AU ROUNDUP: Four Tigers selected to All-Regional baseball team
Justin Fradejas, Ryan Jenkins, Hunter Morris and Trent Mummey were each voted to the 2010 NCAA Auburn Regional All-Regional Team.
Auburn’s right fielder, Fradejas led the team with a .450 batting average, nine hits and eight runs scored while also tying for the team lead in RBI with seven. Defensively, he had a .917 fielding percentage, making 11 putouts.
Jenkins, Auburn’s everyday catcher, hit .368 with two doubles, two walks, a RBI and three runs scored at the plate while behind it, he held the other three regional opponents to just one stolen base and also successfully picked a runner off first.
Auburn’s first baseman, Morris hit .318 with a double, two home runs, five runs scored and six RBI. In Sunday’s 17-8 win over Southern Miss, he blasted his 23rd home run of the season, a grand slam that put Auburn ahead for good at 9-6.
Mummey was named the All-Region designated hitter as he went 7-for-21 (.333) with a Regional-high five doubles while also hitting two home runs, scoring six runs and driving in seven RBI.
Swimming’s Anderson honored
Auburn swimmer Jordan Anderson continues to be recognized for his academic achievements as he was named to the ESPN The Magazine’s
Academic All-America Men’s At-Large First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) office announced Tuesday.
Anderson, a Roanoke, Va., native, graduated from Auburn in May with a degree in biomedical sciences. This spring, he was named the 2010 H. Boyd McWhorter Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year and in the fall of 2009 earned the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.
Anderson will study at Oxford University in the fall of 2010. He is a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and a four-time Auburn Academic Top Tiger.
Anderson has also earned College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Academic Team accolades and is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies.
Athletically, Anderson is a four-time All-American and a SEC champion. This season, he recorded three All-America honors at the 2010 NCAA Championships and was a member of the 2010 SEC Champion 200 medley relay squad. Anderson is also a two-time SEC silver medalist in the 100 fly.
