Title: A Few Nuggets...
Post by: AuburnChopper 3.0 on January 16, 2010, 06:21:55 PM
I'm paraphrasing a few things from a premium board, but a few notes without copying directly.... (per Bryan Matthews after interview with Chizik at the basketball game today.)

1. Tyrik Rollison, Eric Smith and John Douglas have all been reinstated to the team and are in class.

2. Cam Henderson has left the team and is expected to transfer.

3. Spencer Pybus, Adam Herring and Vance Smith have officially ended their football careers due to injuries.

4. Aairon Savage has applied and is expected to receive a 6th year of eligibilty.

5. Mike McNeil is participating in winter workouts and is expected to be at full speed for spring practice.

He reports also that LA Tech has NOT contacted (officially anyway) Gus Malzhan, and that Chizik expects the entire staff to return this next season.

FYI - Jason Caldwell had these same notes on Scout, but was asked if the medical casualties effected the number of scholarships available.

His answer was that it would open up those three scholarships, and those players would be put on medical hardship scholarships to complete school.

For someone in the know...

Does that mean, we go from our open six slots to nine for THIS year?

Generally speaking, when kids are granted medical hardships, that opens scholarships on the overall number of 85.  That's how a lot of back counters made it in for Saban over the last 3 years.

The open slots only pertain to the 85 Limit.  Auburn can still only sign 28.

And on that note....any idea who the three greyshirt/placement players are likely to be?  We can take in 28, but only 25 can be added to the roster right? (plus the 5 that count towards last year).

Spencer Pybus had problems with concussions, which isn't good, given the position that he plays.  I told yall this about 2 months ago.

For what it's worth, the Radio Shack store brand batteries are not as good as Energizer.
