Under Armour Game
« on: January 02, 2010, 11:23:17 AM »
Anybody watching? So far, its been all black team. Michael Dyer has looked good on a few runs so far, and Cody Parkey has missed a PAT and a 22 yard field goal. Other than that, haven't really seen any action out of any commits/tagets for either side.

Even thought Michael Dyer has only seen just a few carries, he looks head and shoulders above Mack Brown. It really doesn't look like an OL matter either. Brown just doesn't run as strong.

Dyer is PURE lightening.  As you said, head and shoulders above Brown.  Wow.

Cody Parkey on the other hand is a complete head case.  2 missed extra points and missed a 22 yard field goal.

UPDATED:  Just attempted a 47 yarder but didn't have enough leg.

BTW, my boy Adrian Hubbard will be a DE at SPuat.  Go ahead and write that down in your signature.  Also, Fulton is a better Cornerback than Milliner...IMO, Milliner should be a WR, not a CB.  Someone that shys away from contact, shouldn't be playing on the defensive side of the ball, that's just my opinion.

I really don't see Hubbard as anything but a Jack LB. As for a full-time DE? Not at Alabama. I could be wrong, but I think I will be right on this one. He is pretty damn quick. Fulton and Milliner are both good CBs. I saw a play or two where Milliner actually got beat, then covered ground to make the play. I don't think anybody completed a pass against him, including Antonio Goodwin. Fulton did look pretty damn impressive though. I mean, Milliner had a good game. But Fulton stood out.

Nope...you're going to be wrong about Hubbard, you'll see.  Milliner has the speed, there's no question about that.  But, Milliner had been getting beat during the practices too, but the evaluators state that he's got the potential to be really good...So, I guess that means the recruiting services are now able to look into the future to know how great a prospect is going to be, because if they didn't then surely they wouldn't rate some as one of the Top prospects at their position on a assumption of how they'll be in the future.

BTW, I just noticed where Milliner isn't the #1 ranked CB anymore...looks like someone actually sat down and watched some of his games, not just his camp numbers.

Here's how the Top HS Cornerbacks should look:
1. Joshua Shaw (Like I've said this whole time, Rivals has him at #3)
2. John Fulton (Rivals has him at #4)
3. DeMarcus Milliner (Rivals has him at #2)
4. Lamarcus Joyner (Rivals has him at #1)

From some of the ESPN articles I read, they were actually saying that he was one of the standouts from practice, and they were sort of surprised for him not being a natural CB. Either way, #2 isn't shabby. For that matter, I saw Joyner get burned 2-3 times on plays. Nobody completed a pass on Milliner. I don't see how moving from #1 to #2 constitutes some kind of eye opening revelation from a recruiting service or something. But, as with any recruit, its all subjective to how he does when he actually gets in college. He is an early enrollee, so he will get some work before Spring practice.

The good thing on the DBs is, while we have some folks graduating at the position, we're not in a jam or anything. I mean, we're going to need some young guys to step up, but we're not in a "fuck, what are we going to do?" type situation right now.

Yeah, something like that....

Seriously though, if you take a look at it, its not a doomsday scenario or anything. We lose 5 scholarship DBs next season; one is a starting CB (Arenas), and one a starting Safety (Woodall). The other 3 are backups. Marquis Johnson is a situational guy. It depends on the package whether he plays or not.

Robby Green should do well for Woodall. Anytime he has came in this season he has played very well. Woodson might factor in there if he can get the mental part of it down. Dre Kirkpatrick should do well if he keeps up what he's doing. We may finally see BJ Scott emerge in some sort of role. A wildcard here is how useable is Phelon Jones? He busted for the most part at LSU, and if our coaches can do something with him, that would ease things up a little. Then we have 5-6 freshman DBs coming in. I say 5-6 because who knows if they will move Keenan Allen to WR or not. Out of that group, two are 5* and three are 4*.

The only problem there is, if the majority of that group doesn't work out, we may be up shit creek for 2011. However, I have faith in our staff's evaluation of anybody on the defensive side of the ball. I'm not saying there will be absolutely no dropoff or anything, but we're not screwed either.
