Title: Florida football
Post by: jadennis on January 14, 2010, 03:59:36 PM
So this is partly about recruiting, but more about the Florida program right now.  It's pretty damn amazing to me that the head coach can be on a "indefinite leave of absence", and the program is strong enough to still have the best recruiting class in the country.

Look at the ESPN recruiting ratings.

Florida has 15 commitments from ESPN150 players.  To just look that far, that may not seem incredible, since Texas has 13 and Alabama has 10.

But if you look closer, the quality of those ESPN150 players is ridiculous.

Look at this breakdown and see how the Florida class distances itself from the others as you look at the top end of the class...

ESPN150 players:
Florida - 15
Texas - 13
Alabama - 10

Players rated an 81 or higher:
Florida - 16
Texas - 12
Alabama - 10

Players rated an 83 or higher:
Florida - 11
Texas - 4
Alabama - 4

Players rated an 85 or higher:
Florida - 5
Texas - 0
Alabama - 0

Same goes for Rivals ratings.

Number of Rivals100 players:
Florida - 10
Texas - 6
Alabama - 8

Number in the Top 50:
Florida - 6
Texas - 3
Alabama - 2

Number in the Top 30:
Florida - 5
Texas - 1
Alabama - 2

They are just in a world of their own right now.  I hate them.

Urban Meyer is like Bill Clinton - virtually bulletproof. Bama fans wish the Gators would go away and die but it won't be that easy to clear the field of the reptiles even without St. Tebow.

Exactly....Meyer won with Alex Smith and Chris Leak too.  People act like Tebow has been starting for Meyer since the Bowling Green days.  Leak went 9-3, then 13-1 and a national title.  Tebow went 9-4, then 13-1 and a national title.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Brantley go 9-4 in 2010, and then 13-1 and a national title in 2011.  May not happen, but wouldn't be shocking.

No way.  Urbs is skeerd of Saban.  The guy at Five Guys with four Bama car flags, shoe-polished windshield and houndstooth car magnets told me so.

Before or after they asked you for spare change for gas money?
