Injury update: Coleman should return before end of spring; Hawthorne undergoing surgery

Defensive end Antonio Coleman, who suffered a cervical sprain on the final play of last Saturday's scrimmage, is doing well and should be back on the field before the end of spring practice, Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said today. Coleman is one of several Auburn players who were examined in Birmingham on Monday.

Here is an update on other injured Auburn players, some of whom were also examined in Birmingham:

* Sophomore wide receiver Tim Hawthorne is undergoing surgery today to repair a broken arm. He will miss the rest of spring practice but should be full-speed long before the start of preseason practice in August.

* Junior college transfer Chris Todd has no structural damage in his throwing shoulder. Doctors said he probably threw too much and should regain his arm strength. He could be throwing again by the end of the week, though it is uncertain whether he'll be ready to play in next Saturday's scrimmage..

* Sophomore H-back Mario Fannin suffered a separated shoulder in last Saturday's scrimmage and is not likely to practice again this spring. He should be full-speed before preseason practice.

* Senior tailback Tristan Davis, limping since his toe was stepped on last week, is not seriously injured and should be back at practice by the end of the week.

* Junior tailback Ben Tate (hamstring), sophomore wide receiver Chris Slaughter (hamstring) and freshman quarterback DeRon Furr (shoulder) are day-to-day.

Relative to their respective injuries, all sound like good outlooks.   Hate that for Tim, but he'll be ready down the road.

Probably most glad to hear that Tristan's toe isn't damaged tooooo badly again.  Geez...

Does TD have like a size 28 foot? One of those damn things are always getting in the way and getting hurt. Maybe some steel toed cleats are needed.

What has become of the Under Armour shoe rumor? Are we still getting guys with foot injuries? Are we still using Under Armour shoes?

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.
