Title: KISS to play Birmingham and Penscaola
Post by: Kaos on August 26, 2009, 05:57:19 PM
KISS will play Birmingham on October 24 and Pensacola on October 19 as part of their Alive 35 Tour.   I will be at both.

Regardless of what you may or may not think of their music, it's a show you really owe it to yourself to see.  Even if they ARE old now.

No, I haven't seen yet.  Doubt it will be anything like the Aerosmith combo.

They're starting the tour with Buckcherry but I don't know if that's going to be who stays for the entire thing.

I saw them in Birmingham last time they came (with Poison around 04 or 05) and it was badass indeed.

If I stumble upon a few for cheap, I'll likely return.

Gene ain't gonna pay nobody big. He don't like splitting the profits with nobody.

Who's drumming now?

And does Ace sit on a stool the whole time? Dude's got to be like 70.

I don't, but I rock out to that song every time I hear it.  "Catchy" would be the word, I believe.

Info.

Gene turned 60 yesterday.

Tommy Thayer plays lead guitar in Ace's absence

Peter was the oldest member of the band.

Peter's replacement Eric Singer played with the band when it recorded Revenge and Carnival of Souls. He was replaced by Peter for the reunion tour and Psycho Circus album.

Ace is releasing a solo album, Anomaly, in September.

That's the most worthless piece of "info" you have ever posted...

And that says something.........

I will be at the B'ham show for sure. I am glad it is on a Saturday so that I don't have to drive down in the middle of the week, but I would do it anyway. Finally, my wife gets to go to the concert of a band that I like. I am also going to the Stryper (yeah, I know some of you are lauging) concert in Nashville a week later on the 30th at the Wildhorse Saloon. Taking my son to that one.

Anybody heard when the B'ham tickets will go on pre-sale? I signed up for the BJCC's access club and got an e-mail about the announcement and to be looking out for pre-sale info. I also got an e-mail from Eventful on Monday, the same day the tour dates were announced, that had a pre-sale password for many of the KISS cities and it also said they would be sending out an e-mail for more cities. I have the free version of the KISS membership, soI am wondering if having the KISS premium membership ($50) really will make a difference in getting pre-sale tickets if Eventful and the BJCC are going to have pre-sales also.

Did Ace have a falling out? If he's releasing a solo album, then it seems he can still paly.

Thank you for the info.

He can still play.

http://www.acefrehley.com/ (http://www.acefrehley.com/)

He always had a contentious relationship with Gene and Paul.  Gene mostly.

From a Rolling Stone Interview:
I said, “OK, I’ll do a farewell tour.” It ended in Australia, and then I get a phone call when I come back, “Now we want to do something else.” Then Gene is on my answering machine, “Ace, we’re going to go out. If you don’t want to do it, we’re going to use another guitar player.” What is that, a threat? I didn’t even answer the phone (laughs). That was that.

Tommy did a great job on Psycho Circus and also on KISS Symphony

Peter seemed to just have creative differences with them, or that is what seems to be the case with everything I have heard and read. I guess by now, Eric Singer had been with KISS almost as long as Peter was with them. Eric Carr passed away in 1991 and Singer took over for him that year I believe.

I did some searching and there are some tickets for the B'ham show already available. Since there has not been a pre-sale yet, they must be some promotional tickets that somebody is selling, but there seems to be a lot of them if that is the case. I found several here:

Ace was still "with the band" when Psycho Circus was cut.  He toured in support of the album, as did Peter.

Ace played on some of the tracks on the album.  Bruce Kulick, who'd been booted out in favor of Ace for the Reunion Tour did some as did Thayer.

Criss was the drummer on only one of the Psycho Circus album cuts -- the one he also did lead vocals for -- despite being given liner credit.  Kevin Valentine, a guy I don't know at all, laid down the drum tracks for all the songs but one.

After that, they split again with the same basic difference separating them.  Ace and Peter brought their songs in to demo for the album, Gene and Paul said "oh, nice.  do these instead."  Ace and Peter thought they were "part of the band" while Gene and Paul viewed them as hired help with no more say than Thayer, Kulick, Carr, Singer or Vincent.  The band survived without Pete and Ace and would go on regardless.

Pete came back after quitting once, but started (predictably) squawking over money he wanted above the contract he signed.  Gene told him to screw off, basically.  He quit again.  Somewhere on this web page is his sour version of the events.  I've read it, but don't want to look for it again.  http://www.petercriss.net/homepage/

What Gene wants VERY badly right now is to have an album debut at or reach number one.  That's never happened before despite the numerous platinum albums the band's had.  That's the rationale behind the Wal Mart agreement and why you'll see them pimp the absolute hell out of that in the coming weeks.

Gene wants that validation.

Doesn't matter if the album drops to 453rd in week two.  He wants that number one to hang on his wall.

Wal Mart got it for AC/DC. He  believes they can do it for KISS.

I hope he's right.  Rock and Roll Hall of Fame can suck my ass.
