Prepare to Kneel: Auburn’s Heisman Trophy winners to be honored with statues outside Jordan-Hare Stadium

The rumors are true. (HarveyWatch: Threat Level Midnight.)

In an email sent to Auburn fans Wednesday night, Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacob’s announced production on statues honoring Auburn’s three Heisman Trophy winners.

According to Jacobs, the bronze statues of Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson, and Cam Newton will be one and one-half times life size and weigh approximately 1,900 pounds each. Foundations for the statues, which will be unveiled at some point in the 2011-2012 academic year, are already under construction outside the east side of Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Commissioned with the task of rendering the Auburn Adoni is Montana sculptor Ken Bjorge, who began work on the Sullivan and Jackson statues last spring. (We can only hope the Bo statue looks exactly, exactly, exactly like this.)

A more consistent Newton impresses at Pro Day

Newton was much more impressive in Auburn's Pro-Day completeing 50-60 passes with 3 drops

Cam Newton’s third major workout of the draft season came in a controlled environment, in a stadium he knew, with receivers he was familiar with and with the eyes of the 125 NFL personnel present fixed squarely upon him.

The Heisman winner served as the grand finale for Auburn’s Pro Day at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Tuesday, finishing up the five-hour affair by tossing around 65 passes to former targets such as Darvin Adams, Terrell Zachery and Kodi Burns.

Newton ran the gamut of passing situations — rolling out, three-step drop, seven-step drop, shifting the pocket — threw to all corners of the field — outs, ins, flats, flags, posts, crosses, curls, seams — and only failed to complete about 10 of his balls.

It was an improvement on his 11-for-21 performance at the NFL Combine.

WON & DONE: Newton headed to NFL

The news that most Auburn fans fully expected — but didn’t want to hear — dropped Thursday night.

Heisman winner Cam Newton is going pro.

“This decision was difficult for me and my family,” Newton said in a university release. “After talking to Coach (Gene) Chizik and Coach (Gus) Malzahn, I think it is best that I make that next step in my career and forgo my senior season and enter the NFL Draft.

“It was a very hard decision for me, especially after coming off the great season we had at Auburn. I’m blessed to have been around an excellent environment and have great teammates, coaches and support from the Auburn family.”

Newton, who started his college career at Florida and transferred to Auburn from Blinn (Texas) College, made quite the impression in his one year with the Tigers.
