Title: Tiger Prowl? Seriously?

Quote
The Tigers are on the prowl, literally.

The spring evaluation period began April 15 and runs through May 31. Though the period lasts six weeks, coaches are only allowed to be on the road for four.

AuburnSports.com

Luper and the Tigers will concentrate on the state of Alabama this week.
Auburn started this week. And they're making sure everyone knows they're coming.

In what is being termed the "Tiger Prowl", seven Tiger coaches, the most a program can have out at one time, will be cruising the state of Alabama this week in a decked-out Auburn limousine.

"We're prowling," said Auburn recruiting coordinator Curtis Luper. "All seven of us. We are all in a limo with Auburn flags on the windows and Auburn magnets on the doors.

"We all have on our orange. We all have on our Auburn shirts."

Auburn's coaches will begin their in-state tour today in Mobile. Schools that will be visited include Theodore, Blount, Vigor, Williamson and Davidson among others in the area.

Instead of the coaches breaking up and going their separate ways, to their own recruiting regions, Luper said they wanted to remain together.

"We want to concentrate all of our energy in one area at a time," said Luper.

After a tour through Mobile Monday, Auburn will move to the central and southeast regions of the state on Tuesday. Schools expected to be visited include Enterprise, Ariton, Greenville, Troy and then on to the Montgomery area.

AuburnSports.com

Auburn's coaches were riding in style Monday in Mobile.
Wednesday's visits will include stops in Phenix City, Auburn, Opelika, Smiths Station, Millbrook and Prattville among others.

Thursday, the group will end up in Birmingham and visit schools like Hoover, Vestavia, Pelham, Springville and other area schools.

Although seven coaches is the maximum a program can have out at one time, Auburn will interchange some coaches from day to day.

"We'll have seven together everyday," Luper said. "That seven will change depending on the region, but there will be all seven together."

During the evaluation period, coaches are allowed to visit the school to evaluate players, not recruit them. No meetings or talking to recruits is allowed. Nothing more than a "hello" between a college coach and recruit is permissible by NCAA guidelines. The visits are more for coaches to watch a recruit practice, talk to his coach and other school employees.

Auburn will do that, it'll just be a little different from the past. In Luper's words, they'll be "prowling".

Uh, not the least bit. This simply reeks of desperation, imo. Can you seriously tell me that if Alabama were doing that in Mobile, you guys wouldn't be shouting off of rooftops? You would be out of your mind. I wonder how many recruits will see the inside of that limo.....I mean, why else would you go out recruiting in a limousine? I wonder what other perks these kids are getting from the new staff.....

That limo looks like they're going to the Senior Prom.  We've got the money, we should at least pimp a Ferrari limo:

I agree with this.  But, I also agree that it looks desperate.  How sad is it that Auburn has to resort to desperation, because of the disaster that is Coach Chizik.

Yep.  There's more than one.  You can pretend like it isn't true, but there are lots of people who didn't suck the bitter turd lollipop and pretend it was grape flavored.

It's not dignified.  It's not class. It's just stupid.  It's ridiculous.

Auburn looks like a bunch of tools.  Whoever greenlighted it should be fired.

So, did Finebaum laugh at the Turd Limo Crusade?  Nope.  But, when Auburn does it, it's all of a sudden something to be made fun of.  Yeah, that makes sense.  I, personally, don't see anything at all wrong with it.  These coaches are going to be putting the "Full Court" effort towards every school that they go to and that will get the kid's attention.  "Party Like a Rockstar" and if you're going to do it....."Do It Big".  A Stretched Hummer/Lincoln Navigator/Comfortable Ferrari/Gremlin would've been cooler, though.

Once again same with GreasyWeasel, does he have to tard up every thread with an anti Chizik remark?  He has said his piece but still every post is the same, contributes nothing to the discussion....I will give him credit, at least he is more coherent that GW.

I didn't like the hire either, go back and check the threads if you like.  I didn't eat up the bitter turd lollipop, but to say that he hasn't done some decent things (staff hires and a pretty good finish to recruiting) isn't being exactly honest either.  I still reserve the right to see the product on the filed before I get my pitchfork ready.  I don't blame Chizik for taking the job like a lot do, it was his lottery ticket, if you want to blame someone, blame those in charge...JJ....etc....etc...etc..

RWS:  I don't get it either, if your team would have done it, I would have no issues with it.  Although I would still jump on your ass for it b/c it makes me feel better to give you guys hell.

Personally, I don't care for it.  Maybe if it just wasn't publicized and given a corny name.  Desperate?  Anything but desperate.  All indicators point to this staff kicking ass in recruiting already.  As was talked about last week, the #1 and #2 RBs in the nation loving Teh Planes was not accomplished through limos and gimmicky names.

I like the concept of putting the all out blitzkreig on the local recruiting grounds.  Just drop the gimmicks.

If they can land a top 5-10 recruiting class, I don't give a shit if they went out in orange and blue Yugos.

I will judge the staff's ( and Chizik's) coaching ability on the product they put on the field, I will judge the recruiting tactics by the type of players they bring in.

Otherwise I feel no need to criticize pre-maturely on either account.

So fuck you and the horse you rode in on.

I think this is a disgraceful idea.  It smacks of Dollar General impressiveness.  I'm flabbergasted that Auburn would be involved in something as tacky as this.  I don't give a flying shit who initiated it -- Dye, Jordan, the Pope or the Lord God Almighty.  It looks pimpish and ignorant.

The Crimson Caravan is when coaches or other athletic dept. personnel travel to speak at something such as a dinner, luncheon, etc. They are hosted at different locations by different chapters of the REC. It usually costs somewhere in the area of $100 to get in the door, and the proceeds go to academic and athletic scholarships. The Crimson Caravan is an event for athletic supporters. Its a far cry from recruiting in a limo.

You missed what I was saying.  I said "another one" as in "one that is going to tard up every thread with the I hate Chizik rethoric".  I have read every post he has made and they are all the same.  I understand and respect that position, but when that is all they post it gets a little old and it doesn't contribute to the thread one fucking bit.  GW and this guy can't go one thread and talk about the content w/o an I hate Chizik rant or remark.  I know for a fact that you didn't like the hire, but at least you can go a thread or two w/o saying shit about it, but when 99% of their post are the same it gets old dude.

You actually did say shit when you told me that "I couldn't pretend like it isn't true, but there are lots of people who didn't suck the bitter turd lollipop and pretend it was grape flavored", when I have never took that position in the first place.

I actually really like the name....LOL.

Like I stated in another thread, you Attack the Home State with everything you have.  Plus, the coaches will have even more time to get to know one another, get to know what they're looking for in a player, bounce ideas off of each other....stuff like that.  It'd be hard to do that when each Coach is riding around in a Honda Civic.  Also, what better way to say, "here at Auburn We're all about the Family and We want YOU to experience it", than to be stepping out of a Stretch Limo Together, once the Beautiful Women make their way over, to open the door.

I would have liked it more if it were a more stylish limo.  If this is going to be their schtick during the spring evaluation, invest some money and hire Pimp My Ride.

Also, it looks like this is getting more publicity than anticipated.  The coaches have always had a means of transportation during the spring.  Tubs' Co. used two SUVs.  It looks like our new staff went for the limo so they could all be together.  Someone slapped a few AU stickers/flags, and someone else coined the term "Tiger Prowl," possibly in jest, and now the Necks are using it to defame Auburn.  Who woulda thunk it.

Dude, its shady as hell. Seriously, rolling around in a limo going school to school on recruiting trips. You people would be having heart attacks if CNS were doing the same exact thing and if he did it first. The accusations and Prowler-esque stories of the violations happening would be bountiful. Its like I said before, how else would you be using a limousine as a recruiting tool if not to say "Hey, come to AU and you can get some of these perks too!". Personally, I don't know how riding around in a limo promotes a family feel. Thats a nice way to try and spin it, but to alot of other folks, it looks shady.

Well I have to say that this should really help Cheez nit shut down the state borders in recruiting, however there is just one problem with that. Shutting the state borders down in recruiting with Saban already inside is kind of like the dumb bitch in the horror movies locking the door with the killer already inside. There is never a very good ending.   :

Holy shit, they do have the wherewithal to produce a semi-relevant analogy.

Finebaum called this "the funniest picture he's ever seen."

Seriously? Is this all you've got?

I doubt the recruits find it as funny as you dipshits.

It's not the funniest thing "I've ever seen", but shit, even I laughed at it.  It's just cheesy.  However, I will STFU if they bring in some decent recruits.  It'll be a "win" if we are able to get some guys to take a look at Auburn who perhaps weren't looking before the Tiger Prowl rolled into town.

Well shit.
We do look like a buch of yokels now.
You want to know how to impress a recruit? Hire a fucking coach that has a clue. This is truly embarrassing that the program has to allow itself to drop to this level in an attempt to cover up its massive shortcomings.
You want to get a recruits attention?
Act like a coach that wants to sign him to play at a major SEC power.
Don't act as though your picking him up to go do a pole dancing number down at the VFW.

The coach sucks

But he has hired a great staff!

The coach is not a winner

But his whole staff rolls in a limo dressed up like Baskin Robbins employees!!

I'm sorry but I cannot believe some of you that have gotten on this thread to defend this circus wagon stunt.
You wanna sign top recruits??? Hire a fuckin coach.
When a winner walks in recruits pay attention. When the clown car rolls in the parking lot the recruits laugh.

I seriously don't get it. It's funny cause they're a coaching staff wearing matching Auburn shirts? This is a bad thing how? They're selling Auburn pride and unity. I don't see why so many are playing into this clear campaign to undermine Auburn's recruiting efforts orchestrated by Finebaum and the bammers. I get why the turds are trying to make this a negative thing. Whether they admit it or not, this staff being tenacious about recruiting makes them nervous. Auburn fans being apologetic about shit like this makes me as sick as everything relating to Chizik makes Kaos and Greasey.

What some people are missing is.....The Point.  Most people are just looking at the Limo and saying..Tacky, Stupid, Retarded...etc.  Auburn wanted to recruit the State, together.  BTW, a Stretch Limo is going to get people's attention, especially one that has Auburn Stickers and Flags all over it, no matter what model it is.  Not only is Auburn doing something inventive, it's actually extremely smart.  You don't just have One Coach, that's a decent to great recruiter, going into the schools, you have SEVEN Coaches, that are really good to great recruiters going into the school and making a Splash when they arrive.  When I was 18 yrs old, being recruited by a couple of Universities, if one of those Universities came to my HS in a Stretch with nearly their Entire Coaching Staff (read: Full Court Press), all wearing the same AU Orange button-up shirt (it shows up better when you look into the stands, while you're practicing), that would let me know that these coaches really want me and they're recruiting me harder than anyone else.  Shitbammer, I wouldn't be too sure about that...these coaches are coming up with new ideas every week, it seems.  So, a "Big Swingin' Dick Mobile", probably wouldn't be out of the question.  I mean, you already have the Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile, so....that's a start.  All you'd have to do is turn it into a Stretch Limo and paint the Weiner to look like a Dick....Wa La.

And I think thats what this is about. Hell, you can go to nearly any Kia lot and buy one Kia and then get a second one free. Kia gets alot of publicity by doing this, and people talk about it. Everybody knows about it. But that talk is usually about how Kia vehicles are pretty shitty and they have to use gimmicks.

The whole limo deal just screams gimmick. Personally, I feel that our coaches are capable of selling a recruit on our school, our football team, and the education that he will receive while playing at Alabama. I feel they are capable of showing a recruit how he fits into our system, and how he would be an asset to our team. I think its great that you guys put lipstick on this thing and tout it as showing recruits how family oriented the coaches are by 7 of them riding together for days, but you and I both know thats not what this is about. Its all about showing a 16 or 17 year old kid a flashy limo. Its a page from the Pat Dye playbook if I have ever seen one.

Again, for the reading impaired....It's not just about the Stretch, it's about 3/4 of the Coaching Staff to visit the school of one or two prospects.  The Limo idea is done to create the "Buzz".  From what I'm seeing, most of the prospects at the schools, that Auburn is going to, heard that the Coaches arrived in a Stretch Limo, from other students.  Hell, at one school, Admin. people, some teachers, Coaches and the Principle came out to greet the Coaches as they stepped out, so that they could all get their pictures taken....that's called "Buzz".  It's no different than what Coach Midget did two years ago while he was in the Mobile area to recruit a certain prospect (RV with police escort).  Auburn's just doing it with more style and they aren't using past All-Pro players to create the "Buzz".  Also, greaseybammer, if there are bammers that think that the "Tiger Prowl(er)" is a good thing for Auburn, then they would be correct.

Not to be counter-argumentative here, but I'm not sure you really know what the definition of a gimmick is.

In marketing language, a gimmick is a unique or quirky special feature that makes something "stand out" from its contemporaries. However, the special feature is typically thought to be of little relevance or use. Thus, a gimmick is a special feature for the sake of having a special feature.
That being said, I don't think this is overtly gimmicky, as the limousine served the purpose of getting seven coaches to show up together in the same vehicle, yet with class. How the hell a stretch limousine is being called a "clown car", I'm not too clear on. If seven coaches showed up together in a VW bug, I'd understand. That was the purpose of the limo. That was the purpose of the matching shirts. It was about unity, the Auburn family, the many functioning as one. I got it. The recruits got it. No one gives a fuck if the bammers or the crowd desperate for Chizik to fail get it. They never will.

I seriously don't get it. It's funny cause they're a coaching staff wearing matching Auburn shirts? This is a bad thing how?

It's funny because it's a piece of shit white limo that looks like my high school cousin got his friends together to ride up to teh Plains for a little football game, complete with stickers and flags.  I'd expect better from a Athletic Department that has the funds to put our coaches up in something a little more respectable.  Even a black one would've looked better...stretch Escalade, Hummer, etc. would've been BAD ASS.

The matching shirts, "The Point" as Prowler puts it, the "Buzz", etc., is all good, baby.  Auburn is getting noticed in ways that they haven't before, and this is a good thing, and I've already stated that I'd STFU if these trips serve their purpose.

But you have the orange and blue blinders on if you don't think it's a gimmick, because it is.

The limo is the unique and quirky feature.  It is of little relevance or use because the relationships the coaches establish and build on with the recruits until February is the foundation of getting who we want signed.  The limo is just the beginning of this, the tip of the iceberg.  The limo serves as a attention-grabber only, but our coaches know that.  But it's a fucking gimmick nonetheless...big deal.

The only thing I can do is sit back and see how effective this is, and that's what I'm going to do, but not without a chortle.

So is it over the top, or is it not over the top enough? Making a huge deal about the color of the limo? Seriously? Because if it were black it would make a huge difference? Maybe if it were a 2009 instead of a 2007? (I heard that complaint too) The recruits aren't laughing, so that's all that matters. Ask them if they give a shit if the limo was black or white.

“They really surprised me. I was shocked to see all of them in there. It makes you feel special, especially when they do it in front of the whole school. That’s a good idea right there. It’s sharp when they hop out of there with all their orange on. They really seem like they know what they’re doing. They’ve got some good coaches up there. I like a lot about them.”
- Williamson HS LB Barry James

“I like their swagger. I really liked when they came in the weight room and there was a whole gang of coaches all in Auburn gear. Everybody was just amazed at all the coaches that were there. It made me realize how serious they are about football recruiting for them to bring so many coaches to one school. It makes a real big impression. It makes me feel like they are really serious about getting their recruiting class together.”
- Davidson HS DT Pat McNeil

“Everything was great. I thought it was a good showing that all of the coaches came down. They were all in the limo, dressed in their Auburn shirts and everything. It went good. All of the students and teachers were real impressed with the coaches when they came in. It was a good thing the Auburn coaches did that. I think it grabbed some of the kids’ attention. Just the coaches coming down and showing that family atmosphere, showing that they care, caught the kids’ attention. I bet they had a warm reception wherever they went. It was great. A lot of kids were impressed.”
- Blount HS Head Coach Kelvin Sigler

I was saying that by definition, it is somewhat gimmicky. I was correcting AWK on his interpretation of the term. I don't, however, think that it was entirely a gimmick, because as I explained, it served its purpose.

Not over the top enough.  As soon as they decided to ride together in a limo, it was over the top to some extent.  Why pick the shittiest, worst looking kind of limo to do this in?  Poll the people, and they will agree...if we are deciding on doing this, it should've been done in the best way possible, by making the biggest impact.  When you're taking your latest piece of ass on yall's first date, do you go to Ruth's Chris...or the Western Sizzler?  And when you're home afterwards enjoying some foreplay, do you pull out the flavored condom from the gas station, or the Trojan Magnum?  A white limo has a moderate impact, at best.  Sure, the students in the schools are reacting, but we will never know how much bigger an impact they could've made by simply upgrading their ride.

I'm only making a big deal of the appearance of the ride, not the purpose.  And it's great to hear all the positive press that is already being spun around this.  But don't think that for every recruit ya'll quote on here that is impressed...that there's another recruit/coach that is laughing.  There's two sides to the story here, but it's my hope that the benefits outweigh the costs.

C'mon dude...you're not that naive.  What's said in negative light about this (by those affiliated with high school) would be negative towards recruiting and the future of the very players that the coaches want to succeed.  It would not behoove them or their livelihood for such comments to surface.  That's doesn't mean they are not being made, however.

I was about to post the same thing.

How many of you were EVER recruited by a major university while in high school? I got stuck with James Daniels. That told me I was low on their list. BUT if that group showed up at my high school to see me, DAMN. There is no way any other school could beat that. So if you have never been in that situation, then ignorantly laugh all you want. Recruits don't really give shit what you say, they only care how important they "feel" they are to the coaches.

No matter what this looks like to us, this is a home run to the recruits.

You're just tellin' it like it is, brother.  You're preachin' to the choir, well except for one.  lol, that one is a little slow, okay, a lot slow.  Maybe you should put it in Crayon, it still probably won't matter, all he'll see is that someone is posting about Pancakes!!!
