Like Auburn, Ole Miss has their own junior-college transfer quarterback who has the potential to do wonderful things.

The big difference?

Cameron Newton arrived on Auburn’s campus in January, put together a strong spring and will carry the QB1 title into fall practice.

Randall Mackey, the National Junior College Player of the Year at East Mississippi Community College, didn’t enroll at Ole Miss until June.

Rebels coach Houston Nutt doesn’t expect Mackey to make up for lost time. Replacing Jevan Snead, who left after an unimpressive junior season only to go undrafted, will likely come down to Nathan Stanley, the current No. 1, and former Auburn commitment, Raymond Cotton.

The Auburn Tigers reached into their Halloween bag on Saturday afternoon and served up a heaping helping of tricks to the Ole Miss Rebels, knocking out the once and no time in the future number four team in the country 33-20.

Halloween was a fitting time for the Tigers to rise from the grave where they’d been planted after three straight abysmal performances and return to their previous slashing gory, err, glory.

The Ole Miss Rebels made the haunting day trek to Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium with the same youthful recklessness that spurs on teens in any typical slasher film to revisit the scene of previous carnage.

So I am a little late on my SEC preview part II, but good things come to those who wait, so I guess you’ll just have to keep waiting.

In my SEC East preview, I said that the SEC Champion and Potential BCS Champion would come from the Eastern Division (if you didn’t read part 1 or have been in a coma for the last few weeks, it’s the Florida Gators).  However, from top to bottom, the tougher division will likely be the Western Division, where all 3 of the top teams have a legitimate shot at facing Florida in the SEC championship game.
