Title: Texas Quarterbacks
Post by: jadennis on September 22, 2009, 12:39:41 PM
I was looking at the Rivals Power Rankings by position today and noticed on the quarterback list that NINE of the top 25 QBs are from Texas.  That also includes 3 of the top 5, and 4 of the top 9.

I like the idea that we have a Texas QB in our pocket waiting to take the reigns in the near future, and it reminded me how glad I am that we're over there (here) recruiting in Texas.

Nine of the top 25 QBs are from Texas, yet five of them play outside the state of Texas, with THREE of them leading SEC teams (and it's no coincidence that they are 3 of the top 4 SEC QBs).  The same is true at receiver, where seven of the top 25 are from Texas, yet SIX of them play outside of Texas, and as far away as Oregon State and Missouri.  Offensive line?  Six of the top 25, with four of them playing outside the state of Texas (including one way over at Miami).

Point is, there are a lot of all-conference caliber prospects that leave Texas every year to go play elsewhere.  Many to Oklahoma, LSU, etc.  There is an assumption that most stay in the Big 12.  But Missouri and Kansas and Colorado are not much different than Auburn in terms of distance.  I like that we're looking over there and think it will pay off in the future if the staff keeps relationships with their ties out there.

Other notes:
Ben Tate is in at #24 at running back.
Lee Zeimba is in at #24 on offensive line.
Antonio Coleman is up to #15 on the defensive line.
And our hero Gus Malzahn is now the #3 offensive coach.

Texas is a big state.  (Born there, lived there, still call it "home," so I understand that more than most southerners.) That's like recruiting out of GA, LA, AL, and FL combined. LOL

Besides, Friday nights in small town Texas is where it's at.  Here people live for Saturdays, Texas breeds that competition WAY earlier in life.

I'm lucky enough to have been to high school both here (Auburn High) and in Texas (Robert E. Lee in Tyler TX) and I can tell you that the high school football in Texas is way, way more serious than here.  Kids here grow up and dream of playing for AU or UA... kids there grow up dreaming of playing for xxxxxxxx High School.

Oh boy....another "let's talk about how great Texas is" thread. It's now a heaven annex for God, isn't it?  :bc:

Ummm....its a BIG state and they do more spread and 7 on 7 than any other state. This is the reason for the QB stats in sheer numbers. Outside of Texas, no one thinks as much of them (Texans in general) as THEY do. In fact they are perceived by most as big mouths who can only talk about how great they think their state is and how much bigger it is than yours. Yeah, ripping off the top 1/4th of the country below us and taking it as your own will accomplish that. ~sigh~

Anywho.....glad to have Tyrik on our side. I think he will be very good for us for a long time. :)

Yeah, thats it, You got me. I hear enough about this damned state in general and how its the new promised land. I sure dont wanna hear about it on an Auburn board......Pffffttttt to Texas.

That still doesn't discount that there is a lot of talent here...

Who said anything about how great the state is, or isn't?  It's just different at the younger levels than it is here.  Hence the talent gets developed earlier.

It's not better or worse, just different.  And bigger.

I'm talking about it on an Auburn board because we are recruiting in Texas.  I was born and raised in Atlanta, and have lived here for about 5 years (married an Aggie)....I'm not here to pump up Texas (the state), I'm talking football talent, and specifically how it relates to Auburn football.

Where exactly are you watching and reading that you're "hearing about this damned state....and how it's the new promised land"?

I don't really give a damn what Texans do or say about themselves....as long as we are recruiting there. I like it, I love it in fact, especially since it seemed like too much trouble to the previous staff.

I heard that Pediatricians in Texas give steroids to little children and call them "booster" shots. Is this true?
Here we just feed our kids cheese, milk and corn meal. Now that the government has made it permissible to keep the cow steroids in the milk, we will soon catch up with Texas in size of our HS athletes.

I'm sure it has happened somewhere, but no, it's not "common" in Texas.

But there are some big mother fuckers out there.

Some girl, some where, will say yes some time, darlin. Don't give up hope.

If not, I say we start a collection plate at the Red Stick Tailgate, and we'll get you some Yoxercise with your pants off.....those corndogs always need extra bail money.

They don't do the shots that way, but mothers use "the Clear" that Barry Bonds made famous, as diaper cream.

Now we're talkin.  Trip back on.

Okay, I'm married, so that was a joke.

However, I would think that having no interest in watching you Yoxercising with corndogs and no pants would simply mean I'm heterosexual.

It's not personal....it could have read "Corndogs, Yoxercising, and ANY GUY with no pants....pretty sure you just canceled my trip to Red Stick".
