Dyer good to go vs. Arkansas

After being dinged up at South Carolina, Dyer is ready to run over Arkansas.

Running back Mike Dyer is “doing fine” after tweaking his ankle against South Carolina, Auburn head coach Gene Chizik said Tuesday.

Dyer hurt his ankle midway through the third quarter against the Gamecocks — after his 25th carry of the night — and hobbled off the field.

He returned to carry 16 more times and finish off his 41-rush, 141-yard performance.

Chizik said the Little Rock, Ark., native is good to go.

“He’s going to practice as normal, as usual,” Chizik said. “He’ll be excited to play, and, obviously, going back to Arkansas, it will be exciting to play.”

Dyer leads the Tigers with 103 carries for 567 yards and seven touchdowns this year.

He ran six times for 53 yards — including a 38-yard touchdown — against the Razorbacks last season.

Auburn banged up at receiver

Auburn's leading receiver Emory Blake, could miss this weeks Arkansas game after getting hurt at S. Carolina

No. 15 Auburn could be without two of its leading receivers when it faces No. 10 Arkansas this week.

Head coach Gene Chizik said redshirt freshman Trovon Reed will miss his second straight game with a shoulder injury and junior Emory Blake is “day-by-day” after injuring his right ankle in the third quarter against South Carolina on Saturday.

Chizik didn’t have a definite timetable for the return of Reed, who hurt his shoulder on a punt return in the fourth quarter of the Florida Atlantic game.

Reed caught 13 passes for 91 yards in the season’s first four games, also returning eight punts for 42 yards.

Blake injured his right foot on a 2nd-and-13 pass play at the end of the third quarter Saturday, in which he was hit by a Gamecock defensive back and had his ankle rolled up underneath a defender.

Tigers hang on for series-clinching win

Casey McElroy earned POTW status in helping the Tigers take 2 from the #9 Razorbacks

Auburn right fielder Justin Fradejas told teammates before Sunday’s series finale against Arkansas that he was going to throw a runner out at home.

In that sense, it wasn’t much different from any other game day.

“Pretty much every day I say I’m going to try to throw somebody out at the plate,” Fradejas said. “They kind of get on me sometimes for missing (cutoffs), but I guess I’ve got that mentality sometimes, where I want to get that guy out at the plate if I’m able to get him out.”

Fradejas made good on his promise in a most dramatic fashion Sunday, nailing the potential tying run at the plate to give the Tigers two outs in the ninth.

Thoughts on week 4

By: Townhallsavoy

It’s what keeps college football interesting.  The unpredictable outcomes of what seems to be predictable matchups is what keeps butts on the seats and eyes on the TVs.  It’s why there are 40 hours of college football analysis throughout the week – someone is trying to make sense of it all.  It’s why coaches have to gameplan 7 days a week and players have to practice every possible second.

Unpredictable and unbelievable.

Auburn…

- Unpredictable – South Carolina has (had) the SEC’s #1 rushing defense.  The experts look at this statistic and say, “Auburn will have a difficult time running the football, and they’re going to have to rely on Cam Newton’s arm to have a shot at winning.”  335 yards later, I’d say we crushed the heart of their defense.
