Title: What will it take for AU to beat LSU?
Post by: Birmingham on October 19, 2009, 11:21:17 PM
Obviously Auburn's defense is gonna have to improve in order to be competitive with the upper-tier programs in the SEC.  That goes without saying.  What has to happen this week in order for Auburn to have the best of this match up?  I don't think LSU is as good as their record (as they have, as usual, been luckier than a dog with two tools).   I think this is a doable win for Auburn.  What has to happen this week?

The word is TIER, numbnuts.  Back to the basement with you...

And as for this weekend, two things have to happen.

#1 - LSU has to overlook us, and come out sleepwalking like they have so many times this year.  If a freaking miracle occurs and we are on our game, if we score a few times early, I am not sure if LSU recovers.  That is an amazing statement given the raw talent they have - but the talent is undercoached and just not sharp.  Jefferson would rather take a sack for a ten yard loss than get rid of the football. LaFell can catch, but only if Jefferson gets the ball within 5 yards of him, which has not happened a lot lately. And they have no run game. LSU may be rested but they are also coming off of a loss - and they did not score a TD on Florida.  Not sure if this fires them up or messes with their heads.

Personally?  I think Les Miles has turned into Frosty the Snowman caught in a strong cross wind.  Everyone, sing along now...

There must have been some magic in that old mesh hat he found
But when it got blown off of his head, he was just another clown...

BUT:

#2 - See part of #1 where I mention a freaking miracle.  90K+ screaming drunken coonasses on a Saturday night in October.  Sorry, son, I am fresh out of miracles.

Still, I say Auburn wins.

**SLURP**

Damn, that is some AWESOME orange and blue Kool-Aid!!!   :bounce:

My hate list is Texans, coonasses, and bammers and inbred combinations of the three. They do mingle around the Gulf Coast.

After a careful examination of the facts, I've come to the conclusion that the best way for Auburn to beat LSU is to have scored more points than the Bengals at the end of regulation play.

Defense needs to tackle
Defense needs to tackle
Offense has to score points
Minimize penalties to less than 100 yards
Chris Todd needs to remove the horseshoe
Defense needs to tackle

LSU will find a great running game Sat night.  Jordan Jefferson will probably be mentioned as a Heisman canidate too.

It shouldn't surprise anyone if they do.  Charles Scott is a bruiser.

Is it possible to have two new Heisman candidates emerge from one game?

Is it possible to go from 5-0 to ESPN's bottom 10?

It'll take the defense that played the last three quarters against West Virginia (complete with takeaways and all), and the offense that played against Tennessee (except fewer FGs in the red zone) and Mississippi State.

After we beat LSU, we need to beat Ole Miss and Georgia to be 5-2 in the SEC going into the Alabama game.

in the mean time, we need Alabama to lose to LSU on November 7th.

Then, when we beat Alabama, there will be a three-way tie at 6-2 for the SEC West (LSU, Alabama, Auburn).

We will have the tie breaker against both LSU and Alabama having beaten them both head to head.

We will then head to Atlanta to beat Florida (for the third straight time), throwing a wrench into Tim Tebow's Heisman trophy plans.

This will launch us into the BCS title game where we will be the second SEC team with 2 losses to play for the title in the last 3 years.

Auburn vs Texas, BCS Title Game, Thursday, January 7, 2010, Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA.

Yes, I am on drugs, two vicodin to be exact.

Okay, I know winning at LSU Saturday is not likely.  But it's not the long shot I get the feeling everyone thinks it is.

Let's do some of that mind-numbing "who beat who" bit to see if it gives some perspective.

This LSU team needed a goal line stand (and dumb-ass play calling from Mullen) to beat Mississippi State.

We destroyed MSU.

We lost to Arkansas, but Arkansas nearly beat Florida a week later in the swamp.

That same Arkansas team lost to Georgia.

Georgia lost to LSU on a miracle "penalty, kickoff return, broken tackle" touchdown in the last minute.

That same Georgia team was also just destroyed by a Tennessee team that we defeated thoroughly.

LSU has been consistently "good" this year.  They haven't really played bad, but they have never really played "very good" or "great" either.  After a week off, they could change that, but I wouldn't count on it.

My contention is that if LSU comes out and plays "good", but not "great" (or even "very good") like they have all year...Auburn only needs to play "very good", which we have done at times this year, to pull off the win.  We don't have to go in there and play perfect or out of our minds in order to beat this team.  MSU didn't play especially great and were one yard away from winning.  Georgia definitely didn't play great and had the lead until that last minute "Les Miles Miracle #63" happened.

If LSU continues down the same path they've been on, I just don't think it's far fetched to think we can go in there and win.

I've been saying it since the beginning of the season: LSU is waiting on somebody to expose them.

If not for horrible play calling, MSU would have beaten them. I think Todd is injured again and pulling out a win at night in Red Stick is going to be near impossible for this AU squad.

..like maybe 1%.

Arky is always a threat to us.  Georgia is a threat to us.

We're always a threat to LSU and Florida.  It just happens that way.  We stand a chance.  Not a good one, but a little more than 1%.

I'll go with 3%.

Actually I didn't say we had a 1% chance to win, I meant we had a 1% increase if it played at home.  You know because we play so well at home, and all.

I give us at least a 10% chance to win.

Seriously though you don't think out of 10 games we wouldn't win 1?  I do... maybe Saturday will be our one.

Just like I hope every Saturday a school in the cesspool known as tuscaloosa will be swallowed into a sinkhole.

LSU still has to get past the Hogs, who have beaten them twice in a row.  At the start of the year I thought Ole Miss would be better than they are.  Now, I don't think the Hogs lose again this year.

If Chris Todd 2008 shows up like he did against Kentucky, we're screwed.  If Chris Todd from the Tennessee game shows up, we have a 50/50 chance at beating LSU.m

Let's say there's a 50/50 chance CT-Tennessee shows up, that means overall we have a 25% chance of winning the game....at least that's the math I'm going with to keep me excited about the game.
