The Spread...This Ain't Nuthin' New
« on: September 14, 2008, 09:39:18 PM »
Let me start by saying that very few people realize that Auburn could very well have been playing for the MNC in 2007 if....

No, this is not stereotypical Bammie propaganda.  This team was 9-4 last year.  Losses were:

USF
MSU
LSU
UGA

Now, out of those losses, what game was the only game we got our asses handed to us?  If you said Georgia, you just won an all-expense paid trip to the Gardendale Wal Mart.

Now, out of the 3 remaining losses, you do realize that if we had ANYTHING better than what?.....the 109th rated offense in the nation, we would have won all of them handily.  USF was an overtime loss with Brandon Cox looking like my grandmother all game.  MSU...the Blue jerseys Brandon, the Blue jerseys.  LSU..last second miracle pass to beat us.  Can anyone honestly say that if we had the capability of scoring just 1...ONE more TD per game...if our offense was even half what our D was last year..we wouldn't be in Atlanta and beyond?

Enter Tony Franklin, stage left.  In one sense, I was pumped because I thought if nothing else, this gives us that little extra we need.  It may not be incredibly succesful but with our defense, we should be able to put distance between us and anyone we play.  I even admiited this was a 2 year at best, experiment, because this is just not AU football.  But like most, the Clemson game had me hyped as hell for this season.  We've got the SPREAD GURU coming in here and it's time to shine, bitches.

Now, here's the problem.  I look around the country and guess what?  Just about every fucking team I've seen on TV is running some variation of the spread.  I've seen Oregon, Texas, Texas Tech, West Virginia, SMU, Rice, South Carolina...now Michigan (Yeah, they suck) and on and on.  Watch games and tell me what you see.  Every freakin' team out there is lining up in the gun and spreading them out.

And for some strange reason, we've got the guy who wrote the fucking book, and we run it worse than anyone in the country.  WHY???  QB? Play calling? What is it??  I need answers.  I know it's not talent because no one can convince me we don't have a butt load of that.  Why is this shit not clicking when everyone else in the world who runs it has at least some success?

Dissention man... dissention.  Players are getting frustrated, I'm not there, but you can read the quotes in the paper by Coleman and Dunn.  You can even watch Dunn in the replay swat at that waaaaaay underthrown ball by Todd.  You can see Hawthorne's frustration by being wide ass open and Todd dumping it to a RB for a 1 yd gain.

The past 3 weeks, there have been a lot of tremors and I for one, think that the volcano is about to erupt and it will not be a pretty sight.

I told ssgaufan earlier today, I had rather go 7-5 or 6-6 with Kodi than JUCO Todd, just for the overall experience factor.

Give the team something to rally around, especially the defense.  That way all of the players understand that they are making a good investment with a dual threat player.

my .02 cents

I've been to a practice and a scrimmage.  I've gone to both home games and watched that shit last night.  WHAT the hell do they see in Todd that's better than Kodi?  He's just not!! Kodi just flat out gives us a better chance to win and I really believe the guy will develop into a top notch SEC quarterback.  Yes, he'd have growing pains but damn, last night was just plain painful!!!

OSU is having the same problem now with Boeckman (sp?) and Prior.  They were talking about it last night, saying just go ahead and give the keys to Prior, and let him go through the growing pains now.  Then next year they would have a smooth running offense.

No it's not ''Bammie propaganda, it's ''aubie'' propaganda.
Come on if we woulda scored, we coulda?
Yea, same can be said about Bama as well. Our biggest point loss was 7 ,last year.  Had we scored just ''one'' touchdown each game we would have been undefeated.
And who has a  delusional fan base?

Yea, and if Arksas, Houston, Mississippi, and Colaroda had of scored 7 more points..............
While we are at it, let's continue this absurd logic that is common amost the Crimson faithful..........
If UAT had of scored more points in and "won" the 2nd half against Auburn in 2007.
If UAT had of won the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters against Auburn in 2006.
If UAT had of won the 2nd half against Auburn in 2005.
If Jason Campbell had of sprained his ankle getting off the team bus and UAT could have won the 4th quarter, UAT could have beat Auburn.......ha,ha just kidding, there was no fucking way UAT could have beat Auburn in 2004.

I am beginning to see a pattern after only four years.

The reason the system is not working at AU yet is b/c the talent is not there...There is good talent there, but its not the correct talent for this offense (Why do you think AU haS recruited a bunch of quick WRs under 6'0")...I told people that before the season started, and it is evident now...and Tubbs does not need to interfere with the offense (except maybe making Burns the starter) thats why it worked at Troy b/c Blakeney gave Franklin free range, and yes it takes a while for "The Tony Franklin System" to work, but once everyone gets used to it ,it is worth it.

We have change also. It will take a few years to get the players for Petrino's system. Saban is getting his guys. Spurrier is still getting his. Myles, too.
There has been a lot of changes in the SEC in the last few years in the way of offensive strategy. It should be a thing of beauty in a few more years.
The drawback as I see it is we beat ourselves up so much, an SEC team will be hard pressed to attain the win/loss record to play for the MNC.
