Quote
In an interview with Music Radar Tuesday, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine dished on his support for Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum:

Earlier in the election, I was completely oblivious as to who Rick Santorum was, but when the dude went home to be with his daughter when she was sick, that was very commendable. Also, just watching how he hasn't gotten into doing these horrible, horrible attack ads like Mitt Romney's done against Newt Gingrich, and then the volume at which Newt has gone back at Romney… You know, I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I'm hoping that if it does come down to it, we'll see a Republican in the White House ... and that it's Rick Santorum.

A spokesman for Rick Santorum's presidential campaign did not immediately respond for a request for comment.

For Mustaine, who hopes "whatever is in the White House next year is a Republican," candidates Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul just don't cut it.

On Gingrich:

[W]atching Newt Gingrich, I was pretty excited for a while, but now he's just gone back to being that person that everybody said he was — that angry little man. I still like him, but I don't think I'd vote for him.

Paul:

I like the guy because he knows how to excite the youth of America and fill them in on some things. But when he says that we're like the Taliban… I'm sorry, Congressman Paul, but I'm nothing like the Taliban.

Romney:

I was floored the other day to see that Mitt Romney's five boys have a $100 million trust fund. Where does a guy make that much money?

I'm glad that you posted this article, dj; I had been giving Santorum a second look lately and I heard this story on one of the talk shows that I listen to very recently.  And at the time that this incident happened to Santorum in the lead-up to the Florida Primary I recall thinking similarly e.g. that this man has his priorities in order when it comes to his family.  That is a good way of thinking for any man.

Of course, that means nothing to the MSM; they will still eviscerate him for his Catholic social beliefs.

They shouldn't.  What they should hammer him on was his statement in the first SC debate last year when he said that he would vote against a bill that called for us to cap and balance and that he would vote no on  a bill that was against raising the debt ceiling.

I've always been intrigued by Megadeth. My Literature teacher spent the last month of our senior year playing Megadeth and Metallica as a form of poetry. Actually very interesting and intelligent lyrics. So, when I saw this article I felt the need to share. It seems that since Gingrich has been losing a lot of steam, Santorum has been benefiting. This also goes to show us that Romney just isn't cutting the mustard for many. I myself would vote for Santorum before Romney. I guess I'm kind of warming up to the guy a little bit and it's pretty much been about the time as it was for yourself and Dave Mustaine.

That's why they'll hammer him on the social issues.

Glad you reminded me of those comments though.

Gingrich has already been declared the political walking dead twice in this campaign season...maybe the third time will be a charm for him.  Who knows?  I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon...at least not until the Georgia Primary.

He and Santorum have been splitting the non-Romney conservatives since South Carolina but I think that Santorum is gaining steam (until the Planned Parent-hood thugs beat him down...and those feminazis are merciless!  Just ask the folk at Susan G. Komen Foundation.).
