of society.

I know you're not saying that we should just open the gates and let everybody through, but I'm just not sure how much you would want to lower the standards.

The immigration bill in the 80s, much like this one, gave amnesty now with the promise of securing the border. The second never happened but the first did. That's why people are skeptical. And with good reason. From all accounts, Reagan felt very duped by the bait n switch. Most consider it a failure. And today's bill is almost a carbon copy.

End all immigration.

Require all citizens -- even those born here -- to speak standard English.  If they can't send them to camps.  The roads would be so much less crowded, but the camp would have to be as big as Alaska.  And maybe it should be there.  If they can walk back from Alaska and pass a standard English proficiency test then they can come home.

Do you not see what the 1986 bill caused? Illegal immigration went up exponentially, the border was never closed and were right back at the problem again except it worse. Reagan never would have agreed to sign it if he had known that. It was a disaster.

Real talk though? No one knows what will happen if this thing is passed. Lot Of theory and promises are out there in it but seeing how what happened in 1986 with a very similar bill, I don't blame people for being skittish. Once bitten and all. On paper is one thing, what will actually happen is what scares people.
