AU BASEBALL: Morris signs with Brewers

We bid you good luck, Mr. Morris

As expected, Hunter Morris’ career at Auburn is over.

Morris inked a contract earlier this week with the Milwaukee Brewers, who drafted him in the fourth round of last week’s Major League Baseball Draft. Morris, who will report to the Brewers’ lower-A affiliate, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, received a $218,700 signing bonus, according to Baseball America.

Morris, who was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s first-team All-America team Wednesday, led the SEC in home runs (23), RBI (76), slugging (.743) and total bases (202) while helping Auburn win the SEC Western Division championship for the first time since 1995. His totals for home runs and total bases marked the most in school history, and his 105 hits were the third most by an Auburn player during a single season.

AU BASEBALL: Morris named SEC Player of the Year

Ladies and gentlemen your 2010 SEC Player of the Year: Hunter Morris

Auburn first baseman Hunter Morris has been named the SEC Baseball Player of the Year, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

Three other Tigers—outfielders Trent Mummey and Brian Fletcher and DH Kevin Patterson—were also named to the SEC’s First-Team.

Pitcher Cory Luckie was named the SEC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Mummey was also named to the All-Defensive Team.

Auburn also placed catcher Ryan Jenkins and pitcher Grant Dayton on the All-SEC Second-Team.

One award the Tigers didn’t not pickup, which many thought would have been a no-brainer, was in the Coach of the Year category. The SEC coaches selected Florida’s Kevin O’Sullivan as the conference’s Coach of the Year, and not Auburn’s John Pawlowski.
