BCS and Season Reflections

Auburn is looking to improve its Defense for 2012, the new DC Van Gorder should help with that.

It begins with defense 2010 was an anomaly.  But not in the way Bama fans want you think.  There are those who claim Auburn was a one-year wonder, but if that’s the case there are a lot of those over the past 20 years.  Perennial “powerhouses” Ohio State, Michigan, Texas and Oklahoma have exactly the same number of national titles as the Tigers in the past two decades.  Where Auburn’s 2010 title differed was in defense.  The Tigers are the only team in the past 20 years to win a title while surrendering an average of more than 20 points per game.  Auburn allowed an average of 24 in 2010.  Fourteen of the last twenty title holders allowed double digits, but only LSU’s 2007 squad (19.9 per game) came close to bumping 20.

Thoughts Week 11 – Aww f@#$ It!

Lee Corso cursing on live TV somehow exemplify's Auburn's Season this year.

Lee Corso set the tone.

Auburn…

- Auburn hasn’t played this season.  I didn’t go to any games, so I can’t be sure that what I’ve seen on TV wasn’t some fancy PIXAR presentation.

- I saw Auburn play four games last year.  I know Cam Newton exists.  Whether or not he’s a cyborg is a different topic.

- Because Auburn isn’t playing this season, the Iron Bowl must not be happening next week.

College Football…

- Robert Griffin III is the best player in college football.  Baylor?  BAYLOR?  I mean, come on.  We talkin’ bout Baylor.  Baylor.

- Trent Richardson is going to win the Heisman.

- Alabama is going to have the easiest path to the BCSCG.

- LSU may or may not beat Arkansas and Georgia.

Thoughts Week …Whatever!

I think Georgia just scored again...

Auburn…

- You really think this is excusable?  You think this is acceptable?  You think Georgia just beat us?

- Georgia didn’t just beat us.  I told a friend of mine that it’s wrong to say the final was 45-7.  That wasn’t the final score.  This game was over with 9 minutes left in the 2nd quarter.  It was over.  We were done.

- You say we have youth issues?  Offensive linemen don’t have experience?  Georgia has played the 2nd most true freshmen in the SEC, and they’re headed to the SEC championship game.

- You say our defense is still getting their footing?  Obvious fundamentals and techniques not taught.  Just not there.  Commentators rarely make salient points about the actual game, but they were sure quick to point out some of the flaws in our defensive play – not scheme.

Auburn tries to regroup after Saturday’s blowout

Dyer and the Tigers couldn't get anything going against Georgia this past Saturday

Your average football fan would look at Auburn’s homecoming matchup with Samford this weekend and see an easy win for the Tigers.

After watching his team’s 45-7 dismantling at the hands of Georgia on Saturday, Gene Chizik is not your average football fan.

“If you saw us play yesterday,” the Auburn head coach said, “we’re not supposed to beat anybody.”

The Tigers suffered their most lopsided loss in 15 years — the worst since 1946 to their oldest rival — and have now suffered two losses of 35 points or more in the same season for the first time since 1950.

The first blowout, a 45-10 loss to top-ranked LSU, was kind of understandable.

The second one, to then-No. 15 Georgia, was less so.
