Tale in national spotlight, thanks to Clinton

All of a sudden, seems as if everybody's talking about Barack Obama and Tony Rezko. Even Jay Leno.

Rezko already was a big story in Chicago, accused of influence-peddling in the Blagojevich administration and set to face trial Feb. 25.

GarMan,

I've been following this story for a while but I did not think that anyone was interested.  The best website for tracking the high-jinks of Obama's Syrian-American friend Tony Rezko is www.rezkorama.com and he's as corrupt as the day is long.  Yet another sleazy example of South Side Chicago politics.

Here's my original post on this one just after the Texas primary (as I recall) on 6 March 2008:

For you reading pleasure, I really could not help but laugh when I found this website:

Obama is really going to have a problem on his hands in his friendly association with Rezko.  This guy is a sleazy as any of Hillary's friends.

Of course this brings to mind the question how many corrupt friends does it take for the Main Stream Media to recognize a potential flaw in a candidate?  (Oh, this is Barack Obama we're talking about...what flaw?!)

The list so far:

Rev. Jeremiah Wright
Father Michael Pfleger
Bernardine Dorhn
William Ayers

I know...  I just think that it's interesting how these things are always popping up at key points in his campaign.  Rezko was just found guilty yesterday.  Hillary still hasn't conceded, and she's planning to retain her delegates through the weekend rather than pledging them over to Obama.  It's like she's waiting for something.  Perhaps, Obama has even more that has yet to be uncovered, and she's expecting to take back some of his delegates prior to the DNC.

I would NEVER count out the Clinton Political Machine...she's buying time to figure something out between now and the convention and consolidate her political position.  She is not going to end her campaign...her political hack friend (and Clinton apologist) Lanny Davis said yesterday on the Laura Ingraham show that she will "suspend" her campaign and he went into pains to explain the legal meaning of that term and what political positioning that allows her between now and the convention (it made my ears bleed to listen to it).  She's triangulating.  She's got some dirt on the Obama's.

Oh dear...it's hand-wringing time again as yet another Obama friend goes under the Obama bus...that is becoming a bumpy ride at this point.  Jim Johnson announced today that he would resign from the VP Steering Committee (Jim Johnson, Eric Holder, and Caroline Kennedy) ostensibly because of his ties with troubled mortgage lender Countrywide.  Obama was defending this guy yesterday and his campaign strategist David Axelrod was defending Johnson just this morning but by noon today he'd resigned.  This fine fellow was chosen by Obama to head his committee to find a VP...as Obama was questioned on the "questionable" ties this guy has with Countrywide (not to mention the questionable low and no interest loans for hundreds of thousands of dollars) he stumbled around explaining that "he doesn't vet his vetters".  Weak.

Here's an excerpt what Obama said in a statement (emphasis added by me):
Quote
"Jim did not want to distract in any way from the very important task of gathering information about my vice presidential nominee, so he has made a decision to step aside that I accept.  {He was probably asked to leave.} We have a very good selection process underway, and I am confident that it will produce a number of highly qualified candidates for me to choose from in the weeks ahead. I remain grateful to Jim for his service and his efforts in this process..."

Again, weak.

And here's an excerpt what Johnson said in a statement:
Quote
"I believe Barack Obama's candidacy for president of the United States is the most exciting and important of my lifetime," he said, according to a Bloomberg report. "I would not dream of being a party to distracting attention from that historic effort."

Here's link for the FoxNews article:
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/06/11/obamas-vp-selection-team-member-steps-aside-amid-controversy/

That list is getting longer and longer...

The list so far:

Tony Rezko
Rev. Jeremiah Wright
Father Michael Pfleger
Bernardine Dorhn
William Ayers
...

add to that:
Jim Johnson

Is Eric Holder next?

(He was a Clintonista AG at the time Clinton made the re-mark-ably (pun intended) suspicious pardon of Marc Rich: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Rich)
