Title: New Good Album
Post by: War Eagle!!! on October 01, 2009, 02:19:42 PM
I realize that I am going to catch shit here based on the music I like...but, if you like accoustic guitar music with some banjo, good vocal harmony with a bit of a bluegrass/jam feel to it, The Avett Brothers have a new album called I and Love and You.

It's good. Real good.

I found this band when I was looking up who was going to be opening for Dave Matthews on a tour last year. I listened to a couple of their songs and liked the way they played. But this album is better than anything I heard last year. I would say they are kind of like Jack Johnson but with a very hippie blue grass feel to it. The dudes look stoned out of their gourd, but can play and sing. Usually it is just a guitar, banjo, stand up bass and cello, but I saw them this week on Letterman and they had a drummer.

Letterman (OK song, but not my favorite on the album)
The Avett Brothers "I and Love and You" Late Show with David Letterman 09-28-09 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1XMHGVOXZ8#)

Here are my 2 favorite songs on the album. This is them live with and some random recordings out of the audience, but you can a jest of what they sound lie. I like it.

I hate the music you like.

But I like the Avett Brothers.

I wouldn't describe them as hippie or jam or anything like that.

Alt-Country/bluegrass/folk, yes.

Emotionalism was a damn good album. Haven't had a chance to hear this one yet, but I will be downloading.

I think it is better than Emotionalism...which means you will probably hate it...

I am not a hippie, and I love women, so I will refrain from commenting on this post, except to say that I love the Jonas Brothers.

I liked this band after I saw them open for Dave.  Lots of energy...very funky sound that's seemingly innovative.  Real toe tappin' music.

I must have missed the 25 minute solo.

On the clip from Letterman, the lead singer sounded like he was straining to sing VERY LOUD and OVERENUNCIATE HIS WORDS...

But I liked it.  Will add to iTunes download list.

Very Seventies - kind of reminds me of Simon and Garfunkle a little bit.

I quit right there.  I just couldn't read any more.

How does this CD stack up to Ace Frehley's Anomaly?  That's what I'd be interested in knowing.

The lead singer is not all that talented - he really isn't singing.

But the music makes it worth it.  LOVE the tune.

Of all the clips I watched that you guys posted, the live ones were terrible, but the studio recordings were great.  Tells me I probably wouldn't like to see them in concert, but it would make some great driving music for a long road trip.

Driving music = ZZ Top.

Put on Eliminator and you'll be running 85 and glaring at cops in no time.

For once, write it down folks, I completely agree with Kaos' music tastes.

I like to sing when I drive, not just head bang.  I love ZZ Top, but it wears me down after a while.  I like simple harmonies to sing along to.  Short trips, then I hit some heavier stuff.  Long trips, I prefer mellow.

AGREE!  I have seen some live videos that were not very good at all, but the same song sounds good in studio!

Yeah, the clip of the song I posted, definitely sounds better in the studio version, but I mean, it was 20 people in one room of an RV. It does show the energy though.

I think they're live shows are why I like them, actually. Dave stands on his Persian rug on stage, and may do a knee swivel. These guy go nuts. I like that.

but, if you like accoustic guitar music with some banjo, good vocal harmony with a bit of a bluegrass/jam feel to it, kayak trips in the wilderness, pig-squealing butt sex with toothless rednecks, and houndstooth trucker hats

They remind me of Bella Fleck.  Rollin in the Hay is my favorite Bluegrass jam specialists.  As far as driving music like to mix it up between Yanni, John Tesh, and Barbara Streisand, and throw in a double cd of "Cats" the musical, OMG.

I like Crooked Still. I like looking at Aoife, though.

I finally listened to this album.

I like it. It's a lot like Emotionalism, I think, but maybe better.

Songs like Slight Figure Of Speech are way more uptempo than what you insinuated.
