Maybe poorly worded, but basically correct. Died in combat/died in military service? Whatever, it's not "Thank a vet day". It detracts from the true meaning of the day to include all those that have served, because the day is about those that lost their lives...paid the ultimate price. Vets have their day too.

I think it is more for people who have served and are now laid to rest. No matter how they passed on.

Well I am a disable Vet-Just got a letter yesterday from VA-getting an extra $250.00 form the govt.
I would send you some-but since it is for taxes, I'd just get it later in my retirement and disability pay.
So I will keep it.

From my perspective, When you join the military you understand there will be sacrifices. Obviously, some more than others. Most military members I served with, in peace or hostile situations (Operation Just Cause-1989) were more concerned about their fellow soldiers than themselves. Whether you’re pulling guard duty or ducking rounds, it is all part of your duty. Most members accept that. I will tell you this; it is nice to know you are appreciated.

I can't believe somebody got on here and wanted to start a debate about the intent of this thread. How stupid!
I am a combat veteran that lost a few friends in combat. I try not to think about it all, but I do allow myself to think about them on Memorial Day. Trust me, for those that lost friends in combat, they could use a little pick me up on that day also, because it is a day that usually sucks in a way for the survivors. Many survivors may still be here because one of those lost in combat may have saved their lives. That can be hard to swallow for many living combat vets, especially on Memorial Day.
Those that served during peace time that are no longer with us should not be excluded from our thoughts either. Just because they did not have a conflict during their service does not mean the were any less willing to make that ultimate sacrifice either. They would have went without hesitation, just like those before them and after them that were ordered to go.
Yes, Veteran's day is about all veterans, living and deceased, however, I have no problem with anybody thanking a living combat veteran for their service on Memorial Day, especially for those many living veterans that have sacrificed limbs or even parts of their brain while defending our freedoms. Debating on when the appropriate day to thank them for their sacrifice is a little silly don't you think?
Personally, if somebody does thank me for my service on Memorial day, I tell them that I really appreciate it, but I do tell them there are others whose sacrifice turned out to be greater then mine, and they are the ones that deserve more thanks then I ever should receive.

As a former military member and member of an Honor Gaurd flight that's participated in quite a few military funerals, I can tell you that Memorial Day exists for ALL members of the military because, while the fallen are honored, the man standing next to you was always willing to take that fallen soldiers place if necessary. I'm sorry, but if you've raised your hand for your country, carry a weapon and commit to sacrifice yourself for your country, whether it happens or not, you deserve a simple thanks from time to time. Posting pics of fallen soldiers to snipe a little potshot at someone for disagreeing with your argument is pretty weak. Sorry.. Just my take on that little deal.
You all have this debate, I'm sure as shit comfortable with thanking anyone that I know has put themselves in the position to protect the things so many take for granted.

For many people in this country it is just a day off from work to drink beer and cook out. So if there are some that get it "wrong" and actually think about the military and thank a vet, then I won't split hairs. To argue about this is kinda like a vegetarian getting pissed that they are feeding starving people meat.
