Post by: Tiger Wench on December 26, 2009, 06:59:31 PM
ESPN reporting Urban Meyer resigning as head coach for health reasons after coaching Sugar Bowl.

Wow.

Losing Tebow is going to make him sick.

Maybe a joke...  Okay, but seriously hope the man is okay.  If it's personal for him, hope the best for him...

Shock..

Paging Nick Saban...
I really don't see that happening. I know its popular for AU fans to just automatically throw Saban's name out there for every coaching opening, but its never even close to being right. I know it gives you guys a warm fuzzy feeling to think Saban might leave, but I really don't think it will happen.

What would want to make him want to go to UF over Alabama? He has everything the way he wants it at Alabama, is making some damn good money, and will be playing in the BCSCG in a few weeks. He has the players he wants, and things are on cruise control right now. At UF? You're replacing ALOT of players on offense and defense, mainly offense. Alot of very talented starters. Unless you just want that big of a rebuilding job on your plate, I don't see where that move makes sense.

Yeah, absolutely, why would Saban want to leave when he can have all this?

Remember Coach Meyer had to go to the Hospital after the SEC Championship Game, supposedly for dehydration.  But, I've heard...from the skreets, of course....that he has been throwing up on the sidelines during some games this past year and that he has some sort of cyst on his brain that causes migraines and I'm guessing causes him to throw up if his blood pressure gets too high.  So yeah, it's definitely health related and he's probably just worn slap out.

By "skreets", you mean ESPN.....because they are sitting there talking about his cyst on his brain and whatnot.

Also, Lou Holtz just said "bitch and moan" on live TV. Awesomeness.

That made me laugh out loud.  Those were the only distinct words in the entire sentence - I have no idea what he was talking about, but I heard the bitch and moan part... then something about someone having an affair while they took their kids for ice cream and someone else writing about it... then something about pink ponies and choo choo trains...

According to ESPN, their sources tell them Meyer has been diagnosed with some sort of heart muscle defect. They say it is not life threatening.

The comment earlier in the day re: to a CB tackling a receiver before a pass was thrown was a zinger too.

Dr. Lou quickly chimed that there was more contact there than the Cirque de Solieu   (sp?)

Apparently the good doctor has been putting in some extra time during the lull brushing up on some new material.

By "skreets", you mean ESPN.....because they are sitting there talking about his cyst on his brain and whatnot.

They must read the X then....because I was watching the same College Football post bowl game talk and I heard them talk about the cyst on his brain, after I'd posted about it.  I also heard Dr. Lou go off on some sort of rabbit trail talking about internet message boards or blogs and how people will post things that aren't true and they aren't held accountable for what they post.

Anyway, more important things....
ESPN reads from the X.

Names being thrown out there:
Coach Bobby Petrino
Coach Kyle Whittingham
Coach Dan Mullens
Coach Charlie Strong
Coach Bob Stoops
Coach Mike Stoops

Yes, because you are the ONLY person other than Meyer that knows about his brain cyst.

Out of the list you gave, I think the most viable is Bob Stoops. UF needs somebody who can step in immediately and say "I'm Bob Stoops, bitch. Commit to me." and immediately calm nerves. Unless they want to make a disaster out of the next few seasons, they better come up with somebody like Stoops. And fast.

I think the only reason Whittingham is being mentioned is because of the connection to Meyer, and their matching philosophy.

I don't think Petrino is enough of a recruiter. Ah, hell, just ask Arky fans.......the man doesn't even need top players from his team's home state.

I just don't think you can give Mullens the keys to a program like UF. MSU, sure. But I think he would need a few more years of proving himself on his own.

Only if you can't get Bob Stoops or another viable option, Charlie Strong might work.

It has taken Mike Stoops 5 years to get a team to a 6-win season. I really don't think he's the man for UF.

If this is true, then it says something about the coaching market right now. Meyer picked a bad time to step down (bad time for UF, that is). All of the coach-swapping, for the most part, is already done. I would be pretty shocked if they brought Mullens back.

I don't think Coach Bob Stoops will be on the list, since it's being mentioned...per da skreets...that he is on Jerry Jones' short list to replace Coach Phillips, provided that Dallas doesn't make the Super Bowl.

This guy cherishes the glory moment of his past: scoring four touchdowns "in a single game" while playing for the fictional Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus fictional Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, “Spare Tire” Dixon (played by Bubba Smith in episode "All-Nite Security Dude").

RWS, you and I have two totally different perspectives about Dan Mullen.  I'm not happy he's in the West right now, he has made Miss State significantly better in his first year.  Likewise you can attribute at least a portion of Florida's past success to him, as they weren't as productive on offense without him this year.  I'd be much happier without him out of the SEC all together but he's staying.  Miss State hit it out of the park when they hired him.  Now they just have to figure out how to keep him.
Title: Re: Urban Meyer resigns
Post by: Birmingham on December 27, 2009, 09:23:15 AM
So in your book 4-7 is improvement?!? It makes you uncomfortable? About Miss. St?
But Auburn sucks and so does Chizik for going 7-5.

Your inconsistent bullpoop is becoming barely worth noting.

Where do I even start with this reply???  Don't confuse you and I when referring to people talking about how bad Auburn and Chizik suck.  First of all I never said it.  Your posts on Tidesports provided an entire series of Chizik hate sigs.  If I'm remembering right I only picked against Auburn 2, maybe 3, times the entire football season.  I obviously didn't think they sucked too bad.  Since I never said they sucked I guess I'll have to wonder what the hell you're talking about.

Secondly, improvements don't always show up in W's and L's.  Look at the teams Miss State were competitive with.  Hell, look at the teams they almost added to the W column.  Are you saying the 2009 team looked like the Selvester Croom squad that displayed the dazzling 3-2 loss against Auburn?  They are light years from where they were with Croom.
